So, I set up an NFC tag in my office to perform a series of tasks when I arrive and leave from work each day; one of which is sending a message to my SO to let them know when I arrive and when I'm leaving. However, I can't seem to get Tasker to work with Hangouts the way I want; at least from what I can figure out.

I don't want Tasker to send an SMS, I want it to open Hangouts, create the message, such as, "Made it to the office." and "Heading home" (to toggle in Trigger), and then send it in Hangouts. I have Trigger being able to go into Hangouts and create the message, but it won't send it automatically, just create it.

I realize this has been covered to some extent on this sub already, but I wanted to see if there are any recent fixes for this. I finally decided to switch over to Messages from Hangouts on my Pixel 3, and followed the directions for syncing all my past messages, call history, etc. I've had a "Your messages are syncing" popup notification on my phone and on the web interface for 3 full days now, and it's draining my battery insanely fast. It goes 100% -> dead ~3 times per day right now.

The little counter on the web interface that says how many messages have been backed up hasn't changed since ~1 hour after it started syncing, so I'm not even sure what it's doing. I do know that any messages I've sent/received from my phone are the only noticeable things that are not backed up on the web interface. I've tried stopping and restarting the sync, signing out of my Fi account and logging in again, and restarting the phone & computer.

As you can see in the official documentation, Chat API can only be used to manage spaces (that is, chat rooms and direct messages), as well as its members and messages. Video meetings are not part of Hangouts Chat but of Hangouts Meet, and there is no open Hangouts Meet API.

While fiddling with the Gmail API, I noticed that if I don't use any filters, the Users.messages: list method also returns messages sent and received through Google Hangout or Gmail Chat. Which is very nice.

The json object for a Hangout message is structured like an email (with payload, headers etc), but the only header provided is the sender. There's no information about the time the message is sent. I've looked through all other Gmail API methods (threads, history...) but none of them provides datetime information for chat messages.

While hangouts and chats are not what the Gmail API is intended for, Gmail API now does expose an "internalDate" timestamp field on all Message objects (including chats and hangouts), so you can likely get what you want from there: -notes#2015-06-18

This year we launched Duo support for iPad, Android Tablet, Chromebook, and Smart Displays, giving you more flexibility to make calls from your favorite devices. We also launched the ability to leave a video message, and will continue to bring more quality improvements based on machine learning that make video calls with Duo simple and reliable.

First, I set up a new email that I use for all my automated notifications. I logged into that email, in the gmail web UI, and started a hangouts chat with anyone I wanted to be able to send messages to. Those people need to accept invitations. Send a few messages back and forth, to make sure everything is connected.

Where MyAutomationEmail is the new email address I just set up to send the messages, and steve_jid and melanie_jis are the JIDs of the recipients. This was the biggest issue I had setting this all up. I was using email addresses for recipients, and it worked for some, but not others. I still have no idea why it sometimes worked, but the JIDs worked every time.

When there is a new incoming message in a Google Hangout multi-person chat that I have joined, neither the Windows taskbar icon for the Hangout chat window nor the Hangouts icon in the Windows notification area / "system tray" flash or otherwise indicate that there has been a new message.

I'm not sure at this point why no notification occurs on incoming messages. Is the OS preventing it? Is there some Hangouts setting that I have inadvertently disabled? Does Hangouts simply not have this functionality?

Beyond this as far as I have been able to determine this is a limitation of the browser based version of hangouts (GMail, Google+, etc.). Each time I tested this implementation the only time I got any noticeable notification was if I already had a chat started and in some way active. New chats and messages sent when Window was not the active window we not present.

Until Google finds a better method for the browser based versions of hangouts you may wish to install the apps version by going to the Hangouts homepage and selecting the Computers option for installation.

I wasn't able to do any extensive testing, but the issue of notifications not showing seemed to be resolved in the short term (I tested with a co-worker by having him send me messages with the hangouts window both closed, open, and minimized).

Hangouts is a free social and communication service that allows you to send emojis, photos and make group video calls. You can host a free video call with up to ten contacts, chat in groups and send messages to people even if they're offline. Hangouts can be accessed across all of your devices as an app, or on your computer through the Chrome extension.

Google Hangouts is a simple option for keeping up with people synced to your account. When you open a new message, it displays an updated list of everyone online and available for a chat or call. If you find some free time, there's also the Google Duo icon that allows live feeds from the user's camera - perfect for sharing moments with friends near and far at any given moment.

This app is designed to sync all your chats across devices, so if you use it on both a PC and Android device, then Hangouts will automatically update messages without any hassle. In addition, you don't have to worry about manually syncing devices as this app does most of the work in the background using little resources.

If you want to respond later, you can snooze your notifications. This will help prevent the distractions of phone calls and messages while focusing on what's important now. Additionally, with Google Voice, you can make phone calls using a US number and your own voice. You may also send text messages or check your voicemail to keep up with friends and family.

While there are likely many who did not wait to move to a different messaging app, Google has finally communicated how to migrate to its Messages app and bring your Hangouts messages with you.

For example, if I send a message via Pidgin, it appears in Hangouts app on Android almost instantly. If the PC if off and I send a message from Android phone, then turn on the PC and Pidgin, I do not see such messages.

EDIT: There is at least one XMPP extension for centralized history[0] and client synching, as well as "Carbon copy"ing messages sent from one client to other open clients, but Google, Facebook, and others who built chat services on XMPP decided it was more in their interest to silo off than to work together and allow interoperability. They could have published their extension as a spec.

There is a XMPP standard (XEP-0136) for storing server-side message history. However, it is not clear that this is the mechanism that Google is using for their history function. See eg, this question (from 2012) and this one (from 2011), or at least as of those questions it doesn't appear supported.

"Unfortunately, I accidentally deleted all the hangouts chats (like two years of conversations) with my girlfriend today morning. Is it possible to recover deleted Hangouts messages/chat history? I'm desperately in need of those messages! Anyone! please help!!!!!!!"

If you lost or deleted other files (except for Hangouts messages or data) like pictures, videos, documents, text messages, etc, you can download a professional Android data recovery tool from EaseUS to retrieve them back. You can first download the trial version and try to scan for the files on your Android phone or memory card. And purchase a license code for real data recovery after making sure you have found all your wanted conversations.

This guide has discussed two possible ways to recover deleted Hangouts chat history on your Android. We hope you can find your wanted Hangouts messages through reading our guide. Apart from Hangouts, there are many other files on your Android device. If some of them get deleted by accident, we suggest you have this Android data recovery tool - EaseUS MobiSaver installed on your computer. In that way, you can recover any deleted data from your Android without worry.

While most chatbots respond to user requests in a synchronous way, there are scenarios when bots don't perform actions based on an explicit user request, such as for alerts or notifications. In today's DevByte video, I'm going to show you how to send messages asynchronously to rooms or direct messages (DMs) in Hangouts Chat, the team collaboration and communication tool in G Suite.

What comes to mind when you think of a bot in a chat room? Perhaps a user wants the last quarter's European sales numbers, or maybe, they want to look up local weather or the next movie showtime. Assuming there's a bot for whatever the request is, a user will either send a direct message (DM) to that bot or @mention the bot from within a chat room. The bot then fields the request (sent to it by the Hangouts Chat service), performs any necessary magic, and responds back to the user in that "space," the generic nomenclature for a room or DM.

From the video, you can see that alerts and notifications are "out-of-band" messages, meaning they can come in at any time. The Hangouts Chat bot framework provides several ways to send asynchronous messages to a room or DM, generically referred to as a "space." The first is the HTTP-based REST API. The other way is using what are known as "incoming webhooks." ff782bc1db
