I hope this is a quick question - quick answer. Is it possible for laptop to connect over VPN through Android phone running OpenVPN app connected to the OpenVPN server? I tested it using the Android phone as both Wifi hotspot and USB tethering and it did not seem to work - I could not see/connect to the hardware on the VPN connected network. I wonder if there is some setting that I need to set on Android phone which will allow me to do this.

My MacBook Pro pro can't see my Android phone wifi hotspot, when I got the phone new the MacBook was seeing the hotspot and I was connecting to it but after some months it stopped seeing the network. It sees other wifi network around but can't see that of my Android phone

I had the same problem, but was able to fix this by switching the hotspot wifi network on my android phone to 5GHz Band, it can be done deep in the hotspot settings, see also this article: -trouble-connecting-with-android-7-0-wireless-hotspot-try-this/

There are lots of post on SO regarding setting up AP (Hotspot) on android mobile. However, in all these cases, the AP is a conduit to the outside internet world. In my case, I just want a server application running over a mobile setup as an AP. And let all the client android mobiles connect to it, send their data and disconnect if they like. No internet connection is assumed (i.e, no gprs/3g etc).

My observations: If I setup a wifi AP (via settings -> tethering and portable hotspots) when it is also connected to GPRS, then another android phone can successfully connect to this AP and send the data to the application. However, if I disable the GPRS, even though the client shows that it is connected to the AP, it can't seem to send any data. It seems that an external internet connection is a necessity for the AP mode to work.

I know that I am late to the party (more than 3 years late :) but I was searching for a solution to this problem and stumbled upon an easy workaround. I am using a Nexus 4 with Android 5.0.1 and I can easily configure my phone to use it as an Android Wi-fi AP hotspot - without internet. Just go to Settings / Data Usage and disable "Mobile data" option under the Mobile tab. Then enable the WiFi hotspot option as usual.

I am having the same exact problem as Jangran my AT&T service is down and I was currently connected to my mobile hotspot I had no issues but now I try to reconnect back to it I forgot how to do that I am confused about another setup to connect to the mobile hotspot I already tried health device settings can you please walk me through how to reconnect by device back to my mobile hotspot

so basically what I am saying is I was using my mobile spot until I got AT&T service now the service is down so i want to reconnect my device back to mobile hotspot how do I do this I forgot how because a phone representative walked me through it again I already tried the health device it just keeping only giving me the option to only reconnect to wifi no option for hotspot

ps. while I'm at it - is it possible to have a two way connection with my setup. So that I could browse my android's filesystem on PC as well as my PC's from my android? Or is that only possible if I create an explicit SAMBA server on my android?

Try connecting to your hotspot, then check the ip on the laptop in CMD ( ifconfig ), Then try use "Cx File Explorer".. And make sure you connect to the hotspot not as Public.. Public Network on windows is blocking moste connectivity ports (smb is one of them)

Without root access this is a no go... But with root access, at least in theory, this should be possible, although, probably not worth the trouble. It would also need to be reset when the hotspot is turned off, otherwise your device will have no internet access.

I am trying to connect my Android 12 phone to wifi hotspot initiated on Ubuntu 22.04. However the wifi hotspot is not visible in the list of available networks when set on WPA security. When I switch to open security, it is visible and works well. However I cannot leave it on open security.I tried the solutions given in the other post related to older Ubuntu versions as well as new one like the ones inubuntu 18.04 hotspot not visibleI have tried below options:

The "troubleshooting" link you sent doesn't help. It simply says: "For the best experience, download the Xfinity WiFi Hotspots app. The app will download and install the Xfinity WiFi secure profile, providing you access to secure hotspots and allowing your device to automatically connect to Xfinity WiFi Hotspots in the future without having to sign in each time."

3) Posted a message for help on Twitter to @XfinitySupport. They responded quickly, but then insisted on running diagnostics on my home modem/router. After dozens of messages they also didn't have any useful suggestions. And they apparently couldn't escalate the problem to someone that knows about your hotspots.

