Walk across the bridge at your own pace, taking in the panoramic views, have a seat and relax before walking back when you're ready. Be sure to look down into the valley below where occasionally you can see a black bear in its natural environment.

Zhangjiajie Glass footpath is a skywalk bridge in Zhangjiajie, Hunan, above the Wulingyuan area. The bridge, built as an attraction for tourists, is glass-bottomed and is transparent. When it opened it was the longest and tallest glass bottomed bridge in the world. The bridge, opened to the public on August 20, 2016, measures 430 metres (1,410 ft) in total length and 6 metres (20 ft) in width, and is suspended about 300 metres (980 ft) above the ground.[1] The bridge spans the canyon between two mountain cliffs in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park in the northwest of Hunan province. It is designed to carry up to 800 visitors at a time. The bridge was designed by Israeli architect Haim Dotan.[2]

To build the bridge, engineers erected four support pillars on the edges of the walls of the canyon. The bridge is made of a metal frame with more than 120 glass panels. Each of these panels is three-layered and is a 5.1-centimetre-thick (2 in) slab of tempered glass. There are three long swings attached to the underside of the bridge. There is also a provision for making a 285-metre (935 ft) bungee jump, considered to be highest bungee jump in the world.[3]

According to the Management Committee of the Bridge, the bridge has set ten world records spanning its design and construction.[4] The record as longest glass bridge has since passed to a glass bridge in the Hongyagu Scenic Area, Hebei.[5]

On September 2, 2016, just 13 days after the bridge was opened, the authorities put out a notice saying that they were closing the bridge due to overwhelming visitor traffic.[6] The bridge, designed to hold 800 people at a time and expected to be visited by about 8,000 people per day, had reportedly attracted more than 80,000 visitors per day.[7] The authorities said that the government decided to suspend operations due to the "urgency to improve and update" the attraction, including its car parks, ticket-booking system, and customer service. The bridge reopened on September 30, 2016.[8]

The Yalong Bay Forest Park Glass Bridge is a 400 meter long elevated walkway that threads through a high mountain forest overlookimg the South China Sea at the Southern tip of Hainan Island. Located within the larger Yalong Bay Tropical Paradise Forest Park, the pathway leads visitors across and through a random assortment of glass stairs, hoops and platforms that are just above treetop level but never very high off the ground.

Today, Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and officials from Miami International Airport (MIA) celebrated the inauguration of the latest glass passenger boarding bridge at gate H17, marking a significant milestone in the airport's ongoing modernization efforts.

Proceeding out along the abutment, the pedestrian is re-oriented to travel with the river, walking upon its projected image. Positioned along the length of the bridge are three reflective panels of glass that also serve as an integral part of the bridge structure. These panels pivot as one moves along the platform, layering views and light effects that further elucidate the interaction of light, environment and observation.

Try to Avoid the Crowds

The glass bridge is very popular with visitors from home and abroad. It is crowded most of the time. We advise our customers to try to avoid the following periods when the park is particularly crowded:

Bridge is only open to those who have one of the limited tickets and time slot reserved. There are no exceptions: space to visit the Glass Bridge is limited and tickets have an entrance time which is reserved time.

If you want a multi-screen glass bridge with a bright 7-inch touchscreen that controls them all, KEP has you covered. The company has also become the U.S. distributor for various heavy duty NSI trackballs and keyboards.

Iris Innovations was showing a new line of monitors in Miami. Glass bezel style versions will be coming soon, but these were already showing the interface style with touch panning of Iris Nightrunner nav cams and zoom controls hidden in the corners. I gather that small navigation computers with cue and slew camera integration are also part of what Iris is calling IceBridge.

Ben,

Yes Miami was interesting. We are building a new center console 32ft and are we think going NSO EVO2 as the NSE EVO2 is late in release. This is based on structure scan availability. Surprised Garmin has yet to introduce one rated for salt water use and that would integrate with 8215 MFDs

From the comfort of an EcoStar 130 helicopter, I gazed down on some of the most barren Mojave Desert I'd ever seen. When we did pass a dwelling, our pilot would note, "Rainfall is less than an inch a year out here. You have to truck water in. I have no idea how people survive out here."

I pondered the same thing until we passed Dolan Springs and Meadview. Granted, they were close to where the Colorado River runs into Lake Mead, but it still looked like a tough existence. The energy in cockpit picked up. I pulled out of my reverie. It was time to descend to Grand Canyon West, home to one of the most popular attractions on the planet: The Glass bridge.

We deplaned as the aircraft's propeller still whirled. I naturally hunched over. No idea why. There's at least six feet or more between my head and the blades. I snapped some photos of my co-passengers, a couple from Australia and a father and son from San Francisco. Then we hopped a shuttle driven by a very dignified Hualapai Indian lady and began the Skywalk portion of our tour.

The Grand Canyon Sky Walk opened in 2007 and has been a hit with travelers ever since. Each year the buzz gets bigger, with more than 200,000 people experiencing the walkway each year! This popularity is due to two things: The bridge's proximity to Vegas, which is 120 miles away, and the thrill of knowing you can walk 70 feet past the edge of the West Rim.

Fortunately, we had VIP passes. These let us cut to the front of the line. If you visit during summer, I recommend buying a tour that includes such a pass. It's hot out there and very little shade. I've heard the wait can be up to 90 minutes! I've endured the lines at Six Flags Texas so I don't have an issue with that. But the heat makes it a whole different ballgame.

There's a metal detector that non-VIP pass holders have to go through. This is to stop people from bringing cell phones and cameras onto the bridge. The ban is in effect because the glass panels, which cost $250,000 each, will chip and/or scratch if these personal electronics are dropped. FYI there are professional photographers available to take your picture for $20 (excellent quality!).

The glass bridge is a phenomenal piece of modern engineering. The infrastructure weighs 1 million pounds. The designed is a cantilevered, U-shaped, 10-foot-wide deck that has been built to withstand major earthquakes and wind storms up to 100 mph. I'm told it can hold up to 800 people but by law only 120 can be on it at once. There's no time limit affecting how long you can stay on it.

Cell service is sketchy at Grand Canyon West. At the time of this writing, there are no ATM's. This can be problematic, especially when it comes to tipping guides. I recommend you bring at least $100 in cash. Credit cards were being accepted for photo purchases. I didn't get a chance to try my credit card the adjacent snack bar (there's a total of three "shops" at Grand Canyon West.

The Grand Canyon Glass Bridge is absolutely a "must-do" when visiting Vegas. Some consider renting a car. I don't advise that. The last 10 miles of road is rough, rutted dirt. If you go the self-drive route, rent an SUV and fill up with Gas before turning off to Meadview. I say spare yourself the headache and take a bus, helicopter, or airplane tour. My heli flight was awesome and I wouldn't have it any other way. No matter how you get here, just make sure you do the bridge before leaving town. 152ee80cbc
