As you can see, Supergoop's sunscreen was more of a yellow, mucus-y color than the TJ's dupe. If you've ever used a silicone makeup primer, that's pretty much how both sunscreens feel on the skin. However, I do think the TJ's dupe was a bit thicker than the Supergoop product.

Like I mentioned earlier, the TJ's dupe felt a bit thicker than the Supergoop sunscreen. However, I would say that once rubbed in, they had the same light feel on the skin. The Supergoop one I noticed does feel a bit oily to the touch, but once the product is soaked into your face, it doesn't feel like there is anything there. Neither of the sunscreens left a white cast or smelled like anything, so they're tied in those aspects.

While I very badly wanted to love the Trader Joe's dupe (would save me so much money), I do think I like the Supergoop one just a bit more and would be willing to pay the extra $27. However, that's not to say that the Trader Joe's sunscreen was bad. I think if you have dry skin, this could be worth trying out, because $9 for a 40 SPF sunscreen is a STEAL!

What constitutes a dupe can differ from contest to contest and event to event. For instance, POTA treats any differences between band, mode, park number, and UTC day as different contacts. If they all match, including the park (if there is one), then it is a dupe.

The way I read the rules, the CQ WW SSB contest recommends you submit your duplicates anyway to ensure the other party gets credit. So this may only matter if you are trying to avoid dupes to be efficient or avoid annoying the other party.

Oh how we love all the beautiful Christmas pieces that Anthropologie has but, sometimes they are not always budget-friendly. This year, an adorable bottle brush tree wreath kept coming up when I was looking for Christmas decor. The only problem was that it was $200. This was the perfect Christmas piece to do a DIY dupe.

This Anthropologie dupe wreath is so easy to make and depending on what items you select for your wreath, it will cost less than $35. There are so many ways to make this wreath using your unique creative flare.

Sixty-one percent of Gen Zers said they used TikTok most often to find dupes, according to a survey of 3,000 millennial and GenZ consumers from the US, the UK, and Italy conducted by the consumer-review platform Trustpilot.

Lin, the TikToker, mostly shops for dupes on Amazon, she said. "In the search bar, you can type in 'Aritzia dupe,' 'Lululemon dupe,' and then the top brands that make those dupes will show up, and they're usually really highly rated," she said.

"This target audience views dupes as a badge of honor and so they intentionally buy the dupes, but they also mix them with name brands," Jacqueline Babb, a marketing professor at Northwestern University, said. "I don't think it's an economic decision. I think it's an intentional kind of curation."

Saving money is the No. 1 reason people buy these products. Morning Consult's survey found that 49% of these shoppers reported an annual household income of under $50,000, and 67% of those consumers said saving money was a major factor when considering buying a dupe.

"For the most part, the type of people who buy a dupe are not the same people that want the name brand," she said. "Somebody who really wants Uggs wants Uggs because they want the Ugg name on their foot and not because they want a shearling boot with the plush inside."

Take E.l.f. Cosmetics, which launched in 2004. It started selling cheaper versions of popular beauty products long before it became a go-to dupe brand on TikTok. Today, several videos compare E.l.f.'s products to more expensive brands. For example, a Charlotte Tilbury blush wand costs $42, while a similar one from E.l.f. costs $9.

The demand for dupes has also spawned new brands like Quince. The online fashion retailer markets itself as an affordable, sustainable alternative to luxury brands by producing garments in many of the same factories as its competitors. For example, it sells a nearly identical version of Dagne Dover's neoprene backpack for $99, compared to $195. Quince also sells a tiered maxi dress for $130 that closely resembles Anthropologie's $220 Somerset maxi dress.

Some brands have been able to shrug off duping or use it to their advantage. Take Lululemon's "dupe swap" or the hair-care brand Olaplex using influencers to market a fake product called OlaDup. These moves likely didn't convert dupe shoppers but propped up their loyal customer base.

Lululemon align legging dupe swap at Westfield Century City. Waited over 6 hours for a free pair of leggings. How long would you wait for free Lululemon leggings? #lululemon #lululemonhaul #lululemonleggins #lululemonleggingsarebetter #lululemonhack #freethingstodoinlosangeles #cheapthingstodoinla #losangelescalifornia #losangelesgirl #losangeleslife #westfieldcenturycity #aligndupeswap #aligndupe

"I think the dupe people are not Lululemon's market," Babb said. "I don't think they ever will be. So if you're Lululemon, what you're really trying to capitalize on is the buzz around leggings for your target audience."

"The dupe is a good gateway to see if you like the product," she said. said. "Or if you think it's going to go out of style or you won't like it in a year, then a dupe is a more financially responsible choice to make."

But even on sale, they were a bit of an investment. I had seen several budget-friendly bunnies in stores lately. So, instead of splurging on more Pottery Barn bunnies, I decided to save some money and make a DIY dupe of the PB original.

In the realm of fragrance dupes, ALT. Fragrances' Crystal stands head and shoulders above the rest. From the moment I uncapped the bottle, I was instantly transported by its uncanny resemblance to the coveted Baccarat Rouge 540. The intoxicating blend of amber, cedar, and ethereal jasmine has been captured with impressive precision. Yet, while it harkens to the luxury of its muse, Crystal carves its own unique identity with subtle nuances that make it special in its own right.

For those, like myself, who love Baccarat Rouge 540 but are daunted by its price tag, ALT. Fragrances' Crystal is not just a dupe but a revelation. Highly recommend to both aficionados and novices alike. The world of premium fragrances has just become a little more inclusive.

Love this purfume, and the fact that it is 100% clean gets my vote. Despite the fact that I had to wait almost 6 weeks for shipping it was still worth the wait. It is a very good dupe for MFK's BR540. ??

Overall, when it comes to dupe culture, there is clearly a battle of accessibility vs. accountability. It can be argued that it is elitist to assume people can afford designer clothes or always shop ethically, whereas others would argue that the sustainability concerns outweigh the argument of accessibility.

Sierra was scrolling through her For You page in January when she came across a seven-second clip of a woman unpacking the spoils of a recent Target order: two large boxes of store-brand toilet paper. "It is the best dupe for Charmin toilet paper," the narrator declares in a voiceover.

Sierra, who works in marketing but uses TikTok for fun, had noticed more and more videos about dupes on the app lately, but found the seven-second clip "outrageous": Why are we romanticizing generic versions of everyday household items that have been around forever? So she decided to stitch it.

While Sierra didn't go into her video with the intention of going viral, "it makes sense to me that it resonated with people," she said. "I know I'm not the only person who's thinking like, 'OK, this word [dupe] is kind of overused now.'"

TikTok's dupe recommendation renaissance has also given rise to a new meme on social media, where users ironically liken two different entities in the vein of "it's giving" or "big [blank] energy." Antidepressants? Serotonin dupe. Matty Healy in a silk shirt? Harry Styles dupe. Painted-over window in your bathroom that leads to a hidden room? Coraline dupe! The dupe mindset is real and pervasive. 006ab0faaa
