Well the problem is in the battery saving mode. Android have different rights on different devices and system versions, it's a mess and therefore on some phones it's enough to turn on and off the battery saving mode and boom: eset parental control eset mobile security but also Kaspersky is off. If I'm correct, I can install old android without these great but maybe TOO powerful features . Is it possible to make warning window: "Please turn on the parental control" indestructible by disabling back and other system buttons? Like you are really forced to turn it on. It should help. And jump immediately.

Second one, on the HUAWEI SNE-LX1, is not working at all. Yesterday, I asked my kid to unlock his phone, to see, why it is not working. And surprisingly, exactly from that moment, Parental control started to work, possible to see used apps and times in the parental dashboard. No idea what happened, or what he switched off or uninstalled. He does not want to say anything, saying he does not know why it is not working. It is really unbelievable, when it suddenly started to work.

Not really sure if the battery saver is the reason, as yesterday I checked also the settings for the battery saver behavior for individual apps....and for the Parental control app it seems as skipped.....anyway, I will wait for the logs analysis....

I've tried all remote options I could think of (enabling vacation mode, turning off app & web protection) from both PC and phone. Only the latter confirms sync to the device but it still behaves the same. I have painstakingly entered my parental PIN on the device but have been unable to perform any tasks in the app. Also unable to revoke device manager privileges from Parental Control due to the pop-up.

At this point my only option seems to be wiping phone data (factory reset) from the recovery menu. I have cleared the system cache and have applied a MIUI 10 update that was pending, but no change. I have been using Parental Control on my kids' previous devices with no issues. As a matter of fact it's on a fourth device as well, an old Nexus 7 tablet and it works just fine there.

Like several other antivirus-software companies, ESET has dipped its toes into the parental-control market and come up with ESET Parental Control for Android. However, unlike its rivals Norton and Kaspersky, ESET doesn't offer an iOS parental-controls app and instead has focused solely on supporting Android.

Unfortunately, that laser focus hasn't resulted in a finely honed app. A few features performed well, but taken as a whole, ESET Parental Control for Android is lacking in some key areas compared to other best parental control apps and is sorely in need of a refreshed look.

The premium tier is $29.99 per year for an unlimited number of devices. (The ESET website implies that only one device is covered, but we confirmed that that's not the case.) It adds valuable features including a web guard, a child locator, geofencing, safe web searches, parental messages and full reports.

As the name states, ESET Parental Control for Android monitors only Android devices (running 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and later). That's understandable, as Apple strictly limits what any third-party parental-control app can do on an iPhone, and every iOS parental-control app we've reviewed has fewer abilities than its Android counterpart. ESET has said that it does not wish to release an iOS version that does not have parity with Android.

As with most parental-control apps, your first step in installing ESET Parental Control for Android will be setting up an account with the service. You can do this either through the app or at my.eset.com. I prefer the web experience, but the process is equally straightforward on either platform.

That's a pretty good deal compared to many stand-alone parental-control services, which can cost $100 per year for more than five devices. However, Kaspersky Safe Kids, from another antivirus maker, offers a similar unlimited deal for only $14.99 per year.

The Application Guard feature does double duty as the app manager and time manager. (We'll cover the time-management components in a later section.) You can view applications in a list and then give each one a classification of either a thumbs-up, a thumbs-down or a game-controller icon.

This somewhat counterintuitive system actually works just fine, and is quite similar in effect to the one used by the rival OurPact parental-control service. The implementation just doesn't click well with me due to the dated user interface and odd choice of language.

There's just no way to recommend ESET Parental Control unless it comes as a bundle with your ESET antivirus software. There's room in the market for an Android-only option, but the problem is that the ESET Parental Control for Android isn't even close to the best Android parental-control service available, Norton Family Premier.

The parental controls world is crammed with small companies making huge promises, often with little to back them up. If you're wondering who to trust, opting for a known security firm like ESET (which has been selling antivirus products since 1992) might seem to make a lot of sense. At first, anyway.

Install the Parental Control app on your child's device, and it prompts you to create a simple profile for them: name, age, and an optional photo. Enter a PIN which enables you to change parental control settings on the device, and the app begins to protect you with its default settings.

ESET more than covers the location tracking basics, though, and we're giving it extra credit for accuracy. Some parental control apps are 150 miles out when trying to place one of our test IPs, but ESET Parental Control got it just right.

ESET Parental Control's highlight is its app management, which gives you far more fine-tuned control over app use than most of the competition. You can get much of that in the free version, though, and there's not quite enough here to justify spending any cash.

Amongst other things, parental control software allows parents to filter out websites that their children can see, in order to avoid the children being exposed to materials the parents consider unsuitable, such as pornography, gambling or weapons.

AV-Comparatives provides certification for parental control software. In order to be certified, a product must block at least 98% of pornographic websites, have no more than a few false alarms on child-friendly websites, and have no severe unresolved bugs(or design flaws) discovered during the review. A certification is valid for one year and vendors can apply for certification once a year.

We tested the effectiveness of the parental control software against 2,000 websites with potentially inappropriate content for children. We chose the appropriate settings for a 9-year-old girl, which would block sites relating to pornography, gambling and weapons.

ESET Parental Control for Android provides a very wide range of website categories that can be monitored and/or blocked, and allows parents to effectively control which apps their children use and at what times. We liked the SOS message feature, and the very child-friendly messages shown on the screen that explain what the program is doing.

For each device, I have set up and use the built in parental settings that come free and included with each. iOS Screen Time, Android Google Family Link, Windows Microsoft Family, PS4 settings, and then some individual parent settings on apps & services such as Netflix, Prime, etc.

Taking up this topic that, as a parent, I consider fundamental, I would like to share my opinion on it. One problem that we, as parents, face is managing the screen time of our children for games and online platforms. Each platform uses its own parental control system, and it is very complicated to manage the screen time for each one of them. For example, if we define 2 hours of screen time per day, and that time can be diversified among PlayStation, Nintendo, and YouTube, it is not possible to define those 2 hours jointly. It would be wonderfull to create an add-on or integration that allows connection to different platforms with the aim of making a joint follow-up and generating automations accordingly. With a notification when the joint 2-hour limit is exceeded on any platform for each child and their linked accounts, it would be a great first step.

They may be competitors, but all the parental control apps we've reviewed at PCMag agree on one thing: You must save your kids from the Internet. With these services, parents can protect their children from online unpleasantness wherever youngsters browse the Web. And mobile versions of these programs include extra features tailored for the platform. ESET Parental Control for Android is a solid solution for families, though it lacks call and text blocking.

An annual subscription to ESET Parental Control for Android costs $29.99 per year. This looks more expensive than the other standalone Android parental control app, Net Nanny, but Net Nanny's $12.99 per year just covers a single device. A five-device (cross-platform) Net Nanny license lists for $74.99. ESET truly is more expensive than Kaspersky, though, as Kaspersky offers unlimited installations for $14.99 per year.

When the child tries to visit a blocked site, the browser displays the simple message, "This site is not right for us. Let's try something else!" Other products, Norton among them, offer a more specific explanation of what triggered the block. There's a button at the bottom to request parental permission for access to the blocked site.
