I just moved and when setting up my tv Roku at new place remote will not work. Battery replaced did a few troubleshooting ur generic **bleep** unplug/remove battery together blah blah. Nothing worked. I can't setup my Roku to wifi wo a remote.

@Jburley24 a Roku remote without a pairing button means it's an IR remote, and there's nothing to pair. You can see if the remote works by looking at it though a digital camera, like the one on a phone. If you see a flashing light through the camera when you press a button on the remote, then it's working. If there's no light, make sure you're inserted the batteries correctly. I've seen Roku remotes that have both batteries pointed the same way, and others pointed in opposite directions.

With an IR remote, there must be clear line of sight between the remote and the Roku. Nothing can block the two devices from seeing each other. Make sure the Roku is clearly visible across the entire front of the case.

@Rocoocitywaste5 without knowing the model number of your Roku, it's difficult to assist you. The model number should be printed on the case somewhere. If you have a Roku Stick (that's the one that connects directly to a TV without a cable), then you must have a working Roku remote to get it connected. Any other Roku will work with generic IR remotes that you can find anywhere that sells electronic devices.

I have a new Simple Roku (IR) remote to replace the lost remote for our Roku device (Model is: 3941X. SN: SO7P21A0366A). So far, I have replaced the batteries and ensured that they are facing the correct direction. There is a clear line of sight between the IR Remote and the Roku, however there is no response. I've been using the remote app on my phone which has been working well. What other steps might I try to make the new IR remote work or do I need a different remote for this model?

@RAS-D, check that the remote is really working. Point it at the camera in your phone and you should see a flash of light on the screen when you press a button on the remote. It's rare, but it's also possible that the IR receiver in the Roku device is bad. Some people have also reported that their remote only works a few inches from the device. I don't know what causes that unless it's just weak batteries.

The Simple remote is supposed to work with almost all Roku players. Since the app is working for you, use it to go to the Settings/Remote menu and see if your old remote is still shown as paired. If so, delete it, just in case it's turning the IR function off because a WiFi remote is paired with it.

My dog chewed up my remote. I'm going to order a new one on Amazon... when I figure out which one I need. I just downloaded the Roku app and planned on using that as a temporary remote. However, it can't connect to my Roku and says it is on a different network? Even though there is only one network... and both the Roku and my phone are already connected to it. Any suggestions on what I can do to fix this? I can't seem to get in touch with tech support or customer service. Please help me get my TV going tonight! Thank you in advance... From both me and the dog.

The play store has quite a few remote apps. Maybe one will work. Unified is a cool app that I use as a mouse or keyboard for my PC. I'm currently having the same issue but I can't find the remote to even connect to my network in the first place haha.

Please note that you have the option to use the mobile app in replacement of your remote, your TV must be connected to the WiFi network that you can use a Roku mobile app from your phone. The Roku mobile app will work only when the Roku TV and the phone are connected to the same WiFi network.

However, if there's any changes on the network (SSID and password), you will need a physical remote in order to input your new password and connect to a new wireless network. For US customers, you can check out replacement remotes in our accessories store here

Roughly a week ago the remote, latest box unit 4802X V11.5 Build 4312, wouldn't turn the TV on/off or change the volume, but it would turn on Roku unit and move through/use the channels; this is after many months of use with practically no issues.

Some phone/pad/computer cameras will respond to IR emissions from remotes. Using a remote that you are certain emits IR (some cable boxes do not emit IR by default) test your phone/pad/computer camera for IR response. If there is a response, check to make sure that your TV remote is emitting IR.

You should be able to train the cable box remote, TV remote, and PLAYBASE to use the same IR commands. Typically this amounts to picking a model XYZ A/V receiver and train the units to deal with those Volume commands.

On the 65R625 things were horrible. Connected Playbar via optical cable from TV optical output, but Playbar IR setup didn't recognize any IR codes coming from the remote. Left everything powered down for a day, and in the morning - everything worked like a charm!!! What-the-heck?

