Gordon enters the Lambda complex, and three scientists (one wounded) and a guard are there as well. Soon, the Gargantua heard before attacks and kills all four people in the room, and traps Gordon, who cannot defeat it without explosives, and cannot escape. As the Gargantua closes in on Gordon, the G-Man is seen watching from a window, straightening his tie, and walking away. The screen then fades to black, accompanied by the caption: Current evaluation: uplink completed. Require further data.

The player is given a task to reach the transmitter dome and reconfigure the transmitter manually. There is a high amount of radiation in the dome area, and only the player can survive it because of his protective suit. The player is trapped in a large room with a Gargantua at the end of the demo, and can not escape. The G-Man can be seen watching from a window and walking away. The screen fades to black as the Gargantua comes closer. A message appears on the screen: "Current evaluation: uplink completed. Require further data."

just got the game now that it's free and I'm not sure i understand what half life:uplink is, i know that it has extra levels and storylines but does it have the whole game + those added things or is it just an expansion that you play after half life

last time i looked into this i was under the impression that 320x240 was removed in 1.1.0.1, but can't find a source for that info now unfortunately. but look for the oldest possible CD retail version. as for newer patches, half-life's version history was really all over the place even pre-steam, see the infamous crowbar bug...

i'm very certain i had uplink running in 320x240 at one point though, either there are multiple versions of that demo around or it's a driver issue on your side. i'm pretty sure i used a matrox millennium when i did that.

low-res software rendering support was very commonplace in shooters of the day, even in win95, you may check if something like unreal/hexen2/outlaws shows those modes. half-life was really a unique case in terms of patching those modes out, which made that p133 minimum requirement on the box even more bizarre than it already was.

Your goal in the half-hour or so of Uplink is to align a satellite for a scientist to send a warning message out about what is happening in Black Mesa. As you fight your way to the satellite tower you battle through the ever versatile headcrabs and zombies along with those dastardly marines. You also get to blow up some of those marines using their own explosives, quite an amusing moment.

"Uplink" starts with protagonist Gordon Freeman trying to make his way to the surface of the Black Mesa Research Facility to establish a satellite uplink to gain outside help after a catastrophic experiment. The player then navigates a series of levels (some of which are similar or reworked versions of segments in the main game) while facing off against both alien creatures and military personnel.
