hehe, I appreciate the workflow demonstration. However, I wonder if Autodesk can provide a response as to why their occupancy area plan and color fill legend aren't 'talking' to each other. I should be able to create a color fill legend for an occupancy area type Area Plan.

Create a new project, add the Area scheme with the same name, create an Area plan of that scheme and check if the a Color scheme is shown, save. Then transfer project standards to your file and choose Area and Volume computation + Color Fill Schemes.

The workaround of creating a new project and then transferring settings didn't work for me. My area plan uses key schedules to set occupancy - could that be the reason I can't create a new color scheme for it? Any other workarounds I could try?

@ToanDN , you were correct with your method, I just created a project using our company standard - detaching from a central project "template" - rather than starting a new project from the Architectural Template. Once I did it that way, Transfer Project Standards worked great!

I've been complaining about this problem for years. It happens when you copy and paste a schedule from another project into a new project which doesn't already have area schemes with the same names. It's a stupid bug and the source of enormous frustration every time an employee does this the first time.

Is there any way of rotating the color fill legend after a view has been placed on a sheet? I noticed that the color fill legend rotates with the view and appears to have no way of disassociating from the view.

In this example the plan was rotated 90 degrees counterclockwise to maximize the sheet (11x17). Another sheet size is out of the question. Changing the scale to orientate the plan vertically on the sheet is out of the question......any thoughts?

not a to bright way, but can be done if making a View Duplicate as Dependent and use both with the parent View on Sheet . The parent View is rotated on sheet and inside the Title Block and the Dependent View, not rotated ,outside the Title Block , excepting the Color Scheme Legend....

I use the same to align spot elevations to angled walls on the sheet ...(the less the views in the browser the better) But if you insist on a duplicate as dependant you can use the same trick in order not to bring 2 views on a sheet. It will be just the duplicate dependant and rotate it's crop view...And the Room Tags are maintained straight similar to the legend. Unlike above

Hello,

I am building up my OrCAD library, there will be multiple LED colors within the LED library. I am looking to make separate LED symbols for each color with the fill of the LED being the correct color. I cannot seem to find out how to accomplish this, the fill is always the default color. When attempting to manually add (or override) the color when I add a color property into part properties it says it already exists, is there no way to control the fill color of individual schematic symbols?

There is a default internal property named Color on all the parts. If you double click any placed part on the schematic, you can see that Color property in part properties, though it would not be visible in part editor window.

As a workaround you can define color (all lower case) instead of Color or you can use any other user defined name like LED_COLOR or anything else.

Hope it helps

I have some files which have a COLOUR FILL adjustment (they are grids for calendar months) and I need to change the SOLID COLOUR FILL to a different hue. I can't find a way...any tips? I don't think bucket fill works ,as in the grid I have lots of single tiny elements...

I selected a part of the color I want to replace, then I clicked on the three dots at the bottom where it says MORE and chose "Select Similar". All the parts of the image with that same color were instantly in selection.

I too have the identical problem. Just downloaded PS 22.0.0 and the Solid Color fill /adjustment fill is not working for me. Every other option (gradient, pattern, all of the adjustments) works as intended, but when selecting Solid Color, the document just blinks black and back to normal, but the color fill layer has not been added. Poor timing, as I was literally about to record a screencast tutorial for my students on using Solid Color layers!

Last night I discovered that I could drag Solid Fill Color Layers from previous creations and can change the color by clicking on my color of choice in my swatches. If I had a color within my composition I wanted I simply used the eyedropper tool to get the color in my recent. Then by clicking on the previously created color layer and then on the color I wanted, I could get the fill layer to show the color I desired. It's not nearly as convenient, but in a pinch it works. Hopefully, the next update addresses this issue.