The remote that came with your Roku TV does not support IR, and that is why you may have to use your old TV remote with your Playbar/Beam. We recommend using a universal remote with your TV if you would like to control your Roku TV and your Playbar/Beam with one remote if your TV supports IR as well. We hope you understand.

I keep hoping someone from Sonos, or TCL for that matter, who actually knows will have an answer. Yes, I can use two remotes, but when I know that the TCL remote actually works, it is hard for me to let go.

This just happened to me. Yesterday troubleshooting a HDCP error with Roku, they had me to a factory reset on their box. After that was done, their remote would not change the volume on the Playbar. My Roku remote has always been controlling the Playbar Volume. When I try to connect the remote to it again, there is no response. WOrked like perfect for a year and half, until yesterday.

On the Roku, ONLY in the Spotify app, the remote up and down arrows often skip up or down... and with my Harmony 880 Universal Remote, Up arrow always jumps up exactly 3 items in any list (songs/playlists/etc.) and Down arrow always jumps DOWN exactly 3 songs/playlists/etc. Both the Roku remote and my Harmony 880 Universal remote work perfectly in every other Roku app. It's only the Spotify app exhibiting this probem.

Update: My Roku remote is now working fine with Spotify (although I'm not all that pleased with the Spotify channel, acts up a lot.). What I did was reboot my Roku, it fixed the problem. The too-fast problem on the remote hasn't cropped up again, but if it does, I'm hoping the same solution will fix it again.

I am having this same problem. The Spotify app on Roku is unusable. I just spent 45 minutes entering my username and password. I thought once I got logged in, things would be better. It wasn't. The remote is super sensitive and erratic. Pressing the button once makes the focus jump 2 or 3 or 4 times around the screen. So annoying. Obviously this is a problem. Why hasn't someone from Spotify joined in the conversation to give us an idea of when this will be fixed.

Same problem here. Roku 3 with Harmony Smart Control remote. Hit up or down while viewing options lists and the remote jumps all the way to the bottom/top of the list as if I'm holding the button down. I've tried it with the harmony remote as well as the iphone app. Same exact thing happens. It skips all the way to the end of the list with one single click.

Before you start trying to troubleshoot the issue, make sure that your remote has enough juice to work. Change the batteries first. If you have a Roku Voice Remote Pro, plug it in using the included charging cable (or any micro-USB to USB cable) as it has a rechargeable battery.

Roku sticks and boxes are among the best streaming devices out there because of their streamlined interface and affordable price tag. Yet, they sometimes have their issues, particularly with their remotes.

Interesting. I just got my mum a Roku so I'll try this out soon. Although she seems to often prefer having the Zorin Lite laptop plugged into the TV and using IPTVnator with playlists like IPTV-org, even though there's no remote ability (yet. Installing PC remote control app on her phone is another thing I need to look into.)

I've given the Roku dev remote control app a quick try. It's nice to have the option of running from the PC, although so far I haven't seen a compelling use case for it over using the phone app. At least for my mum's current set up. I might need to experiment more to see the benefits (e.g. explore the scripting possibilities?)

But I can't find a Linux binary on its homepage nor in Synaptic (and I've no experiencing of compiling from source or "gitting" software).

There's a Reddit thread where the developer answers questions about the app, but the current Reddit strike means it's Private Viewing only.

Using the feature of the Roku yUltra voice remote, I say "open pandora" and it opens a screen and plays my last requested station. This screen has no options like I get when I open Pandora manually, and I cannot change stations or do anything else.

What I found was once I opened pandora via a voice command, I could not give pandora any further commands, remote or voice except pause, play and a small help menu. Pressing the microphone key on my Roku remote activated the Roku command control, and had nothing to do with changing channels on pandora. So I cannot see how I would access any voice commands from this version of the app.

I am up to date. On the roku ultra, you have to hit the microphone key on the remote to use voice commands. Everything I have tried just hits the roku speech command software.. Nothing I try even stays in pandora, the commands just either try and relaunch pandora or say something like "I dont understand". ff782bc1db
