At the beginning of this hip hop classic, there is a surf rock song that is played for a couple seconds before the real song starts. I am really into surf rock and cannot think of the name of the song for the life of me.

He acknowledges and thanks him for being one of the few people who always believed in him and kept him from being led astray. He then fills Troy in on how he and his family are and tells him they "reminisce" about him. He also shouts out the other families in his hometown of Mount Vernon, NY.

I agree that the song is a memorial song, yet I have to think that this song is more than just a song of to remember a single person. I feel this song is a testament to the daily struggle in the life of one man. I feel that this individual's struggle can be applied to a larger audience. I feel the lines that lead the song out are very important: "Just Listen Listen Listen, Just Listen." I think that this song is has grown into a song for general reminiscence. By just listening to this song I feel a lot can be learned about how memories appreciate when time passes. By this I mean the general "suck factor" of life fades away in time. For example one line: "Telling me how to raise my boy unless he's taking over. I said pop maybe when you're older." I feel this line shows how even the advice of an over reaching parent, which is usually annoying and overbearing, can grow to hold nostalgia overtime. This song is amazing and will only grow in relevance as memories grow in the mind of the listener. This song makes me remember my past as a positive over negative and I am very thankful for it.

I had the honor of jumping on a phone call with Nolte, and he unfolded the whole goddamn story of how punk rock was founded in the hippie-infested terrain of Hermosa Beach from a loose group of fanzine editors, record store clerks and teenage fishermen. It blew my mind a bit, frankly.

So, this is before anything like the Germs or any of that other stuff that was super influenced by the U.K?

When the British punk came in '77, things start to coalesce; especially in L.A. The Back Door Man guys were pretty dismissive of what they saw as a bunch of kids who were into glitter rock looking for the new fad. The glitter kids did take it over, but some of them formed bands like the Germs and became very, very good.

I reminisce for a spell, or shall I say think back

22 years ago to keep it on track

The birth of a child on the 8th of October

A toast but my granddaddy came sober

Countin all the fingers and the toes

Now I suppose, you hope the little black boy grows, huh

18 years younger than my mama

But I really got beatings cause the girl loved drama

In single parenthood there I stood

By the time she was 21, had another one

This one's a girl, let's name her Pam

Same father as the first but you don't give a damn

Irresponsible, plain not thinking

Papa said chill but the brother keep winking

Still he won't down you or tear out your hide

On your side while the baby maker slide

But mama got wise to the game

The youngest of five kids, hon here it is

After 10 years without no spouse

Momma's gettin married in the house

Listen, positive over negative for the women and master

Mother Queen's risin a chapter

Deja vu, tell you what I'm gonna do

When they reminisce over you, my God

[CL]

When I date back I recall a man off the family tree

My right hand Poppa Doc I see

Took me from a boy to a man so I always had a father

When my biological didn't bother

Taking care of this so who am I to bicker

Not a bad ticker but I'm clocking pop's liver

But you can never say that his life is through

5 kids at 21 believe he got a right too

Here we go while I check the scene

With the Portugese lover at the age of 14

The same age, front page, no fuss

But I bet you all your dough, they live longer than us

Never been senile, that's where you're wrong

But give the man a taste and he's gone

Noddin off, sleep to a jazz tune

I can hear his head banging on the wall in the next room

I get the pillow and hope I don't wake him

For this man do cuss, hear it all in verbatim

Telling me how to raise my boy unless he's taking over

I said pop maybe when you're older

We laughed all night about the hookers at the party

My old man standing yelling: Good God Almighty!

Use your condom, take sips of the brew

When they reminisce over you, for real

[CL]

I reminisce so you never forget this

The days of wayback, so many bear witness the fitness

Take the first letter out of each word in this joint

Listen close as I prove my point

T to the R-uh-O-Y, how did you and I meet?

In front of Big Lou's, fighting in the street

But only you saw what took many time to see

I dedicate this to you for believing in me

Rain or shine, yes in any weather

My grandmom Pam holds the family together

My Uncle Doc's the greatest better yet the latest

If we're talking about a car, Uncle Sterling got the latest

I strive to be live 'cause I got no choice

And run my own business like my Aunt Joyce

So Pete Rock hit me, nuff respect due

When they reminisce over you, listen

State legislators who formed the Senate Select Committee on the Rock Festival within days of the event's conclusion took a far dimmer view of the drug-addled hordes who invaded their fair state for an "acid rock" festival.

By early September, Sedalia's city council approved a resolution banning future rock festivals in town. But even the state investigators who attended the festival acknowledged that most of those in attendance were peaceful, fun-loving kids.

Thirty-five years later, memories of the good vibes far outweigh the sordid details of rock 'n' roll excess for those who have visited the commemorative exhibit or discovered Sievers' Web tribute page.

The three look back at those early days of punk rock and features clip from a documentary about the venue. The clip includes commentary from some of those who performed there Ian MacKaye, Cro-Mags and others. Haynes himself paid tribute to the late Dave Brockie with the word GWAR on his arm during the interview.
