For stakeholders who only need file-viewing access, we offer free viewers without a subscription. If you're transitioning to named user, be sure to take advantage of the trade-in offers available to you.

I had hopes for the DWF viewer Autodesk gave us, but apparently support for the progam was dropped after Revit 2013. The navigation in the A360 Viewer is not intuitive enough for the older staff I am supporting and I do not see markup capabilities. What are we to use to create DWF markups now? I would even appreciate such a program for a small desktop subscription cost.

We have Revit licenses, so can install Revit and then adjust the icon to be in Viewer mode. This does not use a license. If you have a copy of Revit (use the 30 day trial), you should be able to install it, then adjust the icon with a switch to run as viewer mode. Here is a link on how to set that up. I'm not positive that it will work with the trial of Revit, but I believe it does and the link above does as well.

Starting Revit in viewermode does not need a license, but it's not a complete viewer as we know from other CAD programs because if you doing any changes in the model like creating a section for orientation wthin the model, the printing functionality will be deactivatet. So if there is no prepared section view for the projectmanager he only can make a screenshot an print it by Microsoft Word. I understand the deactivation of saving the project, but not for the printing functionality

Still, there's room for improvement: those options should be completely hidden from the user (in Viewer mode) since it shouldn't matter (in theory). You should be able to just "open" a file (as read only - since it's a viewer) and not have any hassles with permissions. Also, I would prefer to not have people getting into the habit of opening the central file directly, JIC I train them to model later. And it would be nice if instead of restricting printing, Revit just restricted modeling (i.e. you can cut sections & print, but not create new beams, etc.).

It would really be nice to have a low-cost (free?) viewer that would allow non-REVIT users to open the current file and print drawings, or see (and measure) the 3D model. I work at a firm where only a handful of us use REVIT and everyone else is still in AutoCAD. The complaint I get all the time is we are a bottleneck because only we can access our drawings.

I cannot consider BIM360 a solution to the viewer problem as many of our clients restrict us from copying their data to platforms outside of Europe. Starting up Revit itself as a viewer is also hardly a treat. Also others might thrive with a viewer that would run on non windows machines like Mac, iOS, gaming consoles, Android etc.

I feel I need to add onto this now that BIM Collaborate Pro is becoming more prevalent. The standard RVT viewer will only open BCP models when that user has a BCP license. This kind of defeats the purpose of viewing capabilities.

Autodesk FBX Review is a lightweight, standalone software tool for reviewing 3D assets and animations quickly and efficiently. FBX Review enables users to view 3D content without using a 3D authoring tool, to help speed up asset sharing and iteration. More at www.autodesk.com/products/fbx/fbx-review

My use case was to simply check several version of a rig without having to open maya which is slow. This viewer does not show skeleton, or skin weights nor does it has a outliner view of the scene (e.g. showing the hierarchy of bones). So this does not allow me to distinguish various rigs. For a viewer it feels quite incomplete and should show more informations present in the scene IMHO, at the very list textual description would be welcomed.

we were working, and thought to check for update to V1.2.3.. and found 64Bit v1.4.However, now the system refuses to allow FBX files to be opened into the FBXReviewer tool as MotionBuilder opens instead. **Why would MotionBuilder open when FBXReview is set to open the format ??**- Please correct this and release v1.41

One of the best things about this tool is that it is very quick compared to the software Autodesk released in the past. FBX converter was the next best thing - it looks like this is what we'll be using going forward! Hopefully they deploy this with Max, Maya, MotionBuilder and Mudbox going forward. There's a substantially lacking feature though. If you're an animator, particularly for games, and only want to export the skeletal animation - you cannot preview that alone. Only if there is a skinned mesh in the scene will FBX review show you the skeleton drawn over the mesh. I don't understand why the skeleton cannot be displayed if that's all there is in the scene. I tried exporting a hierarchy, yet I was left with an empty FBX reviewer. The timeline was appropriate in length, though.

Any advice, suggestions etc welcome. on what FREE and SAFE reader prog to have them install, either for an obj viewer (is that the best format for exporting a model and a reader to view it ?) or a Rhino reader.

The online 3D viewer opened the obj no problem (so its happy beyond 35Mb) but it was in grey mode and no images mapped to it, I tried the missing files section, I browsed to the jpg but that was not what it was after, saying no importable file found and listing 3D model types only.

Note A, metashape doesnt provide a dimension function unless I havent spotted it, so measuring failed in this viewer, however if I were to scale it then export it from Rhino, that would solve that , would it ?

Hi Joseph.

I had noticed sketchfab but with accounts and $$$ and being unable to find out anything as there is no easy email thing to use, I moved on.

It would appear I have to upload the fbx file or is it that the client takes it from the email sent him and does a file>open and browses to it as per normal viewers ?

If I upload it is it passworded so just my client can view it ? I dont want everyone seeing it.

Does it have ortho views ?

Can he get measurements from it ?

We are starting work on a new job in which we have been given access to the .RVT file via an FTP site. We have also apparently been told (I'm at the end of a long string of "he told me so") that we can just "open the RVT file with a viewer."

I have DesignReview 2011 (freshly upgraded from 2010) neither of which will open a .rvt file. I have tried opening it with the Navisworks Freedom viewer, which was also implied to be able to work, with no joy. The AutoDesk web site : =14185260&siteID=123112 does not even mention Revit files.

Autodesk DWG TrueView is a free multimedia software that allows users to view AutoCAD and other DWG files. Because DWG TrueView is just a viewer, you cannot use it to alter a drawing. You can, however, measure and print your drawings and convert DWG files between AutoCAD formats. It is particularly useful for architects, engineers, and construction professionals.

The Autodesk DWG TrueView app is a free stand-alone DWG viewer. It is built on the same platform as AutoCAD, an industry-standard, paid-for computer-aided design (CAD) and drafting software application. DWG TrueView allows you to view the latest DWG, DWF, and DXF file formats, just as you would in AutoCAD, but without paying a license fee.

Alternatives to Autodesk DWG Trueview include DWG viewers AutoCAD Drawing Viewer, DWG Fastview, and Draftsight, which are all very user friendly. DWG DXF Converter allows users to convert DWG to DXF files.

You can enhance DWG TrueView's capabilities by adding Design Review, another Autodesk product. This add-on extends the feature set of the DWG viewer by letting you view, mark up, print, and track changes to 2D and 3D files for free. It's particularly useful in a collaborative setting as it allows you to add comments, information, and other files.

We are a construction software startup company based in Australia looking for a talented ThreeJS developer to build add-ons on top of the Autodesk Viewer. The viewer will be used within our estimating platform and provide the end users functionality to perform quantity take-offs, saving viewer states, performing markups and much more.

Leica TruView is a portable software that allows users to open and view the .LGS format of the point cloud, as well as other overlay .IFC (3D model) files. Leica TruView was previously referred to as JetStream. Autodesk also has a viewer called TrueView which is used for viewing AutoCAD and .DWG files.

Autodesk Viewer allows users to easily view and share AutoCAD and DWG files in a browser rather than download software. It is only a viewer, it cannot be used to alter a file, but to inspect designs, create screenshots for presentations, and measure components. Files viewed in Autodesk Viewer can be shared via URL, this comes in handy when working with someone who does not have Autodesk programs installed on their computer. Autodesk Viewer supports most 2D and 3D files, including DWG, STEP, DWF, RVT, and Solidworks, and works with over 80 file types. 2351a5e196
