The venerable Firefox Plugin "Video Download Helper" has been a mainstay of internet video downloading for years. However since I upgraded to Ubuntu 22.04 it can not ever find the "Companion App" it needs to work.

I found over the weekend that there is also a "Download with Web Browser" option that can work instead of using the companion app. Just proceed as normal, when the download begins, a dialogue window will popup prompting you to download the helper. But next to this is a button marked "Download with Web Browser" (or suchlike). Just click that.

I managed to get the VDH supplement app working. The path was simple: I followed the instructions provided by VDH on the page with the download of the supplementary app, however I didn't install the .deb version (I didn't know how to start it) but the tar.gz "version".

Basically I followed the download instructions on different linux distributions, the two command lines you find on the site do all the rest.The file was downloaded in the Download folder and then after the first command it is extracted in the Home and becomes executable when necessary, the second command I don't know but execute it.

Okay, but all there is to see in here are the standard cut, paste, print, seperator etc, plus the Amazon icon I put in there earlier. The icon for downloadhelper is not visible anywhere. Yet if I go into my add ons in the tools menu, the program is visible, not high lighted and I have the option to select Options, Disable or Remove. I have tried to remove and reinstall but no joy.

Hi, I came down this evening and saw your message. I opened Firefox and had an extra tab telling me an addon I installed this morning had successfully installed. I went to the View Tab and I had an extra toolbar option of Web print from my Epson printer which I installed 2 months ago and has only appeared now. I ignored it for now and opened customize view. Low and behold there was the icon for Downloadhelper!! I dragged it to its correct position next to the forward arrow and closed the customize view. Fandabadoozy, happy days. I closed Firefox and restarted. Guess what???? Icon gone again, not in the customize view, and the new toolbar option has also disappeared.

All the answers say just to remove it, but I actually use it. How do I turn off these annoying pop ups telling me my video is finished downloading? Without removing the add on? Without disabling it entirely?

Generates server headers which force data to be downloaded to yourdesktop. Useful with file downloads. The first parameter is the nameyou want the downloaded file to be named, the second parameter is thefile data.

Vithos all that information is 2 years old. You should find it at the extension store for your browser. It's an addon. It's at version 7.40 @ the firefox addon store.

It's a sucky addon--works 50% of the time. For the other 50% it insists you download the "companion app" to this extension. I agree with algent: youtube-dl works*. When it doesn't work I activate this extension. Again, if it works.

*youtube-dl does not download if the filename is too long and I have no idea how to get around that.

However I am really not computer savvy and am not sure what that means. All I know is that this Download Helper program worked on the Mac one day and and now it gives me that error message in the link. I want to use Download Helper to download music videos, convert them to MP3 and burn them to a personal CD. I don't understand source code. Can someone explain how to reinstall ffmpeg/lame in plain English step by step? It's honestly too frustrating to figure out on my own!

Instead of doing all that just download the file like any other that doesn't have a helper (i.e., just download it). If you want to convert it with the iffmpeg engine then simply use the iFFmpeg application. You still need to dowload ffmpeg but there's a link on the iFFmpeg from where to download an already built version for the mac and where to install it.

No matter what you do, I don't recommend trying to figure out how to adapt this stuff to a browser helper (for example, what would be the mime type?). It's much easier to do it after the fact, i.e., after the stuff is downloaded.

Recent changes at YouTube broke the download of high-quality variants on some videos. A fixed version of DownloadHelper is currently being reviewed at Mozilla and should be available very soon. By that time you can install version 4.8.6 from this place.

I bought sims 4 today and downloaded origin off the origin website so I could play. When I had downloaded it onto my mac and pressed on the app and something came up saying I had to give permission (put in my password) for the helper tool so I did that and pressed enter. But it just declined it so i pressed cancel and something else popped up to say i had to give permission to continue but I couldn't give permission. This happened every time i opened the app.

As I am having cell phone internet which is limited and cant carry my PS4 to my office where i can download at fast speed so i wanna ask that how to setup PSX download helper and PS4 on the same network using a proxy so that i can start my download on my laptop so that i can carry the laptop to my office and can download there. Ps i use cellphone hotspot for laptop internet and can also use the same in limited data on PS4 so that both can be on same hotspot. Please help. Thannks in advance.

Psn downloads files in 4gb chunks. Your game url will contain something like this 000000_0000. You have to change the last 0=1 in the url and the next 4g chunk will be downloaded. Repeat this until you get url not found, you will most probably know when its ends cause the last link will be less than 4gb.

Download all the files in the laptop and place all files in one folder example psn game. In PSX settings select tick the auto replace files in folder. After that open your proxy setup and when its connected to proxy start the download, however this time the file will get transferred from laptop to ps4.

Yes and Yes. No transferring files from laptop to ps4 will use your isp data. In psx downloader where you get the link underneath is the place where to point it to game files. This is important for psx downloader to know where on laptop are files stored. ff782bc1db
