I last used Inreach sync back in October. No issues then. Today I tried several times to connect via Inreach sync, but the message states to plugin device unable to connect to device. I am able to update via Garmin Express and have received the latest software.

inReach sync is not the primary sync channel for the 66i, although I think it should work (for data only - as you know, updates are delivered via Express or OTA). If you can't sync via the sync program, you can do so via the Explore app on your phone (iOS or Android). The app is free. You can install it from your app store.

For the wired sync, be SURE that Garmin Express is not running at the same time. It has a nasty habit of changing your settings on every update so that it always runs in the background. Which means it will try to connect to any Garmin device you plug in. This likely interferes with sync.

The GPSMAP 66i isn't compatible with inReach Sync Desktop App. Instead, all inReach syncing goes through the Garmin Explore App. This article has steps: Syncing a GPSMAP 66i/86i/86sci or Montana 700i/750i with the Garmin Explore Website and App

For the 66i, f/w is also updated via Express. Data sync (for the Explore universe) is possible only via the Explore app. The desktop sync program does not support the 66i. And if we want to confuse things some more, Garmin Connect Mobile will sync the "Connect" universe but not the Explore universe.

2. InReach Sync Desktop App (this syncs the device with your account). It is always best to sync your device before a trip, after changing the plan or activating the unit, or making changes to your account.

The eTrex 32x uses a different USB plug type (mini-USB) than the inReach Mini. Can't find the micro USB cable that came with the inReach Mini in my drawer full of cables. But ... clue here ... I used to be able to synch the inReach Mini under Windows 10. Now it only charges via any of the multiple micro USB cables that I do have on hand.

Didn't know that micro USB connectors could be 'Charge only' or 'Charge AND data synch'. That's not terribly helpful. But good to know. Agree that there ought be a law against power-only cables that are not MARKED as such.

Syncing data, contacts, (such as Check-In Messages (formerly known as Preset Messages), Contacts, etc.) or Quick Text Messages, maps,1 and account changes is done using the inReach Sync desktop app. This can be performed by the administrator or sub-users who have been provided a log in email address and password for the Garmin Explore website.

If you are the administrator of the account, the same email and password used to log into the Garmin Explore website can be used to sync an administrator-assigned device or any user-assigned device on the account.

This issue doesn't inspire confidence as I've read of people having their device not work in the field due to sync issues. So beware: Garmin inReach might leave you stranded until you can get back to a PC. For me, I can not sync on the PC due to this issue. Therefore it leaves a big question in my mind if my device will stop working when I need it most.

Your Garmin inReach device may not connect to the other devices for several reasons. However, there are always some troubleshooting steps you can follow. If your garmin inreach not connecting to the Explorer or the SE device or the computer, this blog will walk you through some helpful tips to resolve the issues in no time.

Another step that can help you reconnect your inreach to the devices, is soft resetting. Once you soft reset the Garmin inReach, it resets the device activity and clears the device memory. Here are some steps you can follow:

How to use: Live Tracks must be added for each location source individually to each saved map. Please note that starting a live track for ADS-B aircraft requires a pro, desktop or team account; live tracks for all other objects are available to all users.

Position updates at the gateway will now show up on your map. APRS objects on your map will also appear in Desktop or mobile offline versions of CalTopo that are actively syncing to the online server.

inReach Sync is an application that syncs your Explore account with the inReach SE or inReach Explorer device to ensure your information is up to date on the device. When you sync your devices with the Explore site, the information you entered online — like Contacts, QuickText or Preset Messages, and Facebook, Twitter, or MapShare information — will be copied to your devices.

You can only message contacts from the device itself. You enter your contacts on your Garmin Explore dashboard page, and you can also sync them directly from your phone contacts (easier). When you sync your inReach Mini with your phone, the contacts are updated.

You can easily drop waypoints on your phone from the main menu: OK > Mark Waypoint > Done. Waypoints that you specify on the Earthmate app or inReach (online) dashboard will also sync with the device.

Also note that the inReach Mini does not sync with Garmin Connect or Garmin Basecamp, and any courses you plan there will not work on the Mini unless you export and import them into the inReach dashboard.

Garmin added this neat feature to the inReach Mini, but it's more of a convenience than a necessity. If you have a device that can sync with an ANT+ sensor, you can use it as a remote control for the inReach Mini.

I have no use or desire for watch connectivity, do want the greater standalone capability of satellite messaging from the larger device but they need to improving the dated delorme navigation software and capability and properly integrate with garmin desktop/web software.

Hi, I am looking at the inreach mini to replace cumbersome smart phone with spotty service during my bike rides and road trips. I am trying to understand the role SOS button vs dialing 911 on the phone in places that are not remote.

For example, if I observe a felony crime, say armed robbery OR I am involved in a major car accident (that I can walk away from) would a be appropriate to use SOS button to contact police??? Or would sending a text to my emergency contact and having them dial 911 with my location would be a more appropriate way.

I see now. In open water the drybag is usually a boey you pull at the end of a rope. That makes you visible to boats and give you something to hold onto if you need it. Those have a drybag compartment and an inflatable compartment. So you have a safe place to carry the inreach. Now if it gets a bit wet when you pull it out and operate it to send a signal I would think it is waterproof enough for that, much like it should be able to sustain rain exposure. I would try to not submerge it. But it will get wet one way or another for sure. I would think IPX7 is enough if used that way but I suppose risk of damaging it is not zero.

@M. Lamerse...Oh boy. Here we go... Since you auto-define yourself on your Web Profile as " Works as a photographer and part-time media advisor" I went and visit it. What you call "journalism": is only a bunch of snapshots: No message, which is the MAIN purpose of journalism. I never wrote BETTER on my text, Mr. Journalist. Simply I exposed a personal option when it comes to buy an image editor, thus my PERSONAL experience with those programs for desktop work,BEFORE the iPhone came to town, was, as I mentioned: expensive & unreliable.

Then comes your parting thought: "And who cares if you subscribe or not." A blow under the belt. I wasn't asking for your "part-time-media-advisor" Please don't go full-time. ff782bc1db
