If after BIOS restoration and EC reset, the touchpad is functional in the BIOS/UEFI screen but becomes inoperative upon entering the Windows system, please proceed to the next section to update the BIOS and drivers.

I want to disable the driver for my touchpad. It is called "PS/2 Compatible Mouse". If I go to properties the disable button is grayed out. There is also no option to disable in the context menu if I right click on it in device manager. A attached a screenshot of the issue below. I am using Windows 8 but I'm guessing the issue would be the same in Windows 7.

Click right mouse button to "PS/2 Compatible Mouse" > choose update driver > driver from your computer (not automatically) > choose driver from list > unclick "Show compatible hardware"...and choose another type (I chose mouse from Acer - API USB). Your touchpad will be disabled after restart of your computer. Then (for sure) click on disable driver in your device manager.

Also, some laptops and tablets with keyboards have added gesture features to the touchpad hardware and drivers. A few of these features are two or three-finger scrolling, pinch zoom, circle zoom, rotate, and swiping. These new features may be the reason for the erratic cursor movement since most are turned on by default. You can disable or modify the way that the features work in the touchpad driver properties.

Ensure that the latest driver for the touchpad is installed (see notes below). You may need to use an external USB or Bluetooth mouse. For more information, see Dell Knowledge Base article How to Download and Install Dell Drivers.

HELP!!! My touchpad has stopped working and it looks like I have to install a new driver for the HID touchpad (because there isn't a driver visible)....but my operating system is Windows 11 and my laptop doesn't support Windows 11 (despite Windows suggesting the OS upgrade and allowing it to occur!)

Is there a way I can download a Windows 11 HID touchpad driver that will be compatible with my laptop?

Note: my device is an HP Pavillion x360 Convertible 14-dh0xxx

If your Samsung PC's touchpad is not working, it may simply be locked or disabled. There is an easy way to unlock it and get the touchpad working again. If that doesn't do the trick, resetting the driver or installing updates could help. If all else fails, try a factory reset.

I have been experiencing the same issue. I have TWO laptops Asus Notebook UX306U. Both started to have the issue mid-July 2018, I believe after a windows 10 update. I have tried everything from updating all drivers, BIOS, etc. to factory reset, and still the problem persists.

Thanks @jayeff, finally I fixed the problem by finding a more up to date driver for the touchpad than the one given by asus.com or tech support. It's ridiculous that the driver they offer is obsolete. They gave me v06 when v25 is out...

Great solution. Worked for me! I tried downloading a driver and that did not work. I just followed your BIOS toggle method, and it worked for me! Easy fix. When I first checked the BIOS, it indicated the INternal Pointing Device was Enabled, So I disabled it and restarted. Then I went through the reboot and changed the BIOS the second time to Enabled, and when I restarted my laptop the pointing touchpad worked! You are great!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for your post.

1. Turn off the notebook/laptop.

2. Remove the docking station and disconnect all the connected devices.

3. Detach the AC adapter if connected, followed by removing the laptop battery.

4. Now, press and hold the power button for approximately 15 seconds. This will drain all the charging from the battery.

5. Put the battery back and connect the AC adapter.

6. Turn on the notebook.

7. If you see a startup menu with a list of options select Start Windows Normally and press Enter.

8. Reconnect all the devices and check for Windows Update.

9. Once, it is done update drivers, either using Advanced Driver Updater or can use the HP Assistant.

This should do the trick and the Touchpad should start working.

Among other causes reported by users whose touchpad stopped working, outdated or incompatible device drivers are the most common. Driver-related issues can result from corrupt or missing system files or recent system updates.

There are times when different software components, including drivers, system services, and third-party applications clash to cause various problems. These software conflicts can disrupt the communication between the operating system and your touchpad, causing it to stop working.

The touchpad driver is the main go-between that allows Windows and the touchpad to interact. If it is faulty, missing, or corrupt, your operating system will not recognize the device, causing it to malfunction or stop working.

Using Auslogics Driver Updater to update your touchpad driver is a preferable method. Besides overriding the hassles associated with manual upgrades, you can use the software to update all your device drivers in one click.

The conflict may lead to the OS not communicating with the touchpad as it should. So, if you started noticing the problem after installing an update, application, or driver, consider restoring your computer.

If your laptop cursor suddenly disappeared, you can fix the problem by disabling and re-enabling your touchpad, restarting your PC, updating Windows, and fixing driver-related problems. You can also check for software conflicts and run your antivirus to get rid of malware.

Drivers are the backbone of your system. Even your touchpad has a driver to assist its functionality, meaning that if this driver is damaged or outdated, it might cause issues. To fix the two finger scroll not working in Windows 10, you need to update your touchpad drivers.

Drivers allow your operating system to talk with and understand your peripherals and other hardware components. If a device driver fails to function properly, you will experience issues with the affected hardware, such as your mouse, keyboard, or touchpad.

Recently, several users reported that their touchpad driver doesn't work after upgrading to the latest Windows version. The issue can be caused by several reasons, such as minor glitches within the system and incompatible drivers.

Hopefully, this will help you fix the touchpad driver issue. Alternatively, if you do not have an updated driver version on your computer already, you can head over to the manufacturer's official website and download the latest version from there.
