Book cover design involves creating the front and back cover for a book, including all the visual and textual elements. This encompasses the book's title, author's name, imagery, color schemes, typography, and any additional information such as endorsements or taglines. The importance of a book cover design cannot be overstated as it's the first thing a potential reader sees. A well-designed book cover can catch the reader's attention, convey the mood and theme of the book, and influence the reader's decision to purchase the book.

To start the book cover design process, you would first need to have a clear understanding of your book's content, genre, and target audience. This will guide the design's direction. You should then prepare a creative brief that outlines your design preferences, any specific imagery or colors you wish to incorporate, and any other design elements that are important to you. After that, you can reach out to our talented freelancers on Fiverr who specialize in book cover design to discuss your project and get started.

Yes, you can certainly provide your own images or graphics to be used in the book cover design. Our freelancers are typically happy to incorporate your provided materials as long as they meet the necessary quality and resolution requirements. However, it's important to ensure you have the necessary rights or permissions to use these images or graphics, particularly if they're not your own original work.

The timeline for designing a book cover can vary greatly depending on the complexity of the design, the designer's schedule, and your own responsiveness to design revisions. On average, a book cover design project could take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. However, this timeline can be discussed and agreed upon with your chosen freelancer at the outset of the project.

These covers (which are dated 1904, 1903, 1904, 1886, 1915) are much more minimalistic and often better suited for ebooks than many of the modern style covers. Sometimes less is more and so on. Bold colours grab attention. Simple and eye catching is a good theme for an ebook cover so you can also try looking at some vintage advertisements for inspiration. Now I might just be using this as an excuse to post some pictures from my postcard collection (I collect postcards with vintage advertising just so you know) but I digress. I think the often stylised composition and limited colour palette is very suitable for ebook covers.

When you assign an ebook cover image in Vellum, you will receive feedback about whether it meets the requirements of online stores. Vellum will include this image in your ebooks and provide you with a marketing image to upload along with your ebook.

A cover image that does not meet requirements can be rejected by a store. If your image is too small, you will want to create a larger one or contact your cover designer. (Simply resizing the image to be larger is not recommended, as it can result in a blurry image.)

The Ebook cover that you add to your book will not appear in your print edition, where your interior and wraparound cover are two separate files. You can find more information about creating a cover for your paperback book in Uploading Your Cover.

Some authors do, however, like to include an image of their front cover as an additional title page in their print edition. You can do this by using a Full Page Image element and setting its Include In option to Print Only.

Ebook cover design is all about the proper balance between typography, imagery, and the style they create. An effective cover communicates its genre, caters to the target audience, and of course, rocks a smashing look.

If you're uploading your files, you can review our File Creation Guide for a more detailed list of instructions, or you can create your ebook's cover and interior using IngramSpark's Free Book-Building Tool.

Publication of the ePub file requires the cover to be included in the eBook file and at the same time uploaded separately into the metadata tab, so that it is transmitted to the online libraries and included in the book page. Internal cover and external cover meet more or less the same specifications with the only difference that the external cover, as intended for the online bookshelf, necessarily requires a slightly higher resolution. See below details.

The inner cover must be positioned at the beginning of the file, just as if it were a paper edition, with the difference that the ebook does not include spine and back cover. The minimum size for the inner cover is 600*800 pixels, while it must not exceed 4 megapixels (base x height).

We recommend that you opt for a resolution of 1200*1600 pixels because it allows you to have a better performance on the latest generation readers.

It is the cover that will appear on the book page in online stores and must be loaded separately from the ePub file. Since this is content intended for the virtual shelf of online bookshops, it is recommended for the external cover a size greater than at least 1875*2500 pixels.

SL Write (Premium and Unlimited plans) provides you with a convenient editor for the creation of the cover of the eBook, discover more details here. You can use Write to create your own eBook and use the dedicated editor to prepare your cover.

An eBook cover design needs a proper balance between the images, font style, and layout. An adequate cover reflects its genre, caters to the target audience, and, more importantly, rocks a smashing look. It means that coming up with ideas for a cover is not rocket science. More importantly, it requires a thorough understanding of imagery, color, and typography.

Generally, choosing a proper color palette that evokes the emotion of your eBook cover is good. You can talk to your designer or research what color scheme matches your genre or theme. Likewise, look at your competitors and observe what color choices work and which fail.

The designer can help you make important decisions regarding page size, cover art, and image size. On the other hand, you should try to procure more knowledge about eBook cover sizes if you are self-publishing.

If you plan to publish your eBook on different platforms or another platform that is not listed above, you can use the standard ebook cover size. It is not very practical to create different file sizes for different platforms.

Kindle is probably one of the most common devices in the eBook category. Kindle Direct Publishing is an Amazon platform that lets you self-publish eBooks. The recommended eBook cover size for kindles is 25601600 pixels.

Kobo is another popular e-reader. For all the would-be authors, Kobo recommends keeping the eBook cover dimensions to the standard sizing. The best file size for Kobo eBooks is 1448 x 1072 resolution.

If you are making an audiobook, the eBook cover size will differ significantly when you publish an eBook. Audiobooks cover sizes follow a ratio of 1:1. Also, to use this 1:1 ratio, we suggest that you keep the resolution to 32003200.

There are two specific ways you can get your eBook cover created. Firstly, you can launch your own contest and have designers send in submissions and pick the best of them all. Secondly, you can employ a graphic designer to create your designer one-on-one to create your cover!

I would still like Adobe to clarify this further, as although the Terms and Conditions seem to imply that it is okay to use a stock photo on a book/e-book cover which may sell over 500,000 copies on an Extended License (and I'm not a lawyer, so my interpretation of the legal jargon could be incorrect), the language in the original article (Use of images on book/e-book covers) I posted seems to specifically exclude any mention of the Extended License when it comes to book/e-book covers, but just gives a generalized statement that Adobe Stock Photos cannot be used on more than 500,000 copies regardless of type of license.

Adobe Stock pictures can be used for a book cover and extended license allows you to create products for resale provided you follow all the legal terms and restrictions as given in _Stock_Terms-en_US-20170630_2200.pdf

4. If the print/eBook cover is considered an "editorial context," is it sufficient to credit Adobe Stock Photo on the book seller webpage, and in the book's "Acknowledgements" section, like so: " [Photographer's name] /Adobe Stock"?
