North Sails is proud to be a leading sailmaker for the Dragon class, offering a range of high-performance sails that are optimized for the unique demands of this classic racing yacht. With a heritage dating back to the 1920s, the Dragon class is known for its fast-paced, highly competitive racing, and our sails are designed to help you stay ahead of the pack.

The Dragon was designed by Johan Anker in 1929. The original design had two berths and was ideally suited for cruising in his home waters of Norway. The boat quickly attracted owners and within ten years, it had spread all over the world. To order Dragon sails, please contact one of the class experts.

Doyle Sails Florian Raudaschl develops Dragon sails together with Christian Scheinecker ("Scheini"). As a European and national champion, Scheini knows the sensitive trim very well and was able to win the Austrian best list several times, he placed in a top field at the Kieler Woche with a 3rd place on the Potest.

The heavy jib is designed similarly to the AP jib but constructed with a heavier material. The sails are stronger giving them greater durability and shape-holding qualities in windy conditions making it easier to trim.

Unfortunately... New Sail Orders are currently taking about 109 days to get shipped out!

New orders will be delivered around  4/15/2024  or as soon as possible in the order received. I greatly apologize for this long lead time, but I work full time for The Sailors' Tailor, then come home to a wife and two boys. I am working as many hours as I can in the evenings to get new orders out, but just so many people have ordered recently... that I am totally booked up. It is only after everyone else goes to bed and on weekends I can make sails... This is a side hobby for me, not my full time business.

If you are in a bind, and need your sails ASAP... then you can buy this RUSH Service to get your sails shipped in 10 days or less - fees applies Order Rush Delivery

I am playing my first playthrough, and had purchased the Dragonwing Sails, then removed them to my inventory to equip other sails with every intention to hold on to the Dragonwing Sails only to find they have disappeared from my inventory, rendering me incapable of completing the game. :/

Please don't take this the wrong way - but are you are sure you are searching in the correct inventory? There are seperate inventories for the normal game items, food and ship items. The inventory for the ship items can be filtered by the type of item (cannons, sails, hull and so on). Maybe you have a filter anabled (like: display cannons only) that prevents you from seeing the sails?

Ahoy, captain! Are you ready for the great sea battles? Sail into the heart of the Caribbean and battle other battleships in the open sea! Explore an uncharted world, upgrade your flagships, and become the king of sails!

From the factory, the DF 65 comes with an A rig. Smaller and larger rigs are available made from different materials. Since I first wrote this post in 2017 I bought a set of A+ sails from Sochsails which have become my favourite rig set.

Third-party sails are available in different materials. My A+ set is mylar which is a lighter less tough material than the stock sails. There are some pros and cons here worth bearing in mind; mylar film is lighter and more responsive in light winds e.g. the sails will flip across more readily when tacking, is louder when luffing which provides better audible cues to know what the boat is doing, but the material is more sensitive to hard objects such as finger nails, or dents.

The Best Shapes and the Best Materials

As both of us have raced most of our adult lives, we are in a very strong position to be able to meet your racing needs. Whether you need club or competition sails we are here to help you. We will advise you on the best available materials to meet your particular type of racing together with advice on the best shapes to use to suit your rig type and setup. We use the highest quality materials possible to ensure a long lasting sail that can cope with the harshest of conditions.

Computer Designed and Laser Cut

Each sail is individually tailored to your boat, computer designed, laser cut and hand finished. Seams are sewn with two rows of three step stitching. By hand finishing the sails we can achieve a high quality end product, with the laser cutting giving us repeatability with a panel cutting tolerance of less than 1/10th mm. Battens, sail bags, sail numbers and insignia are all included in the price as standard. We can arrange for Dargon sails to be officially measured and signed with the correct class labels at an extra charge.

Everything you'd expect and that little bit extra

We pay particular attention to the detail and finishing of our sails. A long tail is left on the bolt rope in case of shrinkage. Cringles and pulleys are all finished by hand. Should the worst come to the worst, we're able to quickly and efficiently repair your sails at our loft. We can help you get the most out of your boat- ask us for specialist advice in setting up the rig and sails so you achieve the best! Lonton and Gray design sails that are easy to set so that the crew can concentrate on the tactics. Ian is himself a keen Dragon sailor, and as such is completely in touch with the needs of the class. He is always improving the design and finish, and races regularly throughout the season. Please feel free to contact Ian to discuss your requirements.

Engineered to suit you and your Dragon

At Lonton and Gray, we realise that one sail doesn't 'fit all', so we have developed sails for differing crew weights. If you have you own idea for a sail design, please contact us to discuss it further.

Hi

I know it's only a aesthetic thing but I like very much these compact sails, although I've never had one. They look smaller, they are lighter with shorter masts. It seems you need more simple equipment to get going, similar to winging. I think it's also good for the sport to look like this.

I would prefer 4 battens models as they usually have wider wind range and they are more all round.

The experience on any of these sails (also Naish chopper) and comparison among them is well appreciated.

I had the HSM QU4D for a couple seasons. They are really nice sails too - very light compact feeling with good range. I found them to pull more from the front then some other compact sails like the old Mauisails Mutant or Naish Chopper. That said, on a whim I tried the 3 batten KS3's & was totally blown away. Dimensionally they are not as compact as the QU4D but they feel very compact due to the very low & forward draft position. The sail just feel like it is on a swivel, & the low forward draft give tremendous wind range & good speed. Oddly the only advantage I could see for the QU4D is that even though it is 4 battens, it has a softer more "springy" feel & higher draft position that some people like. For me the KS is the perfect wave & bump sail: Fast & Rangy but does not like to just lock in & "mow the lawn" like some.

I can't find the right word Borge.........she looks just super superbly fantastic! you knocked this one right out of the ballpark! you are truly a metal master as well! I am so jealous.........you made your "masterpiece"......and I love those sails.......WOW!!!
