I was recently surprised to find out that my Medicare Advantage policy with United does cover emergency medical and evacuation expenses outside the US. In the past I have purchased a policy with minimum cruise cost coverage. Since my concern is for medical expenses, the policy provides 100% medical coverage with very high limits at a very reasonable cost.

I would never buy insurance from Celebrity. Its to their benefit to deny you, and from what I'm reading here the coverage is minimal. We always buy ours from a company on Insuremytrip.com. They cover the entire vacation-cruise, air, days spent before and after the trip, ect. Not just during the cruise itself.

We have never sailed from Fort Lauderdale before so we took the opportunity to fly in for our cruise early and spend two nights in this lovely sunshine city. There is lots to do, but previous to our stay in Fort Lauderdale we spent some time in Miami and did lots whilst we were there so our time in Fort Lauderdale, for us, was about getting some rest and relaxation with a tour of the city to come after our cruise.

After being picked up at the cruise port we had a short 10-minute drive to a local food market where we got to pick some of the ingredients for our salsa making, after which we had a walk through the market to soak up the atmosphere, admire all the fresh produce on offer and see the locals enjoying their breakfast at the food stalls.

Using the walking/jogging track is actually one of my favorite things to do on any cruise vacation. I love walking around the perimeter of the ship and taking in the gorgeous and vast sea view. Early morning is one of my favorite times to go, before it gets too hot. However, you can walk at any time of the day.

My husband started our last cruise with some achy shoulders and lower neck pain, and one of the first things we did was book a massage for him. He felt great and was able to completely relax throughout the cruise.

So I accepted the invitation and we flew out from Santa Barbara on a Wednesday morning, connecting in Phoenix and Charlotte, and arriving into Fort Lauderdale around 8pm. The nice thing about Fort Lauderdale is that the airport, several hotels, and the cruise port are all very close together, making the trip easier. Less than 15 minutes after walking off the plane we were at our hotel.

Thursday morning we checked out of the hotel at 11:00 and then headed to the cruise port at noon. Check-in and embarkation were remarkably fast because we had already completed all paperwork online, including uploading photographs. Definitely do this to save time, either through the app (iTunes | Google Play) or website, in order to skip lines. A couple of facial scans and a luggage check later, we were walking onto the ship. We headed straight to our cabin.

This was our first cruise. Not too sure what to expect, but everything was amazing. Planet Cruise is the easiest cruise website because I can search for my local airports easily, which you can't on others. I can't rate excursions because I didn't take any.

The cruise was brilliant. We could not fault anything about the ship and the service. We love Celebrity. Our only issue was the hotel we stayed at pre cruise. It was the Gambrinus it was rated 4 star, it was no better than a b&b. We often stay in 4 star hotels and this doesn't compare.

We really enjoyed the cruise as was a 60th birthday while on board. Would recommend it every time. Yes weather wasn't good sometimes, but it didn't dampen our spirits. Would recommend it every time; been to some lovely places.
