I have created layer files and packages and uploaded them to my account so they are in "my content." However, when I try to add those layers to a map, I keep getting the message that there is nothing in "my content" that I can add to the map.

I tried just uploading zipped shapefiles to an AGOL map directly from my laptop, but kept getting a message that that file type (shapefile) was not supported ... I then created layer files and then layer packages and uploaded them to "my content," but the platform won't find them in my content.... I admittedly don't use AGOL much at all, I generally use desktop, but I have used it in the past and haven't had this trouble. It seems like adding a shapefile/ layer should be the easiest thing in the world, but it's driving me bananas ...

Layer files and packages can be uploaded, but they are not data sources that can be directly used by the AGOL platform. A layer file doesn't even contain data. They are just considered documents to AGOL, like a PDF, which can be downloaded.

Shapefiles, though, are data and can be uploaded but they need to be converted into a hosted feature layer before they can be used in a map or app. If you upload a .zip of a shapefile, making certain it contains all the files that are part of it, be sure to select the option to convert it to a hosted feature layer. If you don't then the zip file is just a document that can be downloaded.

So, what if I can't upload a shapefile at all?? That's what I tried to do first, and I kept getting a message that a shapefile was not a supported file type, so I never even got to any place that had the option of converting it to a hosted feature layer. That was what I wanted to do, and tried to do, in the first place. When I kept getting the message that a shapefile is not a supported file type, I thought I needed to try the layer files and packages. I did make sure that all of the sub-files of the shapefiles were included.

Did you zip your shapefile? Don't forget a "shapefile" is actually 3 or more files with the same file name but different extensions. It is usually 5 files, that's why it has to be zipped. You can't just upload a .SHP file.

Yes! I zipped all 7 files. I'm very familiar with all of the parts of a shapefile and I sent them to a zip file and tried to upload that and I kept getting the message that it was an unrecognized file type. I'm totally confused and would appreciate any help. It still won't work.

It is not stricte Affinity topic but kinda related. I'm using Fast Stone Image Viewer in my "workflow" and I'm addicted by simplicity of this software and full-screen preview which is very importand thing for me. BUT this soft does not support viewing of Affinity formats (any vector formats btw) and since Designer is my number one weapon I'm looking for something with ability to display at least THUMBNAILS of graphic files (like Windows file explorer do).

OK - i know I'm maybe demanding so it is not even neccesary to opening files by viewer but i want to see thumbnails to have ensurance the folder with Affinity files is not empty when I'm browsing files with image viewer.

Thanks for reply. Yes, I'm using Explorer sometimes but generally I prefer Total Commander as a file manager and Faststone Image Viewer as photo/image browser. TC is able to show thumbnails but FIV is very, very convenient if I need to browse images (and does not show Affinity files at all).

for those using a Mac or Windows and with RAW photo files, I use FastRawViewer. It is especially helpful for analyzing images. By using the R key as a shortcut it will open your image in Photo's Develop Persona ( this is set in the preferences of FastRawViewer ). You can view JPG's as well. It is about $30 CAN

I've been experimenting with a new G-Code viewer, with the goal of removing the rather low limit on the size of files the current viewer can handle. It seemed like an interesting and fun challenge to handle very large and complex G-Code files in the browser efficiently.

It's still a very rough prototype, but in general it can display very large G-Code files in the browser with pretty low memory usage. I haven't managed to slice a file I couldn't display so far, the largest one I successfully loaded in the browser was around 1 GB. Memory usage is typically around 40-60% of the G-Code file size.

There is no progress bar or any feedback yet while loading, but it's quite fast and unless you load a very large file it should be finished in a few seconds. I got a bit sidetracked trying to make the parser fast, so while the viewer is seriously lacking in features, it makes up for that by being very fast in loading G-Code.

There are a lot of limitations right now, it only handles a subset of G-Code commands, but enough to display the stuff I've tried. I've tested it mostly with files slices by Slic3r PE so far. On Firefox you have to reload the page to load a new file if you have one loaded already, I didn't get the drag events right yet there. And you can only change the linewidth right now, I want to add more display parameters to this. Drawing is much faster on Firefox for some reason on my computer, I'm not yet sure if this is a general issue or not.

Really nice, and works very smooth. Nice and simple interface. Once you do get to a point, you should definitely look at integrating it within the OctoPrint gcode viewer viewModel. Any plans on supporting 3D view?

We were given some old hardware design files by a customer for redevelopment. The files came in the form of .dsn and zipped files. I tried the Allegro Free Physical/MCM Viewer and got the following errors:

Suspecting these could be OrCad Capture files, I then tried the free OrCad ViewReader which turned out to be a translater rather than a viewer. The latest attempt was to download an OrCad 16.6 Demo Software and see if that's any good but apparently it takes time.

*.dsn could be either an OrCAD Capture schematic design or an Allegro Specctra Router design file (also *.dsn). More that likely it will be the first. The netlist files pstchip.dat, pstxnet.dat and pstxprt.dat can all be opened with a text editor. If you also have *.brd then this is the actual board file that you can open with the free viewer or the demo software.
