Firefox was created by Mozilla as a faster, more private alternative to browsers like Internet Explorer, and now Chrome. Today, our mission-driven company and volunteer community continue to put your privacy above all else.

The technology for extensions in Firefox is, to a large extent, compatible with the extension API supported by Chromium-based browsers (such as Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Opera, Vivaldi). In most cases, extensions written for Chromium-based browsers run in Firefox with just a few changes.

Getting annoyed with "Your Firefox Browser is out of date" notification that hijacks the browser page every time I open Firefox. If I wanted to update I would! I do not want to update. I want to remain on the version I have so HOW DO I STOP the annoying notification alert every time I open a browser window ...to which I have been selecting. "No thanks, I will risk it". I do not want this box popping up anymore. It seems like a bullying form of forcing something on someone.

Hi Tyler,Thanks for the quick reply. To your question: Is there a reason you don't want to update? The short answer to this is an old saying that I often live by: If it ain't broken, don't fix it.Often more times than not when I have upgraded in the past whether it was my browser, Media Player, or other programs what usully happens is the format, the overall look of the program that one has got used to changes a fair bit. In other cases some aspects of the new upgraded program become intrusive, annoying or impaired. When someone gets used to the layout and look and feel of a program, changing it all around is a negative and makes it hard to navigate and learn all over and frankly, I have never had a security issue thus far with my Malware and Virus protection.

Hi Tyler,Well I just went to Tools- Options- Advanced and low and behold all three boxes are UNCHECKED I am still being hassled by a drop down box telling me my browser is out of date. Here is the drop down box that haunts me now every time I open a new browser window:

After downloading and installing that, then I would suggest using a resource like -firefox-4-look-like-ff-3-6/, which will help you customize Firefox to look and behave just like firefox 3.6, but with all the new security fixes (Just so you know, by not updating, you are vulnerable to almost all of the security holes listed at -vulnerabilities/firefox.html, and more).

With the new theme and customization (which shouldn't take very long to do) you should be all set. I know getting used to a new look and feel is difficult, fortunately that is the beauty of firefox, you can make it behave and look how you want it to. But, just not upgrading because "it isn't broken" don't work here, because unfortunately, Firefox 3.6.6 is broken due to security issues, crashes, speed and web standards support :(

I am also annoyed by the notification of "Your Firefox Browser is out of date" that hijacks the browser page every time I open Firefox. As a matter of fact, I had to downgrade Firefox to the version 3.6 because it is the only one compatible with the RealPlayer plugin that allow me to download content from youtube easier than any of the all other junk out there

This whole Firefox is annoying my concept of ownership of my own computer, I can't be wasting time on annoyances every time I open my browser - if that's Firefox policy, it has something in common with ie

I am older than DOS and I can tell you, there is no such thin as a browser that is also a firewall and antivirus and wipe your back at the same time - if so, just delete your antivirus and install the new version of everything (yeah right)

I think that it is about the time to seek for another browser that is just a browser and let my firewall to be the firewall and my antivirus to take care of the viruses - trend micro proxy also prevent me from accidentally accessing malicious web sites

Actually, if you do upgrade to Firefox 12, and can't get it to work, you can downgrade to 3.6 -US/firefox/all-older.html has the installers. Please note this isn't supported at all due to security issues.

Yeah...this is annoying me. I hated when I upgraded from 2 to 3 because it broke all of my plugins...I don't want to break all of my plugins from firefox 3 Mozilla! What about that do you not understand??

Beginning with Firefox 68, the Browser Console allows you to show or hide messages from the content process (i.e. the messages from scripts in all the opened pages) by setting or clearing the checkbox labeled Show Content Messages. The following image shows the browser console focused on the same page as above after clicking on the Show Content Messages checkbox.

Add Firefox across all your devices for the best of secure, seamless browsing. Sync your devices to take your favorite bookmarks, saved logins and open tabs wherever you go. Send open tabs between mobile and desktop. And Firefox makes password management easy by remembering your passwords across devices. Just tap the three bars in your Firefox browser to start taking your internet life everywhere, knowing that your data is safe, never sold.

First of all I want to say that I like firefox a lot, I switched to it about 8 months ago. The browser history struck me as a little bit weird at first but I didn't think much of it, I thought I did something wrong or I just didn't pay attention. As time went on, I started to notice myself struggling more and more, and it became really frustrating.

I feel like it makes no sense, I press ctrl+H, I'm expecting to see my browser history, expecting to see the pages I just closed in there. I look, then look again then look again, and I literally have no idea how it works, I finally found the page I just opened, but it was in the middle of everything, there were pages I opened before AND pages I opened after, both over it, I made sure it was sorted by date and everything. I genuinely don't know if that's the only issue with it, or if there are also missing pages, but I can't look at it too much.

I have a website and at the moment I am creating a landing page for a Marketing Campaign. The scope of the page is for users to sign up to our platform, with the secondary CTA with a popup form that collects their emails and sends some document templates to them. Everything is working, but on the Mozilla browser the popup is not displaying at all.

Mozilla Firefox, or simply Firefox, is a free and open-source[11] web browser developed by the Mozilla Foundation and its subsidiary, the Mozilla Corporation. It uses the Gecko rendering engine to display web pages, which implements current and anticipated web standards.[12] In November 2017, Firefox began incorporating new technology under the code name "Quantum" to promote parallelism and a more intuitive user interface.[13] Firefox is available for Windows 10 or later versions, macOS, and Linux. Its unofficial ports are available for various Unix and Unix-like operating systems, including FreeBSD,[14] OpenBSD,[15] NetBSD,[16] illumos,[17] and Solaris Unix.[18] It is also available for Android and iOS. However, as with all other iOS web browsers, the iOS version uses the WebKit layout engine instead of Gecko due to platform requirements. An optimized version is also available on the Amazon Fire TV as one of the two main browsers available with Amazon's Silk Browser.[19]

Firefox was created in 2002 under the code name "Phoenix" by members of the Mozilla community who desired a standalone browser rather than the Mozilla Application Suite bundle. During its beta phase, it proved to be popular with its testers and was praised for its speed, security, and add-ons compared to Microsoft's then-dominant Internet Explorer 6. It was released on November 9, 2004,[20] and challenged Internet Explorer's dominance with 60 million downloads within nine months.[21] It is the spiritual successor of Netscape Navigator, as the Mozilla community was created by Netscape in 1998, before its acquisition by AOL.[22]

Firefox usage share grew to a peak of 32.21% in November 2009,[23] with Firefox 3.5 overtaking Internet Explorer 7, although not all versions of Internet Explorer as a whole;[24][25] its usage then declined in competition with Google Chrome.[23] As of December 2023[update], according to StatCounter, it had a 6.7% usage share on traditional PCs (i.e. as a desktop browser), making it the fourth-most popular PC web browser after Google Chrome (62%), Safari (13%), and Microsoft Edge (11%).[26][27]

The project began as an experimental branch of the Mozilla project by Dave Hyatt, Joe Hewitt, and Blake Ross. They believed the commercial requirements of Netscape's sponsorship and developer-driven feature creep compromised the utility of the Mozilla browser.[28] To combat what they saw as the Mozilla Suite's software bloat, they created a standalone browser, with which they intended to replace the Mozilla Suite.[29] Version 0.1 was released on September 23, 2002.[30] On April 3, 2003, the Mozilla Organization announced that it planned to change its focus from the Mozilla Suite to Firefox and Thunderbird.[31] e24fc04721