I have a PC. When I did the CC update something corrupted and I couldn't open or save files in PS (others had this issue as well when they updated) There was a box in my preferences>performance called "use graphics processor" that was checked. Once unchecked allowed me to open and save files. I don't know if I traded off the ability to use Color fill layers by unchecking that box, but my PS was completely unusable with it checked. The color fill layer is the only tool I have noticed issues with. It may be somehow connected to the issues that occurred when I updated.

Check the your GPU is not old. It seem Adobe feels that old GPU may be of limited function. I have seen 4 Years old stated on Adobe.com as old. And GPU now require more VRAM these days Adobe raised the requirement from 512MB to 2GB and also state to consider GPU that benchmark 2000 or better..

I have the same problem as Marco. I went to the tutorial that you suggested (thanks) and it led me to Hatch. When I went to Hatch I was able to fill an area in my design with solid black, but I could not find how to change the color. Can yoiu help please?

I am trying to have the floor lamp covering the corner of the window as if it was sent to front but it does not do anything. I thought of using attribute to color fill white but this does not work either. In fact I don't know how to color fill the base as they are NURBS curves. Can you please advise?

NURBS curves do not have a surface associated with them so they have no fill. However you can usually use Modify > Convert > Convert Copy to Polygons, then you can compose and assign fill colors to the closed surfaces.

If we did, it would likely be after something happens to address the odd dichotomy of Screen Plane vs Layer Plane. Most likely getting rid of that concept entirely and having all objects exist in real 3D space and having their fills be able to respond to that.

I keep hoping VW gets rid of the screen plane concept and progresses to universal real 3D space! It would make the program vastly more intuitive and powerful, and solve a lot of its present-day quirks.

Although I initially liked the strict separation of 2D and 3D in Vectorworks compared to the mess it could be in AutoCAD I do remember being quite happy when layer plane got introduced to allow using 2D objects (mostly site plans) in 3D space without having to convert it all to 3D (and resource hogging) objects first. Since then I have never used screen plane again on design layers so I won't miss it there.

One of the little current annoyances is the lack of e.g. NURBS objects to show as filled as mentioned above. If getting rid of screen plane would allow to solve this more quickly then by all means get rid of screen plane. But please do improve snapping etc. in 3D as well at the same time so that those still using screen plane as a workaround for that issue won't run into trouble.

This is sometimes a problem, but there is usually a solution. I think the initial intent (at least in vwx) of NURBS Curves is to just present a path object - a vector object with location and direction. NURBS Curves are never closed, so never actually surround an area. A NURBS Curve may appear closed, but there actually is a pair of endpoints, stacked. The need for fill and texture is provided with the NURBS Surface which can usually be derived from a NURBS Curve or a loft among multiple curves, or can be contrived via a Conversion or Extraction from another type of surface.

And, a similar problem manifests in the NURBS Surface too. A group of NURBS surfaces "air tight" surrounding a volume does not always easily convert to a solid. There are some strategies for this, but, doesn't always work. There are also some wish list items out there asking for such solid conversion capability.

Thanks for both your responses... I thought I'd do whats suggested, and on the app on start I have added a variable Set(FillMe, RGBA(My colours, 1); and I can see this is set correctly as I can see the colour show up, but having now gone and deleted the colour label I had created I thought, it would use the above variable I have just created, but it doesn't so i checked the property of the label and buttons and I try change the Fill property from FillMe.Color to just FillMe trying to ref the variable I have just set, it doesn't find the variable I have set on app on start?

I'm pretty sure this is because the variable has the same name of the old control so there is a conflict - you will need to change all occurrences of FillMe.Color to FillMe, then re-run the OnStart

Yes that's what I thought, so I deleted the old FillMe label... so now I have loads of red x on my app but when I try to go to the Fill property and remove FillMe.Color to just FillMe it doesn't locate the variable - "Name isn't valid. This Identifier isn't recognized" - which seems strange as it should locate the variable set OnStart... I've saved and restarted, as the Run OnStart didn't work, but still the same issue it wont allow me to ref the variable 152ee80cbc
