Thanks for this detailed written guide and wonderful method!

I am new to clover and I am using this method from last 1 month, it was working absolutely well, but suddenly blue screen appeared and I can no longer boot using clover. I reinstalled windows in SSD,I made new clover stick and tried. I succeeded to boot from my nvme ssd on pcie x4 adapter again using clover, but I am getting this error in clover that (PXE-E16: NO OFFER RECEIVED). I did not get this!

Please find the attached image and help me out to resolve this problem.

Hello and welcome to the forums, PXE is normally a bios setting please check that is is disabled in your computers bios.

If it is already disabled then you may have an issue within your clover configuration file. you may need to disable pxe option from the boot list within the config.plist

I had difficulty with http cvad-mac.narod ru / index / bootdiskutility_exe / 0-5 but finally managed to download BDU_v2.1.2020.028b.zip!

Its instructions are not entirely clear. If I run the exe, what happens? Will it give me the opportunity to install Clover onto a USB stick?

Also - I am not going to use this or Clover to boot a Mac. I intend to use Clover to make a Dell Optiplex 3010 or 7010 boot from a NVMe M.2 SSD that is inserted into an adapter which in turn is plugged into a PCIe (x4) slot.

In such case, what should be my choices when I run BDutility.exe?

I just succeeded in creating a Clover USB key, and in installing Windows 11, Linux Mint and Kali Linux on a non bootable NVMe SSD in a legacy system.

The NVMe SSD is installed on a 2009 legacy Gigabyte motherboard with an AMD Phenom processor through a PCIe adaptor.

I used Bootdisk Utility v.023 and Clover v.4961 to create the Clover key.

Everything works great !

@glnz The BDU from cvad is an installer it will install clover to a usb for you and attempt to configure it for the system you are installing it from, so i hope that is the same machine you wish to boot.

This is incorrect clover is a full bootloader and was designed for osx, it can see any partition format including ext4 I have dual booted with Ubuntu via clover myself. Please ensure you add the partition guid to the config.plist file. If I recall you need to add it under the boot section.

Today I also tried booting via Clover; the sysprepped SSD which I installed a fresh copy of Win10 on (and made the clone copy to NVME drive from), just to see how that worked.

Well the booting started fine from Clover, but after a while an error message popped up declaring that "Windows setup could not configure Windows to run on this computers hardware". That is strange since the install was made on the same computer. Anyway, this leads me to the fact that; even if did get the Win10 cloned copy on the NVME to boot from Clover, I would likely be face with this same error.

I am guessing it could have something to do with how Clover is setup. Since Clover is emulating UEFI BIOS. I have no idea how to pursue this now, but will try to do some more research.

For those of you who have cloned the win10 install onto the NVME drive, what was your procedure? Clone whole disk, or only partitions? What software used? Did you get the NVME drive to boot without adding bcdboot mod? (bcdboot C:\Windows /s C: /f uefi) What clover version used?

If you have installed Windows in UEFI mode, you can call Windows Boot Manager directly typing FS0:\EFI\Microsoft\Boot\bootmgfw.efi Enter into the EFI shell. If this isn't found try FS0:\EFI\BOOT\BOOTX64.EFI (case doesn't matter).

If you have legacy BIOS installation then Clover will not boot it. You could download rEFInd-flashdrive an put this on a USB key as described in its documentation. If you then boot that it should be able to automatically detect and boot legacy Windows installations.

Hi- the title and contents of this post suggest that you are using rEFInd, yet the file paths you give are for the Clover bootloader, and the .img file seems to only contain Clover bootloader-related files. Am I crazy, or does this not have anything to do with rEFInd?

I followed your instruction for a Win 10 USB Clover boot disk, but no matter what I do I get no result.

My motherboard is an ASUS A88X Pro with an AMD A10 780K Processor. I have installed a WD Black SN750 1TB.

PS: if you were to supply this setup on a USB disk for Win 10 I would gladly pay for it. I have spent all day today trying to create the USB boot drive to be able to boot the NVMe which I have cloned my Win 10 OS onto.

When you have t waste that amount of time you have to consider it it is really worth the trouble.

I would have loved to have got this to work. Do you have any suggestions that may help.

One reason for this is that the USB method is a little fragile, meaning that if my kids leave their USB headphones or another thumb drive plugged in then it often stops the computer from booting up and I have to be there to troubleshoot.

I have Linux loaded on a M2 and in adapter in PCIe slot. When clover boot screen comes up, I see see a picture of a hard drive and Boot Linux from Whole Disk Boot. The hard drive is highlighted and I push enter and the screen flashes and nothing happens.The Linux drive will work from a USB M2 holder.Appreciate any help, Dennis

What error or symptom do you have? Does the Windows installer tell you that no drives are detected? Please note that you will probably need to boot the Windows installer from Clover as well for it to know that the PC can boot from that drive, and offer to install on it.

Curious what firmware you have on your HP 800 G1. I have one too and I can install Linux on the M.2 drive however it is not available to boot no matter what settings I choose in the bios and use Clover or Refind. The drive never shows up.

I had difficulties installing Clover to boot on an NVMe SSD I installed on a 2008 Gigabyte MB. But I finally succeeded ! I created the Clover USB key using Boot Disk Utility v.023 and Clover v.4961. Nothing else worked for me.

Please tell me if the mainboard configuration GA B75M D3H, CPU INTEL G840 can boot from a PCIe slot with AXAGON COMPACT PCEM2-1U adapter and SSD M2 SPG256 after the changes in the article or other methods.

Would love to boot from my NVME SSD. I used AOMEI Back Upper to disk clone my sata SSD to my new NVME SSD. Last month I used AOMEI Back Upper to disk clone my windows 10 mechanical sata drive to my sata SSD. Been using the sata SSD about a month. I love the zippiness of the sata SSD & hope to get further improvement by making the new NVME SSD my bootable drive.

My PC currently has Windows 10 and Mac installed on separate hard drives with Clover bootloader managing the boot process. I've recently purchased a third hard drive to install Ubuntu onto it; however, I'm unsure what the best way is to proceed considering tutorials and threads for dual boot systems are far more common than triple boot systems with my configuration.

I was considering unplugging all my other drives (Windows and Mac) and doing a "standard" install of Ubuntu, which would not affect my other drives; however, given my elementary knowledge of bootloaders etc. I wasn't sure if Clover would be able to detect the drive after I reconnected the other two drives once installation of Ubuntu was complete. Note I'm flexible on using Clover to boot if there's a superior and easier method.

When done, reboot with the USB key plugged in. If your system has an nvidia graphics card you may have problems, If so, move the cursor to Install Ubuntu and press E to enter the GRUB editor. Go to the line beginning linux and press N or move the cursor to go to the end of the line. Here add the parameter nouveau.modeset=0 and press F10 to boot.

The latest three Clover builds (4674, 4700 and 4722), on my legacy motherboard with PS2 mouse and keyboard have the boot menu frozen. I had to use an older build in order to get my Mojave installation pen drive. Obviously, on long term, this is not a solution, since updating the OS requires the latest Clover build. The newer builds work fine outside the boot menu if, on first install into Mojave, on boot.plist I set to boot in seconds from the main portion, but I loose the acces to the boot menu functions anyway, of course.

1) Clover was installed first, of course, on the pen drive, on there I have got the build 4658, the last build that has a working menu. On the main macOS partition, I have the latest build, updated from an earlier build, where was already set to boot in 3 seconds from the partition. Without that, the latest build would have made the installation, obviously, unbootable. ff782bc1db
