With Notes on iCloud.com, you can capture a quick thought or save something important for later. You can also view and edit notes you created in the Notes app on any device with Notes turned on in iCloud settings.

I use Notes on my iPhone and Mac religiously and every since last week, they no longer sync and act as separate programs...I logged into icloud.com and notes from BOTH devices show up (ex: test- mac and test-iphone) but neither notes are reflected on the other device. Also, when I edit the "Mac" test, the changes show up on my Mac. But something is not pulling the notes from iCloud into my iPhone or Mac. Whenever I turn off sync or iCloud and then turn it back on, I am left with 50 notes from iCloud, cutting off around a week and a half ago...and not the new notes.

Not sure what iCloud password it was referring to as I tried to enter my Apple password but it did not work. I did the same thing as per waht CarwynR had done, under Setting --> Apple ID --> iCloud, I turned on the "Note" under Apps using iCloud. Upon doing so, those notes which I had shifted to iCloud folder were all GONE.

I tried going to the same setting and turn off the "Note" under Apps using iCloud but still do not see my notes back to my note folder and this time round, the iCloud main folder under Note is totally missing.

The only way to restore those notes from the "On My iPhone" account would be by restoring from a backup on your computer. To find one, check out this page: Locate backups of your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

So recently (maybe 3 weeks?) any new notes or changes on previous notes made on my computer won't sync to my iPhone (Mac mini 12.0.1, iPhone 13 Pro 15.3.1). I called support to no real avail and I just figured something 5 min ago: if I modify a note or make a new one on the computer, the way for it to sync into iPhone is to close Notes App and open it again. It's a dread!!

Nothing worked, but I noticed the only device affected is the iPhone. Old devices with 12.5.5 updated in seconds any changes on the notes made in Mac Notes and iCloud Notes. The iPhone is still unchanged; I'm thinking is something about the system version.

If you decide to turn off Notes in iCloud in Settings->Account(top of settings)->iCloud->Notes, then you will be asked if you are sure. If you answer yes, all notes saved in iCloud will be deleted from your device, but will remain untouched in iCloud.

I recently noticed within the last month that ALL of my notes from early 2013 back to 2008 are gone on my MacBook Pro (with OS 10.10.1). Then I checked iCloud via browser access and it showed the same. However, all of my original notes are still intact on my iPhone/iPad. The few notes that are shared between my Mac/iCloud and iPhone/iPad synch well with changes back and forth. The missing notes from my Mac/iCloud that are still on the iPhone/iPad do not synch in testing. Logging in/out of iCloud, with a restart of my Mac in between, makes no difference.

I have done all that you suggested very carefully and in a controlled testing environment. Still no change with the older notes that are missing on iCloud and my Mac, but rock solid synching with the notes that all devices share. This issue just isn't making any sense yet.

Once again, is there a way to extract the Notes main file from my iPhone/iPad and install it onto my Mac? Then I could resynch with iCloud to get all devices up to date. I really would like to keep the date of when all notes were last updated unchanged and that is the reason I keep asking. I can certainly create each individual note one by one from text file backups (via a third-party application) if there is no other option.

The problem as I see it is that if notes aren't syncing they are likely to be in another account and whatever method is used to move them to the iCloud account will likely change the modification date, which is the date used to organise notes.

so, i've been getting "no icloud storage" type popups every time i use the notes app, i ignore them because i have no need to pay for cloud storage on a 256gb phone, ASSUMING that notes are then stored locally, which seems like the reasonable assumption to me, but then i logged in and out of my account and all of my notes since 2017 are just gone. they're not in icloud so does that mean they were just deleted??? what the ****??? i really needed them

And they would be stored locally if you stored your notes in the On my iPhone folder of the Notes app. If you were using I loud Notes, then the Notes are being synced with iCloud so that whatever your do on one device is reflected on all devices using iCloud Notes.

If you were syncing Notes as described by Alexander_TechBuddy, (apps using iCloud)then you can try looking in the recently Deleted Folder under the iCloud notes. You can try turning the switch on again in the Apps using iCloud settings and see if the Notes download from the cloud again.

Fixed it by turning off Notes on my main iCloud account, making sure the Notes app was terminated, waiting a but, re-enabled iCloud notes, also disabled Push initially. When I reopened Notes, iCloud folders appeared and notes started syncing to iPad.

Thanks for the reply. My biggest concern is keeping my notes in the Notes app that's currently synced to the iCloud. I removed Notes from the iCloud on my Macbook and all of my Notes disappeared. I want to keep the Notes that's on my phone under a different account so I can remove Notes from iCloud but when I select all of the Notes saved in the iCloud on my phone, I don't have the option to move them to another Note folder of a different account, I'm only given the option to move Notes to other folders in my iCloud account.

I am having the same issue although I am not a developer I am using version 10.11 Beta (15A225f) Notes Version 4.0 (512). I can confirm that I was definitely able to create notes on my macbook before the beta installation. Another strange occurence happened with Notes when I first installed the beta OS, some of my notes duplicated and triplicated. I have already deleted 28 "copies" but have more to delete when I am done comparing to make sure I don't lose any data. I purchased storage and I currently have 142 GB available so I doubt that is an issue. Another thing to point out, I am unable to create a new note using iCloud and On My Mac acccounts.

First new note button greyed out > then I went to System preferences > iCloud > deselected and reselected note > coming back to notes, all notes disappeared ( stress levels high ! ) > all buttons are greyed out, tagging is not working, hashtag is not working. So basically if someone is storing important information in notes, you may loose it all ?I do see it on iCloud, though I am worried that somehow while syncing this may also get wiped outThere is no option to back up notes and restore themApple Engineers - please continue to work diligently to look at these forums and solve our issues.

The problem is in Quick notes. As you can try, if your last note is empty, the New note button is greyed and you cannot press it (even by cmd+N or menu).

Fill the new note and you can create another one.Monterey introduced Quick notes. When the Quick note is empty, it behaves same and you cannot create New note.

new note on my MacBook has been greyed out for many years. Every 6 months or so I look for a solution. I have asked many apple experts.I have a tone of important notes I created on my iPhone which works. I can't delete these. These are visible in the MacBook, but I can't create new ones on the MacBook. Its a bug which has been around for years. Both devices have notes set to sync in iCloud preferences.Today I tried switching off notes sync on iPhone, but it said it would deleted all my notes so I canceled. This is crazy. However, interestingly, if I switch off notes sync on the Mac, it doesn't say this, but it did it anyway without warning.then it loaded them again, now I can create new notes, for the first Time on my Mac.

I'm trying to figure out how to get Notes off my Mac and into an open source, Linux (probably Markdown) based solution.

If anyone else stumbles across this page looking for a solution you can now download all your notes, and all their attachments, directly from:

Simply open the notes and files app side by side on the iPad and select all to be copied (2 fingers) with dragndrop into the desired directory - voila .rtfd saved. You can use the share button to export the new rich text files.

In 2022, Apple kicked in several enhancements with iOS 16 and iPadOS 16, such as the ability to add a quick note on your iPhone and protect a note with a passcode or biometric method. In 2023, the Notes app gained a few more features with the jump iOS 17 and iPadOS 17, including an option to mark up scanned documents and a way to add links in notes.

When in List view, your notes appear by default in descending order with a title and the first few words visible. However, you can change the view to see notes as thumbnail images. To do this, tap the ellipsis icon in the Notes app and select View as Gallery from the menu.

Open a specific folder or subfolder, and the ellipsis icon offers a host of other commands and options, including the ability to share the folder, sort its notes, add a new folder, move the folder, rename the folder, and convert it to a Smart Folder. 006ab0faaa