I updated to 2.24.2 Firmware. I was not be able to stablish a connection between my Android phone and the RS2 (in hotspot mode). Tried a lot of times with 2 different Android phones and 2 different RS2 antennas. This is the error message:

My only means of connecting to the internet is via my Android phone so in order to use all the features of the router I use an additional tplink Nano (WR802N v3, FW 3.16.9 build 160801). This connects to the Android hotspot wirelessly, and is then connected to the C7 via ethernet. I've been running this setup for the last couple of years after talking to tech support who told me there is no setting within the router to achieve the above requirements.

I'm trying to SSH into my pi but I don't have a wifi router in the area but I do have cell data. I've been working on giving the laptop internet access via usb tethering to my phone or having the phone set up a wireless hotspot. Then bridging the wireless connection and ethernet connection on the laptop and plugging an ethernet cable to the rpi from the laptop.

If you are having difficulty connecting via SSH to a Raspi on a local hotspot. Maybe... They both have to be on the same network. That is your laptop has to be on the personal hotspot too. A moment's reflection enables you to understand why. It's using a local network like 192.168.... which is only in your house, not on the whole web. the iPhone 172.20.10.xx is similar!

Hi folks,

So I just recently learned about tail scale, we are a small not for profit company that support a larger nonprofit org that uses android handhelds used by survey takers across the country.

I installed the pushed update for Android 13 on my Zenfone 8, and after that my WiFi hotspot stopped working. The option is no longer under its typical location in Settings > Network & Internet, it must be searched for or accessed via shortcut. I have tried changing all Hotspot settings, factory reset the phone, and I even contacted my wireless provider to confirm service is active for my account. I have read that downgrading to Android 12 enables WiFi functionality again, but I'd like to know how ASUS will address the issue.

Same issue. Pls help ASUS. I USED hours of hotspot before upgrading and was perfect, now the toggle button doesn't turn it on. Tried restart and messing with setting and third party apps, nothing works

THe PC hosting, android joining works the same as Android hosting, PC joining.

I have never tried adding another Android to the session since I only have one Android that can run Unreal engine, and it only goes 5-12 fps at that.

I managed to get this working with MacroDroind app for android. Just created a macro that turn on Hotspot when bluetooth is connected to my car.

But would be great to have this available on HA mobile app.

I got a lenovo B570. When creating a hotspot with my android phone I'm able to connect the the wifi but I can not access any sites or ping any IPs.

The hotspot itself works, I checked with other devices (Dell laptop also running arch, android phones). Also my local wifi works with the B570.

To add to the fun, my android native hotspot also provides a "192.168.43" address. Looking into the android source code the range and gateway ip's seem to be hardcoded. Unless rooted this part can't be configured incorrectly.

In general (or as a 100% rule?) hotspots do not give out public ip's to their clients, this will cause issues when communicating to the internet at large. It would be like trying to purchase alcohol using a fake id that looks nothing like you - denied all day long =P

I have integrated the RIL source 8.1.2 into my Android source based on the Android-x86 platform. We are using EM7455 modem. We are unable to connect to Hotspot when Mobile data is on, It is showing ERROR in GUI at Wifi hotspot settings.

Ok so my friends and I want to play Minecraft in school. 1 year ago we played it and it worked just fine over hotspot. I setup the hotspot, they connect to my hotspot, and when they enter Minecraft it worked fine. Now on update 1.9.0.5 beta I setup hotspot, they connect to my hotspot and if I launch a already created world before, it won't show up in friends list. Now here's the twist if I create a totally new world it would actually show up in friends tab and they can join and it all works great we can do everything. And if I than exit and enter again in the world it won't show up. So it's basically one time only.

I've seen several threads saying that the My Spectrum app (Android) doesn't have the ability to load a WiFi Profile (despite all of the Support pages saying that's what you're supposed to do), and to just use your Spectrum ID & password to connect to a hotspot. However, when I try to connect to either a Spectrum Mobile or Spectrum Free Trial hotspot, I get asked a number of questions, including EAP, Phase 2 authentication, CA certificate, Identity, Anonymous Identity, and Password.

Welcome to the Community! I'm sorry to hear that you are unable to connect to the Spectrum Hotspot. I'd like to ask a few questions to try getting to the bottom of this. When you say "hotspot", are you referring to the hotspot that is generated by your mobile device so that other devices can connect? Or are you trying to connect your device to an Out of Home wifi hotspot in the area? 006ab0faaa
