Inter is a workhorse of a typeface carefully crafted & designed for a wide range of applications, from detailed user interfaces to marketing & signage. The Inter typeface family features over 2000 glyphs covering 147 languages. Weights ranges from a delicate thin 100 all the way up to a heavy 900. Each glyph has three dedicated designs for weights 100, 400 and 900 to ensure excellent quality at any weight. Optical size ranges from "text" to "display" and there is a true italic variant.

Inter was developed in a private, internal git repositorystarting in November 2016, prior to being published on August 22, 2017.Between November 2016 and August 2017, there were2,990,150 line edits made across 247 versions.

next/font includes built-in automatic self-hosting for any font file. This means you can optimally load web fonts with zero layout shift, thanks to the underlying CSS size-adjust property used.

In the example below, we use the font Inter from next/font/google (you can use any font from Google or Local Fonts). Load your font with the variable option to define your CSS variable name and assign it to inter. Then, use inter.variable to add the CSS variable to your HTML document.

Also, another question related to this. What is the reason that on Google fonts website there could be more styles available (like 300,400,500,600 etc) whereas in our Theme X it often show less than that. Is that something we can adapt? (often there is no italic for instance as a choice).

Thank you for your patience. I checked with the team and found that this can happen if the fonts don't have the embedding rights. So if a font does not have the embedding rights, and the file is exported to PDF, Acrobat may not display them properly. Could you please try this option: Acrobat > Acrobat tab>preferences> Page Display>select use local fonts and check if it displays it correctly.

If this does not fix the issue, then please run the Preflight tool in Acrobat which is under 'Optimize Tool'> run the Embed missing fonts fix-up. Acrobat has the capability to embed missing fonts in a PDF.

Over the last years, several studies have suggested a possible link between dyslexia and deficits in low-level visual processing (e.g., excessive crowding). At the same time, specially designed "dyslexia-friendly" fonts appeared on the market. This class of fonts presents two main features: the particular graphic characteristics of the letterform designed to avoid confusion between similarly shaped letters, and wider inter-letter and inter-word spacing to limit crowding. The literature testing the efficacy of "dyslexia-friendly" fonts in improving reading accuracy and increasing reading speed is controversial. We evaluated the impact of letterform (with vs. without dyslexia-friendly graphic features), inter-letter spacing (standard vs. increased), and inter-word spacing (standard vs. increased) on reading accuracy and speed. Two groups of 64 children each, with and without dyslexia, read aloud 8 equivalent texts. The data collected failed to show any effect from the letterform. As regards spacing, the data showed that reading speed is impaired by an increase in inter-letter spacing not combined with an adequate increase in inter-word spacing.

Inter is perfect for blogs, newsletters, and user interfaces. Its design features optimize the reading experience, and its many weights can support complex information hierarchy to ensure good user experiences.

I'm very picky about my fonts and I've began to notice a difference in the Inter font representation on our site vs other sites. I now tested the same text, 16px, weight 400 on our site and in Google font preview. Please see the screenshots - the font is not exactly the same. It looks a bit wider and thinner. What could be the reason?

You can import any font style from any Expo Google Fonts package from it. It will load the fontsover the network at runtime instead of adding the asset as a file to your project, so it may take longerfor your app to get to interactivity at startup, but it is extremely convenientfor playing around with any style that you want.

As you know, we changed our main Blender font to Inter, a popular open-source font designed specifically for user interfaces. Unfortunately it is missing three characters needed for one of our translations.

As a typical coder, I've always found it challenging to design my sites in a professional manner. However, I feel like I've seen some recent improvement in this department, and I give much of the credit for this to my recent discovery of the Inter family of web fonts. Created by Rasmus Andersson, a designer at Figma, these fonts were made with the express intention of making text easier to read on computer screens.

At the other end of the weight range scale, the lightweight fonts can also be very useful. Small text used for things like footnotes and labels can look a whole lot better when rendered in one of the Thin or Extra Light fonts

Using a single font family can lead to more harmonious designs. Mixing different fonts can be tricky for us non-designers, but with Inter fonts we have fewer reasons to do this. Using a single font family increases the likelihood that all the elements on the page are going to look good together, and this makes our sites more attractive, readable and easier to understand.

Let's face it, commercial fonts can be quite expensive. They are certainly worth the cost to the shops and companies that are making a profit from their work. But for us developers, and especially those who are just getting started as coders, it's probably impossible to justify that kind of investment.

One of the great things about Inter fonts is that they are open source and completely free to use for just about any purpose. The SIL Open Font License 1.1 contains all the details. With Inter fonts, you get many of the benefits of a commercial font family without the usual associated cost.

Be precise about the styles you are using. The API delivers the requested stylesin the most compact set of fonts. Requesting unused styles may cause your usersto download more font data than they need, causing more latency. If you use only3 specific weights, specify them in your request as individual styles.
