A simple but enjoyable plot, the comedic elements certainly propel the film with its unique approach. Combined with the good acting ensemble, Zombie on Sale is worthwhile viewing. There are slow motion shots mimicking action movies, there is the meet-cute plus references to other zombie films, with the characters even taking notes whilst watching Train to Busan in preparation for a zombie attack! A red, hooded, sweatshirt worn by the zombie is apparently a reference to the film Warm Bodies for those zombie film fans. There may have been references to other zombie films as well and so let me know in the comments which ones you discover on watching. Zombie on Sale is certainly hilarious but silly in its execution!

Zombie on Sale invites us to suspend our disbelief as some of the scenarios are quite frankly ludicrous, but it is this madcap energy permeating throughout the film that will keep you riveted and adds to its charm. Somehow, amongst all of the silliness Zombie on Sale finds the time to portray a rom-com too with a burgeoning romance! The film is bloated, as it attempts to please everyone, which results in some slow pacing. But, Zombie on Sale is an easy watch providing comic relief however it would have benefited from some sharper editing.

Zombie on Sale is certainly not perfect, and it does not traverse the genres seamlessly, but it can be commended for its efforts, from a first time director, as an entertaining fresh take on the established zombie horror scene.

The time has again come for FEAR FOREVER to bring you coverage of THE TORONTO AFTER DARK FILM FESTIVAL, one of our home-grown favorites. This year the festival brings us what I think is one of the most fun films of the year: THE ODD FAMILY: ZOMBIE ON SALE.

After human clinical trials create an all too familiar deadly virus, a test subject wanders into a country town where he promptly bites the father of the Park family. After catching the undead biter- the Park family have differing ideas on what to do with their new pet: Jun-Gul and his pregnant wife want to kill him, Min-Gul wants to sell him to a laboratory, Man-Duk wants to cash in on the regenerative effects of his bite, and the youngest, Hye-Gul, is falling in love with him! Naturally, things do not go to plan and suddenly this very unusual family find themselves having to fight for survival against the walking dead.

The Park family are a set of truly zany characters. Brought to life by Kim Nam-Gil, Jung Jae-young, Um Ji-Won, Lee Soo-Kyung, Jung Ga-Ram and Park In-Hwan. These actors, skilled from extensive careers, are amazing comedians who sell the entire film. They bring a perfect mix of charm, heart, slapstick and snappy comebacks to these memorable characters. You will have a soft spot for the odd family thanks to these great performances.

It is into this bizarre household that our zombie stumbles, having been infected during illegal human experiments. Hilarity ensues from the get-go, with poor Zzongbie (Jung Ga-Ram), as he is soon named, desperately trying (and failing) to bite those he comes into contact with, before being chased away by a local dog. Eventually, he succeeds in attacking Man-Deok (Park In-Hwan) but this light bite does little to harm the furious elder, who chases the terrified zombie out with a few punches.

Half comedy, half horror, audiences will be pleased by the balance of scary scenes to amusing ones. It can appeal to horror fans or wimps alike, and entertain as well as scare. Fight scenes are executed well and there are fantastic moments where the zombie apocalypse seems more possible (and more hilarious) than ever. Even romantics will find something to enjoy, with plenty of adorable scenes between Hae-Gul and Zzongbie, whose slow, strange romance charms the whole audience.

Ultimately, The Odd Family: Zombie on Sale is a zombie comedy that works very well. Admittedly, it feels somewhat similar to other zombie films, most notably Shaun of the Dead, with its light-hearted tone and dysfunctional characters, and Warm Bodies. However, it does have its own unique tropes that set it apart, creating a new, refreshing zombie comedy.

The young living dead man, a runaway test subject from a nearby laboratory, ends up biting Man-Duk Park, the patriarch of the family, during a chance encounter. But instead of turning the man into a zombie himself, he is turned 20 years younger, trading his thinning grey hair for thick black hair and losing his less than impressive member and enlarged prostate for a well-oiled machine (so to speak). The Park family soon realizes the opportunity and starts to sell bites to old men in the community, leading to some unforeseen consequences.

