The original Copperplate Gothic was designed by Frederic W. Goudy in the early 1900s, and the successive weights were drawn by Clarence C. Marder for American Type Founders. It's a wide, squarish, monotone gothic (sans serif) with the addition of small hairline serifs. These tiny serifs were reminiscent of the edges on letters that were engraved in copperplate, hence the name. This kind of typeface was popular in the mid-twentieth century for stationery and business cards, especially for serious business professionals like doctors, lawyers, and bankers. Today, Copperplate Gothic enjoys a revival in corporate and advertising design, still imparting a look of serious business, both understated and posh. Despite the lack of a lowercase, Copperplate Gothic is legible at small sizes because of its open and wide shapes. There are nine weights and styles; the first part of the numbering system (29-33) relates to the amount of width and weight, and the second part (AB-BC) relates to the height of the caps and small caps.

While termed a "Gothic" (another term for sans-serif), the face has small glyphic serifs that act to emphasize the blunt terminus of vertical and horizontal strokes. The typeface shows an unusual combination of influences; the glyphs are reminiscent of stone carving or lettering on copperplate engravings, the wide horizontal axis is typical of Victorian display types, yet the result is far cleaner and leaves a crisp impression in letterpress or offset printing.

In "Super Sunday", season 2 episode 13 of the TV series The Middle, Brick Heck pines over the typeface used in a news article about the Super Bowl. He tells his father Mike that the font used is Copperplate Gothic, stating that it is part of the sans serif typeface family, after which he did his signature whisper to himself "sans serif".

Webfonts can be used on a single domain. Agencies responsible for multiple websites, for example web design agencies or hosting providers, may not share a single webfont license across multiple websites.

Every time the webpage using the webfont kit is loaded (i.e, the webfont kit CSS which holds the @font-face rule is called) the counting system counts a single pageview for each webfont within the webfont kit.

We'll supply a kit containing webfonts that can be used within digital ads, such as banner ads. This kit may be shared with third parties who are working on your behalf to produce the ad creatives, however you are wholly responsible for it.

An Electronic Doc license is based on the number of publications in which the font is used. Each issue counts as a separate publication. Regional or format variations don't count as separate publications.

The bolder weights are new designs, based on the characteristics of the Light. A serif variant, Sweet Gothic Serif, has also been developed to expand the usefulness of the family, offering an alternative to Copperplate Gothic. As such, most of the fonts are new designs, yet may seem familiar and ubiquitous given their model.

In fact, supported fonts vary based on the operating systems, including the current version a user has. So if you design a website with a font only supported by the newest version of Windows 10, most users will see something else.

Bodoni MT is a serif font, like Times New Roman, more suitable for paragraph text than headlines for most websites. Bodoni MT is available by default with Microsoft 10 and some older versions. Bodoni 72 is included with macOS Sierra and newer versions.

Cambria is an even softer serif font, with, in many cases, barely noticeable serifs even for capital letters. This gives it a more modern feel and also maintains a high level of readability on screens.

Courier New is a monospaced slab serif font, with much thinner regular text than most other serif and sans serif fonts. It has almost perfect coverage by both Microsoft and Apple on both computers and mobile devices.

Garamond is a serif font, inspired by typefaces made by the 16th-century Parisian engraver, Claude Garamond. It has softer, rounder edges than some of the more standard serif fonts, like Times New Roman. Modern versions of Microsoft and Apple OS include their own versions of the Garamond font.

If you used a template to build your website, your CSS is most likely located in a separate stylesheet. This is great because it means you can change the font for your whole site by editing just one file.

Web fonts can be are pre-installed on operating systems (these are called "safe fonts") or import from web server (these are called "web fonts").

If, for some reason, the first specified font-family cannot be loaded, it is necessary to specify, as a backup, another similar font-family or generic family name.

Generic family names are keywords for templates from which font families of similar appearance and characteristics are generated.

Also, generic family names are very important for formatting the appearance of text on mobile phones because many standard fonts do not work on them. 006ab0faaa
