Exodus is known for their overpowering live performances. They have stacks of Marshall amps on stage blaring rapid speed guitar riffs, and power chords. Tom Hunting brutally pounds away on his drums, never holding back on the double bass that has a sound with a volume that hits you right in the gut. Gary Holt and Lee Altus have great dynamics with their guitar playing. They often play atonal guitar scales in unison to create an edgy sound. Lead singer, Steve Souza, sings his vocals like a roaring lion delivering a fierce growl. He prowls around stage and bellows his intense vocals into the audience and incites them to act crazy.

Having clocked up over 1000 live appearances since they formed in 1980, there is no doubt Californian metal outfit Exodus are one of the most highly talented and in tune live bands on the circuit. Although fans have had to deal with numerous hiatuses over the years, people who have followed the band from the very beginning continue to attend the tours due to the high quality of the live performance.

I went to see Exodus as part of the Bay Strikes Back tour. I can honestly say this was one of the best shows I've ever been to. I've been a fan of Exodus since the 80's but this is the first time I've ever seen them live. They were absolutely awesome, such energy and enthusiasm on stage, every member putting in 100%. Steve Zetro Souza is such a dynamic frontman and superb vocalist who engaged with the crowd constantly, from the multiple crowdsurfers to me and my son when he addressed us personally from the stage, much to our delight! And it was fantastic to see Mr Gary Holt back with the band, he was truly magnificent! Great set list which included more recent material such as Blood in Blood out and Body Harvest to the classics such as Bonded by Blood, Fabulous Disaster and of course the iconic The Toxic Waltz which whipped the audience up into a frenzy! The whole experience for us was unparalleled, and we very much look forward to Exodus returning to the UK in the hopefully not too distant future for another epic show!!!

Tom Hunting, Kirk Hammett and Gary Holt founded EXODUS in 1982, shortly after selecting an appropriate singer the band, Paul Baloff, who completed the line up perfectly and bringing the dream to fruition. Within the following year EXODUS gained huge attention in the international underground scene, evolving from an insiders' tip of the tape trading community to a highly popular act. Innovative song writing and explosive live shows made the difference, EXODUS brought Bay Area Thrash to the world and inspired many bands, among them METALLICA, TESTAMENT, DEATH ANGEL and VIOLENCE (respectively MACHINE HEAD). In 1983 Kirk Hammet left the band to join METALLICA, and was replaced by Rick Hunolt, and soon after Rob McKillop complimented mix.

The line-up and chemistry was working for the creativity and the subsequent success of the band. With the studio records like; "Fabulous Disaster", "Impact Is Imminent" and "Force Of Habit" as well as the live album "Good Friendly Violent Fun" and the compilation "Lessons In Violence" EXODUS kept on improving their style and promoted their music with a large number of gigs including tours with PANTERA, ANTHRAX, MOTRHEAD, BLACK SABBATH, METALLICA, MEGADETH and many others.

1992 saw the split of EXODUS, affected by stress and personal problems. A short reunion happened 1996 (with their "old" singer Paul Baloff) with a tour through Europe and North America and the release of the second live record "Another Lesson In Violence". Another break took place until September 2001 when EXODUS attended the "Thrash Of The Titans" benefit show featuring LEGACY, ANTHRAX, S.O.D. and DEATH ANGEL. Afterwards the band started writing new material but got adjourned abruptly: Paul Baloff suffered a stroke on 2nd February 2002 and passed away. Back with Souza at the microphone EXODUS continued working and finally finished the recording sessions for the new, ultimate comeback album "Tempo Of The Damned" in 2003. The latest EXODUS album "Shovel Headed Kill Machine" was released on October 4th 2005 and this was definitely be THE THRASH album of the year 2005!!!

Holt and Hunting reunited with Paul Baloff and Rick Hunolt for a short Exodus tour in 1997. The lineup was completed with Wardance bassist Jack Gibson. They released a live album titled Another Lesson in Violence recorded at the Trocadero Transfer in front of a home town audience. However, the group disbanded again the following year, in part due to a falling out with record label Century Media over the way promotion for the live album was handled, and over an aborted attempt at a live concert video which was filmed, but never released due to a financial dispute.

However, on February 2, 2002, Paul Baloff died after suffering a stroke. Former vocalist Steve "Zetro" Souza was brought back into the band to finish the rest of their concert commitments. Although it appeared to outsiders that with Baloff's death Exodus would cease to exist, guitarist Gary Holt was determined to release a new studio album. The result was 2004's Tempo of the Damned released on Nuclear Blast Records. An oddity of the recording sessions was that one track, "Crime of the Century", was dropped under mysterious circumstances. The song chronicled Exodus' time under Century Media (of which Nuclear Blast is a subsidiary). Although it was publicly denied, rumors swirled that Century Media forced the song off the record. "Crime of the Century" was replaced with "Impaler", a song which was written when Kirk Hammett was still in the band, and was previously featured on the Another Lesson in Violence live record. Despite selling fewer than 15,000 copies in its first year of release,[32] Tempo of the Damned received generally positive reviews from fans and critics alike, and is now considered to be an important part of the 2000s thrash metal revival movement. Throughout 2004, Exodus toured worldwide in support of the album.[33][34]

On June 8, 2014, Exodus announced that vocalist Rob Dukes had left the band,[48] and was replaced by Steve "Zetro" Souza, making this the second time he had rejoined the band.[48] Souza stepped in to record vocals for the new album, the first to feature him since 2004's Tempo of the Damned.[49][50] The bands tenth studio album Blood In, Blood Out,[51] was released on October 14, 2014.[52] Original guitarist and founding member Kirk Hammett made a guest appearance on the song "Salt the Wound", marking his first recording with Exodus since the 1982 demo. The album received positive reviews from music critics upon its release, and peaked at No. 38 on the Billboard 200, making it the band's highest chart position to that point.[53] Heathen guitarist Kragen Lum was brought in to replace Gary Holt for several live dates while Holt performed and recorded with Slayer.[54] Exodus toured throughout 2015 in support of Blood In, Blood Out, performing at that year's edition of Australian Soundwave Festival, which was held across two weekends,[55] and along with Shattered Sun, they supported Testament on their Dark Roots of Thrash II tour in the spring.[56] Exodus then toured around Europe in June, including two nights at the Underworld in London.
