Overdrive is a 2017 action thriller film directed by Antonio Negret and written by Michael Brandt and Derek Haas. An international co-production of France, Belgium and the United States,[3][4] the film stars Scott Eastwood, Freddie Thorp, Ana de Armas, Gaia Weiss, Simon Abkarian and Clemens Schick. Principal photography began on 4 January 2016 in Paris and Marseille, France. The film tells the story of skilled car thieves who are sent to steal a crime lord's luxury car.

When the day of the robbery comes, the brothers put their plan into effect. Stephanie, locked in a room in Morier's house, attempts to seduce Laurent and fails, although she manages to steal his key to the door and escapes. She sets off the house alarms and leaves with a rifle to meet Andrew, Garret and their team at the door. Morier realises that the events that led up to this point have been part of an elaborate diversion to allow them to steal his own car collection. Morier only understands what is happening as the gang are making their escape and he chases them to the docks. During the pursuit, Andrew proposes to Stephanie and she agrees to marry him. In a final confrontation, Morier is killed when his car is rammed into the water by a large motor coach driven by Devin. Devin leaves, promising to call Garret.

On 12 May 2011, it was announced that Pierre Morel would produce the action thriller film Overdrive. Antonio Negret signed on to direct the film based on the script by Michael Brandt and Derek Haas, who would also produce the film. Sentient Pictures would produce the film.[8] On 1 September 2015 Christopher Tuffin was also announced to produce the film.[5] In November 2015, Kinology sold the film's international rights to different buyers.[9] Alex Pettyfer, Matthew Goode, Garrett Hedlund, Jamie Bell, Karl Urban, Ben Barnes, Emilia Clarke and Sam Claflin were all once attached separately at various points during development.[5][8][10][11]

Overdrive was first released theatrically in Slovenia on 15 June 2017.[2][4] The film was then released in Belgium on 9 August 2017 by Belga Films and in France on 16 August 2017 by Ocan Films.[4][13] In the United States, it was released in select theaters and on demand and digital on 6 October 2017 by Paramount Pictures.[14][15]

Caught up in the awe of special effects, his ideas jumping from the page to the stunt man ablaze in front of him, King ruled like an overpowered child. De Laurentiis wanted the film shot quickly and cheaply, and staffed the film with pay-to-work crews. It was a dangerous playground for an unhinged novice.

The film: The Earth is passing through the tail of a comet and it causes the technology across the world to become sentient and automatically evil. Humans swiftly become the targets and a motley crew of survivors take refuge in the Dixie Boy Truckstop, including ex-con Bill (Emilio Estevez), his grumpy, power-mad boss Bubba (Pat Hingle), and hitchhiker Brett (Laura Harrington). As the trucks around them start to pick them off, or more accurately, flatten them like pancakes, they have to work together and figure out a way to defeat the sentient vehicles surrounding them.

Based on the short story "Trucks" from the Night Shift collection. After a rogue comet which hides the presence of a UFO passes by, trucks and other machines come alive and begin killing people. The story takes place at the Dixie Boy truck stop where honeymooners, Connie (Yeardley Smith) and Curt (John Short) and several other travelers have gone to try to escape the carnage. Short-order cook, Bill Robinson (Emilio Estevez), and the other diners soon find themselves trapped. The restaurant owner, Bubba Hendershot (Pat Hingle) convinces Robinson to try to lead the group against the killing machines. King, who directed the film, also plays a cameo as a man attempting to use an ATM.

A common complaint leveled against film adaptations is that they often cut too much of the original material to fit their run time. This is where miniseries and television shows can really shine. With more time to tell the story, they can often provide a more faithful adaptation.

Colombian helmer Antonio Negret is mostly known for his TV work, but producer Pierre Morel is the key name here. A graduate of the Luc Besson school of French-set, English-language action thrillers, Morel directed Liam Neeson in the first Taken movie back in 2008. Currently in U.K. theaters ahead of its French debut later this week, Overdrive is receiving a staggered European and Asian release before its U.S. launch. This kind of rollout is usually reserved for dead-in-the-water duds, but it worked for Taken and may yet help turbocharge the commercial prospects of this formulaic adolescent-male button-pusher, which is witless and brainless but not entirely joyless. ff782bc1db
