On a school outing to an abandoned mine, Washburn's little sister is trapped in the collapse of a mine tunnel caused as the result of a disgruntled employee's negligence, and the town's industries come to her rescue. The sister is rescued and flown in a company plane to the big city, and Washburn has a change of heart and recognizes that big corporations are necessary because, "It takes bigness to do big things", a line in the film delivered by MacFarland, the maker of the medical device that saved the sister.
Award winning director, Catherine Zimmerman, and film crew traveled across the country to visit Hometown Habitat heroes, who are reversing detrimental impacts on the land and in the water of major U.S. watersheds, one garden at a time. They wound their way through the watersheds of Florida, the prairies of the Mississippi River Basin, the streams and rivers of the Rocky Mountains, the Chesapeake Bay, the Great Lakes and Columbia River to share success stories and works-in-progress that celebrate conservation landscaping that re-awakens and redefines our relationship with Nature.

Eco-artists, South Florida (Environmental Art Solutions) Artists are finding ways to use their art to help solve environmental problems in their hometowns. We follow two, unique artists as they identify eco-issues, collaborate with experts to solve the issue, and involve the community in the eco-art solution.
Wild Ones (Grass roots, service based, environmental activism). Hometown Habitat visits two Wild Ones chapters in the Great Lakes watershed. Green Bay, Wild Ones activist, Ned Dorff, is a teacher, husband, father, city council activist and naturalist. Ned represents an up and coming crowd of young people actively and politically engaged in making environmental change, for the better, in their hometowns. Todd Crail, Oak Openings Wild Ones founder in Toledo, is an environmental science lecturer, for University of Toledo. Crail advocates with UT for a service based learning experience, where his students are fully engaged in actively solving environmental, community issues.
The 8th annual film festival includes five days of feature-length films, short films and animation from filmmakers across the U.S. and around the world from April 12 to 16. Workshops, VIP parties along with a number of celebrity guests will be on hand throughout the festival.
In Fabric: Director Peter Strickland distinguished himself as a genre cinema craftsman of the highest order with his two previous films, Berberian Sound Studio and The Duke of Burgundy. His visually and aurally sumptuous thriller about a cocktail dress with a homicidal life of its own is reportedly his best effort yet. (May 29 and 30)

Shelton journeyed back to Seattle after graduate school and took an unpaid gig editing Measure, a short dance film, which led to her first feature editing gig: a locally produced 2002 thriller called Outpatient.
Hometown Habitat, Stories of Bringing Nature Home is a 90-minute environmental documentary produced by award-winning filmmaker, Catherine Zimmerman that educates the viewer about the critical role that native plants play in our ecosystems. Beyond the education, the film shares a series of successful, nation-wide initiatives that inspire us to get involved and make a difference in our own landscapes and client projects.
It was in this climate that the Taiwanese language film Dusk Hometown () was released on April 2 or 26, 1965. Promotional materials indicate that screenings in several cinemas were planned and may have even taken place. At some point all of the known reels of the film were collected and destroyed by the government.
The Hamptons International Film Festival has its annual Views from Long Island program, which features films made here or bearing a strong local connection. But given how many people in entertainment and film are full or part-time residents of the South Fork, there are always a few more movies that have roots in the area.
The film is composed of interviews with Mr. Delsener, who recently retired at the age of 86, and with his wife and colleagues, and footage of him going about his daily business and his nightly haunts. He is also captured at his East Hampton house, examining the archives of a career spanning more than half a century. The film will be shown at East Hampton Cinema on Tuesday at 5:15 p.m.
Although a documentary on Ukraine is not the first thing that comes to mind when one thinks "local," the feature "Rule of Two Walls," was executive produced by Liev Schreiber, a part-time South Fork resident. The film is about artists carrying on their lives in the midst of a modern-day war. It also premiered at Tribeca in June. The artists in the film make music, studio paintings, street art, and film in defiance of the Russian invasion.
Mr. Schreiber co-founded BlueCheck Ukraine after the war started and works with UNITED24, President Volodymyr Zelensky's fund-raising platform for Ukraine, to get money directly to the war's front lines. At the time of the film's premiere, he said he had been to the country three times since the beginning of the invasion.
"As an artist in my own right trying to do all that I can to help Ukraine," he said in the film's production notes, "I responded to the film's focus on Ukrainian artists processing the brutality of the war, while using their art to fight back."
According to TheCinemaholic, Hometown Holiday was filmed primarily in Toronto, Ontario, a popular destination for production. However, certain scenes were also filmed in Barrie, Ontario, a more rural locale just over an hour north of Toronto.
Historic Downtown Burgaw is an eclectic variety of 18th and 19th Century architecture that represents a vanishing example of a by-gone era. The film industry has always been attracted to this charming town. Our shops, parks, schools, street corners, and more have been backdrops for dozens of your favorite television and movie productions.
This process involved receiving demo material from the filmmaker and then choosing a scene, or a series of scenes, and writing music for it. McRae, for instance, selected two places along the demo track and wrote music totaling, he said, around three minutes to complement the film.
Amidst the backdrop of ongoing and resolved strikes, one thing is certain: the show must go on. The announcement of films that will be shown at the 32nd Annual Philadelphia Film Festival is part of bringing films that will be in competition for awards this season. Philadelphia has a lot of talent in front of and behind the camera for the festival.

Emmy award-winning director and producer Peter Nicks has called Oakland, California home since 1997. He has been part of the SFFILM community as a filmmaker, grantee, honoree, mentor, and valued partner for well over a decade. His Oakland Trilogy has been part of three SFFILM Festival programs respectively: The Waiting Room (SFFILM Festival 2012), The Force (SFFILM Festival 2017), and Homeroom (SFFILM Festival 2021).
Tickets to Opening Night: Stephen Curry: Underrated for the Opening Night Film & Party at 6:30 pm are $95 for SFFILM members, and $110 for the general public. Tickets for the second screening at 9:30 pm, which includes an introduction with the filmmakers and special guests, are $25 for SFFILM members, and $30 for the general public. Smitley, with the help of Corbin Tourism Director Maggy Monhollen and the blessing of Corbin Mayor Suzie Razmus, put out a casting call for extras for the film, looking for kids ranging from 10 to 18 years old. Smitley said he has since filled all the spots, with approximately 50 extras from the surrounding area expected to be a part of the filming this weekend.
Smitley said it will also be a good way to make some of those necessary connections in the film industry, as producers from all over the state, as well as the head of the Kentucky Film Commission, may even make an appearance. Executive producer Debbie Vandermuelen out of Los Angeles, who has had projects earn recognition at some renowned festivals like Cannes, Sundance and Toronto, will also be in attendance this weekend. 006ab0faaa
