One very handy thing was to be able to message my son in college a Starbucks gift card (right from inside Messages). The little icon is still there, but nothing happens (blank section) when I tap it.

I then tried going to the Starbucks app and tapping the Gift button. Gift cards show up but are all blank and clicking on any of them do nothing. Looked for a Starbucks update and found one. After update, it still doesn't work. Has anyone else noticed this? What a bummer. It was so easy to gift my kid, now I can't. I googled and didn't find anything. Thanks.

I recently got a Starbuck gift card as a present for Christmas and was then ask if I could use it since they heard that some campus won't accept them. I assume that they would accept it but now I am not so sure.

Has anyone been on a Norwegian cruise recently and know if you can use the Starbucks App or gift card? I'm getting very conflicting information. Any information would be great! We leave in a couple of weeks on the Getaway so just wondering. Thank you!

I know that in land locations you can scan your starbucks card barcode to just earn stars but then pay another way, so that is where I was thinking this could be done, but I assume it probably would be really complicated on a ship. I may ask onboard if it's doable just out of curiosity, but again, I highly doubt it would be allowed even if the system on land allows earning stars without paying with a starbucks gift card.

We will be in Paris next week to start our twice-postponed vacation. Last year friends gave us some Starbucks gift cards that remain unused. Has anyone used one in France? Starbucks might be an option for a restroom break or a chance to sit down and get out of the rain for a while.

Chris

Chris, while maybe you can't use the cards - makes sense about the difference in monetary units - we've had Starbucks in Paris and thought our brews tasted better than here in the States; less burnt. I know, I know, the SHAME of drinking an American brand in the City of Light but we had one really close to our hotel, and it made for a quick start to the morning. Was also nice to be able to take the cups with us when on a walking adventure! Oh, and LOTS of Parisians getting joe on the way to work, too, so we didn't feel TOO bad. :O)

When we were in Paris 5 years ago, I went to the Starbucks on BD Saint-Michel several times. The coffee was quite good, as was the atmosphere. I have a Starbucks Gold Card that I tried to use on the first visit, but was told, as noted above, that it wasn't valid. I had hoped, at the very least, to get some empty Paris Starbucks cards to take home as souvenirs, but all they had were very generic cards with no mention of Paris or France.

Signing up for the Starbucks Rewards program is SO easy and often includes a FREE drink when you sign up. If you register your card, it protects it (in case it is lost or stolen) and pays off with rewards as you use your card. You also get a FREE drink on your birthday when you are part of the program! RESULT: 1-2 FREE drinks!

If you have a smart phone, you can download the Starbucks app to insure you always have your card with you. Or you can swipe your card each time you make a purchase. Those purchases are turned into stars through the Starbucks Rewards program that add up to free drinks. Each time you make a purchase, you get one star. And when you have 12 stars, you get a FREE drink. That may sound like a lot of purchases to get something free, but there are lots of ways to earn stars. RESULT: FREE drinks throughout the year

When you sign up for Starbucks Rewards, make sure you check the box to receive emails regarding special promotions. These emails arrive in your inbox about once a week and include LOTS of promotions to help you stretch your gift card. Buy one, get one free promotions and bonus stars make it possible to get your favorite treats at a discount and move you closer to meeting the star requirements to earn FREE drinks. RESULT: faster freebies

By the way, the new Starbucks app allows you to tip your barista through your smart phone. I try to make sure I tip when I reload my card to make sure that those who serve me know they are appreciated. Including the tip amount in my budget is really important to me. I want those who work hard behind that counter to know I am thankful for the treats they make and the smiles they offer. I encourage you to account for tipping your baristas in your Starbucks budget.

Is it possible for customers to set up automatic, recurring reloads of their gift cards when the balance on their gift card reaches zero or drops below a pre-designated minimum balance that the custom sets him/herself? If not, could I ask this be submitted as a Feature Request?

My point of reference for this would be the gift card option at Starbucks. Say when I originally load my Starbucks gift card, I put $25 on it. Then I can save my credit card info to my Starbucks account and link my newly loaded gift card to said account. At that time, I can also select to have my gift card be automatically reloaded using my credit card on file if my balance falls below a certain threshold. In this case, I might set my minimum gift card balance at $10 and make my preferences such that Starbucks automatically reloads $25 onto my card. That way, any time my gift card balance drops below $10, Starbucks will automatically charge my credit card that I have on file for $25 and increase my gift card balance by $25 to be used on future purchases.

1. Reduce the number of physical gift cards that get thrown away because they are constantly being saved and reused/reloaded. This cuts down on my cost per gift card as a business owner because I'm not losing out on the price I paid for each physical gift card just to give an existing customer another new card. I don't know about other places, but typically when our customers use up the last of their gift card balance, they give them back to us or throw them away. If that customer in question loads 10 gift cards a year and I have to give them a new card every time, that's a lot of money I could be saving (or at least using more efficiently/effectively) if that customer instead just reloaded the same card 10 times rather than getting 10 new cards. We do our best to re-use our gift cards but over time they get bent, beat up, scuffed, etc and aren't presentable enough to hand out again.

3. The larger point being that it reduces the barrier for customers to come back to me. AND, more likely, they will come back even MORE frequently than before. In my case, my loyalty customers visit my shop, on average, 2x per week - I could see this sort of feature upping that to 2.5 or 3x per week which would be huge for our shop! I know that when I had my automatic reload on my card for Starbucks, I frequented them more often (even if it was out of my way or further than other options) because I could always just use the money on my gift card. I figured "well I technically already spent the money here by loading this gift card up - I should use that money first since I'm basically getting food/drink for free rather than pulling my credit/debit card out and spending even more money at some other place". Or in another scenario, I would stop in if I was nearby JUST BECAUSE I had money loaded on my gift card. Had I not had that money already sitting on that card, I probably would not have made the impulse stop ff782bc1db
