Hi,

I know this is an old thread but I managed to unbrick a K4505 vodafone mega modem with a missing imei, which seems to be a regular problem for those attempting the e186e upgrade flash. Probably not too many people using these now I guess but if you have a dead one lying around give this a go. I really had no idea what I was doing, I just pieced together lots of posts I found. So this was an ebay bought second hand modem, still locked. Unlocked it with DC unlocker. That worked ok, but was unable for whatever reason to get it to accept any sort of dashboard upgrade, just gave error, and every time I tried a firmware upgrade it was asking for codes, which may indicate it was previously messed with. Was getting frustrated as wanted to use my non voda sim but couldnt detect it with mobile partner, or get voda dash to accept my sim. I gave in and used a code gen to gen flash code, but went for the E186E upgrade instead of doing just the standard firmware upgrade, not sure why, tired i guess. DO NOT DO THIS, its just not worth it. Like so many others it failed and wiped everything including s/n and imei. This is what I did: Download latest vodafone k4505 modem control software from site, Called Vodafone Mobile Broadband. Put K4505 in usb port, will only show as a usb drive, go to device manager, uninstall it, remove modem and restart pc. Replace modem in usb port, then when drivers are requested navigate to the folder holding the voda broadband program and find the drivers folder. Pc will then install them, which opens all the com ports up and allows access to the k4505 as a modem. Next install the E168E flash upgrade from k4505 site on dc files, which turns the stick back into a modem. Next down load QPST and follow these instructions _id=79. Is for a phone but basic idea is the same. I went to line 550, rewrote my original imei just as demonstarted, including putting the number 8 at the start, and all good. Then, and this I think might have been important, flash modem back to a k4505 with k4505 firmware update off dc files site, it will show the emei and ask for flash code, which if work ok I think cements the imei, or maybe not, but cant hurt. then install the dashboard upgrade from same site, which installs mobile partner. so now modem lives, has imei, connects to 3g, sends sms, the works. Hope this helps someone.

1. Install Vodafone software. For 64bit see below.

2. Flash Modem with software from here. -unlocker.com/forum/showpost.php?p=9460&postcount=27

3. Use your IMEI to get an unlock code from here: -mdm-unlocking-codes-request-only-here-781410/

4. Uninstall Vodafone software.

5. Install the software flashed to your modem from Step2.

6. When you run the software it should prompt for the unlock code you got from step 3.

6. Create your profile and you're done. ff782bc1db
