A college closure does not mean that student debt or loans will be forgiven. Former Compass students with student loans must continue to make payment on their student loans. The criteria to qualify for federal student loan discharge is dependent on several factors. More information can be found at -events/closed-school.

We will embed four core values across every facet of our schools: respect, wisdom, courage, and servant leadership. However, it is not enough to simply talk about our values. That is why we implement a curriculum that explicitly teaches our core values and the social-emotional competencies needed to develop the skills and tools necessary to truly internalize and demonstrate them.

Compass High School is founded on the beliefs that learning can take place anywhere, not just in a formal Tucson high school class setting. High school credit is earned in many unconventional ways, such as independent studies, class travels, and internships. In addition, we want to emphasize the understanding of the learning process, for instance the personal, real-life application of knowledge. We strive to prepare Tucson high school students for their lives as adults. Finally, academic and intellectual development is balanced with building strong life skills and communication skills.

For those looking to enroll at Compass High School, a public charter school in Tucson, AZ, you can call our front office at 520.296.4070 or visit our school campus. Get a jump start by filling out our enrollment packet and bring it with you on your campus visit.

The Compass Community Collaborative School mission is to help students discover learning with purpose, to author the best possible story of their lives and of the collective future. Compass is an innovative, learner-centered school for students ages 12-18 years designed to prepare them for the rapidly changing world. The speed at which the economy, environment, and society are changing is unprecedented in human history, and Compass addresses this changing landscape by embracing competency-based advancement and an intentional focus on habits of success and 21st Century competencies, in addition to the national and state academic standards. The high-quality, project-based learning practiced at Compass is steeped in design thinking and community engagement making it relevant and responsive to student interests.

Academics and Activities

Compass is an equity project, seeking to offer students from all backgrounds the opportunity to employ entrepreneurial mindsets and use community-engaged project-based learning (venture projects) to inspire deep learning of academic, social-emotional, and 21st Century essential skills. The flexible school day schedule promotes community collaboration inside and outside of our school building.

Secondary education is embedded into real-world problem solving and meaningful work. The innovative and research-based school model was designed by a diverse team of educators, students, parents, artists, and community leaders in an entrepreneurial business incubator, and as such, many local partnerships expand opportunities for student learning. Additionally, several national partners add depth and breadth to the curriculum.

As a Big Picture Learning affiliate, the school gets support in internship and advisory programming. Summit Learning Systems provides an open-source curriculum and professional development opportunities. A partnership with No Barriers Youth provides a rich social emotional learning curriculum, venture project support, as well as opportunities for students from all socioeconomic backgrounds to travel nationally and abroad for service learning ventures.

Compass Homeschool Program offers families in the northern Virginia and metropolitan DC areas a menu of high-quality, in-person classes in core, elective, and enrichment topics. All classes are taught by subject matter experts who teach multiple levels of engaging, experiential classes in science, technology, math, English, foreign languages, history, art, acting, music, fitness, and more. Classes are taught in Herndon, VA, in a 4-quarter, 30-week academic year. Classes meet Mondays through Friday, and most classes meet just one time per week. All classes are offered a la carte so homeschool families can select a mix of classes that best suits their (child)ren. Compass students experience group learning in a classroom environment with like-minded homeschooled peers. In addition to regularly scheduled Compass classes, our families enjoy special activities, events, and academic clubs and contests.

Compass is a warm, welcoming community hub with families that represent a wide range of homeschooling philosophies, ethnic backgrounds, nationalities, races, religious beliefs, and political affiliations. Our dynamic community creates a positive environment where students welcome one another, and parents can network.

Learning acceleration strategically prepares students for success with current grade-level content. Past concepts and skills are addressed but always in the purposeful context of current learning. Accelerated learning readies students for new, grade level learning by strategically pairing critical concepts, content and skills from prior grades with grade-level content and instruction.

The Minnesota Atlas for Learning Acceleration in High Quality Tier One (Core) Instruction is aligned to support implementation of the MnMTSS framework. The Atlas also supports educators across the system in understanding the philosophy and approach of learning acceleration by providing teachers, school leadership teams and district leadership clear guidance on key actions they can take to implement a learning acceleration approach and offering corresponding resources to ensure Tier 1 (core) practices.

Please share your feedback on this form, and your responses will be reviewed and considered for future revisions and additions to the Atlas to support educators and students across the state.

The DOE develops tools to help families and educators understand student achievement and school quality. The reports on this page provide information about school quality from multiple sources. These sources include feedback from students, teachers, and parents. Reports also include information from formal school visits and a variety of student achievement metrics.

Valor is committed to serving as a catalyst for sharing and learning with other educators across the country. Like you, our school partners know that education should instill purpose and inspiration that lasts long after graduation. Together, we are building stronger school and organizational cultures, clear systems for staff development, joyful and rigorous classrooms, and so much more through integrating our relationship-based framework. We have two training programs to support leaders in education on their journey toward relationship-based schools and leadership: Compass Camp and Compass-in-Leadership.

Since 2017, Valor has partnered with a small number of schools across the nation in their adoption of the Compass model. We are grateful to our school partners who have dedicated time, resources, and energy in providing comprehensive human development to their scholars through the Compass model.

This certification signifies our deep commitment to comprehensive development for both students and staff, and designates our schools as implementing these systems and structures at a high level to ensure the best outcomes for our entire community.

We are particularly proud of how our team continued to implement this program even while our students participated in virtual learning. Be sure to check out this story from CBS4 Denver for more about how we adapted this program to the challenges of last school year. ff782bc1db