While the film is enjoyable for a while, Zombie for Sale fails to infuse enough new blood into a dying subgenre to make this zom-com worth the nearly two-hour commitment. The film starts out with a flavor that feels very much like Lee watched Shaun of the Dead right before starting shooting. The comedy is very similar and apparent from the start. It tends to fall a little flat at times, but ultimately the problem with Zombie for Sale is that the premise of a zombie bite giving life rather than taking it is nearly abandoned for a less interesting storyline for almost the entire third act.

Anyone who has been bitten by Family Park's zombie feels like a teenager again - brimming with energy. A little ketchup on the arm is enough to knock the zombie's teeth into your flesh. People are queuing up for a bite, family Parks cash register rings. But then everything gets out of hand. The creepy factor of Lee Min-jae's debut is not too high, but it offers all the more good humor.

A nice little irreverent and goofy comedy horror about zombies and greed. The film is shot in a way that is consistently interesting and engaging and the story is funny. Could've use a little extra of something I can't quite put my finger on but overall I liked this a lot.

Continuing in the strong, proud, and widely undervalued tradition of the zom-com, Zombie For Sale tells a relentlessly light-hearted story of a dysfunctional family of financial scammers and a stray zombie who stumbles into their lives. It's most definitely not for everyone, but man - I smiled the whole way through.

A lighthearted comedy horror with a Warm Bodies twist. It didn't click with me at first because of the type of humor, it's particular, different. I can't say I laughed that much unfortunately but I enjoyed the other aspects such as the Warm Bodies romance going on, the "zombie for sale" plot and the family approach is heartwarming. It's beautifully shot, the acting is good but my favorite thing about this is the soundtrack/score it's perfect. A few fun twists I didn't expect. It dragged a tiny bit in the middle. The last 30-40 minutes are pure zombie entertainment. Totally different from anything i've seen before and original, it's just a shame about the comedy. A cabbage-eating zombie is something i'll remember for sure!

Super cute and extremely fun! Certainly the sweetest and most lighthearted zombie film I've seen. Wacky and over the top but with real heart and some genuine emotional moments. Has some great flawed but likable and very entertaining characters. One of those movies that just leaves you in a good mood after watching it.

The story and flow isn't that perfect, it's uneven balanced, lacks on tension and suffers from important plot holes ! The characters on the other hand shift this movie in the right place, with a lot of funny and bizarre moments. They keep it very lighthearted, almost never getting to the darker side of things !

A fun Korean romzomcom similar to Warm Bodies but unique in its own way. The lead zombie loves eating Ketchup on cabbage which visually made me a lil queasy. Something that really stood out in Zombie For Sale are the characters, from the main family to the side characters, everyone is colorful and quirky. Things get pretty intense during the second half of film but there were still many hilarious moments which added to my enjoyment even more.

The strongest quality Odd Family has going for it is how long the film sustains itself while keeping zombies an almost tertiary element to the script. A pharmaceutical company and its illegal clinical testing on vagrants has produced living-dead-type people and kept them entirely under wraps from the public.

One such victim (Jung Ga-ram) escapes and dodders off into the dysfunctional arms of the Park family, an oddball clan of outsiders who run a failing service station in the sleepy, aging town of Poongsan, fleecing who they can to survive. Headed by grieving patriarch Man-deok (Park In-hwan), bumbling son Joon-gul (Jung Jae-young) and his stern pregnant wife Nam-joo (Uhm Ji-won), the zombie attacks Man-deok and, rather than infecting him as is generic tradition, revitalizes him and makes him younger.

Seeing dollar signs in the undead prospect now tied up in their barn, the family, at the behest of estranged, greedy son Min-gul (Kim Nam-gil), retrofit their service station into a clinic of sorts, offering the elderly citizens of Poongsan new life in exchange for cash and a nasty bite wound. All the while, youngest and most isolated Hae-gul (Lee-soo-kyung) begins to feel a kinship for Jjong-bi, a name that she gives him (say it out loud) and essentially adopts him into the family. 152ee80cbc
