Dimmer is a small and free application for Windows, designed to help you adjust the brightness of your computer screen, monitor or display. This becomes very useful when you are in near or total darkness and the minimum brightness from your display or screen is still too much. Dimmer offers a fast and easy way to correct this, so you can adjust the brightness of your displays. It can dim all your screens and monitors; LCD, TFT and LED backlit types (even old CRTs). It supports multiple screens, displays and monitors with convenient individual controls to adjust each one.

Always wondered how to reduce your screen brightness? Or, how to dim your computer monitor, screen or display? Wonder no more. Dimmer was created for this exact task, to help you lower the computer screen brightness, so you can work with no detriment to your eyes.

By reducing the brightness of your screens, Dimmer helps to protect you from excessive light radiation which damages your eyes. It has helped to save the eyesight of thousands of people since 2007. Some say it's better than carrots. Dimmer is designed to run on all versions of Windows in a quick, easy and intuitive way. It's also very lightweight on system resources, ideal for everyday use.

The need for this program came about when working at night with minimum ambient light in the room. This was uncomfortable and damaging to the eyes. So one day (back in 2004) I decided to develop Dimmer to solve this problem. The monitor brightness can now be easily adjusted via a slider and/or text input controls which are very easy to use. I eventually released it to the public in 2007.

Another convenient feature is that Dimmer does not require installation. It's a portable application. Simply extract into a folder and run. The program stores its settings into a file in the program folder (for your convenience) so the Windows Registry is not used. When no longer needed, just delete the program folder. When Dimmer runs, it will remember and dim the brightness to the level it was last used.

The CareUEyes dimmer is a small Windows application that helps regulate the brightness of computer screens, monitors, and displays. Its main goal is to reduce eye strain, especially during prolonged periods of screen use or in low light conditions.

CareUEyes dimmer supports Windows 11, Windows 10, Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows XP , it supports multiple screens and can dim all your screens, E.g. laptop, a desktop PC with an external display, or even connect an external display to a laptop.

Ā ConclusionIn conclusion, a screen dimmer is a useful tool for reducing eye strain and improving the comfort of working with computer screens and other display devices. Whether installed as software or hardware, a screen dimmer can help to improve the overall user experience by adjusting the brightness and contrast of the display to match the ambient light in the room and reducing the amount of blue light emitted by the screen.

DimScreen is a small app that easily changes the brightness of your screens. In laptops this is achieved thanks to two shortcuts (Fn and two function keys); it is in computers such as desktops, where these keys don't work or don't exist, that DimScreen proves its worth.

Since it does not require installation, the DimScreen executable can reside in any folder, such as the Home Folder. Right-clicking on the notification icon opens up the brightness selection menu, with ten different levels. To help you locate the icon, DimScreen will automatically light up the menu.

The keyboard shortcuts are really useful. They are configured in the Settings menu. They are a good substitute of the function keys in laptops. Also, DimScreen offers you the possibility of choosing the brightness level that will be activated when you start the program.

I recently replaced a bunch of wall switches with various Lutron dimmers. Maestro, Caseta, and the Caseta wall plug dimmer. The lamps are not nearly as bright compared to operating with just a switch. I put an oscilloscope on the output, and sure enough, even with the high end trim set to max, the output is still trimmed. The scope gives an RMS value of 110V when line voltage is 120V. On the wall plug, there is a mode where it can be set to switch only, when set to this mode, I get full 120V output and full brightness. I'm using halogen lamps, but it shouldn't make a difference because I can see the voltage trim on the oscilloscope with or without the lamp plugged in.

How can I set the unit to reach a full 100% while in dimming mode, and can this be applied to the other dimmers? I'm about to return this whole system. Nowhere on any packaging or instructions does it say the max output is artificially limited. I see it can provide "power savings," which if it's accomplishing that by reducing the output of the lamp, it is total BS. If the lamps are falsely dimmer, a) the 90% dimming is driving them in lower efficiency lumen output and b) I have to go get higher output lamps to make up for the light - also typically more inefficient.

While trying to find the answer to Zwave dimming on my own, I noticed that other folks were asking similar questions about how to make z-wave dimmers turn on at a certain brightness (other than what they were turned off at) and that there were few, if any, answers so this is the most information I have seen so far. I understand the difference w/ the 0-255 and 1-100% situation, so no worries there.

I made an automation that controls the default brightness. So when turning my light on at 10pm it my automation will only allow it to be 10% on start.

You can still change the brightness manually when the light is on but it will reset when turned off / on at this time again.

Would love to see the minimum brightness be even lower than what it currently is. I have 3 bulbs in my bedroom, and even at 1% brightness, they are much brighter than the previous bulbs I had been using. I have other bulbs in my house on dimmer switches which go much dimmer than what Wyze considers 1% brightness as well.

I would like it to turn on to full brightness everytime. Sometimes I forget that I had it dimmed before shutting off, and I can't think of a scenario where I'd want it dimmed if it's already off and I'm turning back on. It just means when I turn on, I normally "tap and run" and as it fades on to the last configured dim setting I'm already a few steps away and realize I did to manually dim to full brightness.

Thanks @Tony, this is close however I want single tap to turn the lights on to a preset. The double tap or long tap can accomplish going to a preset, but it requires everyone in the house or building whether they live there or not to remember they need to double tap or longpress. We should be able to change the default behaviour of turning on through single tap as well, between preset or default last brightness. If we can't do this I need to explain to everyone how to use the light switch which is not intuitive.

After updating to Android 12, the rightness of the display of my #fp4 randomly decreases, but eventually temporarily reverts to correct brightness, repetitively. The period of time during which its brightness is less than it should be is always greater than the period of time during which its brightness is correct.

No, @mde. I realized today that the bug actually prevents the brightness increasing more than 3/4 of the brightness slider. When it temporarily rectifies itself, it allows adjustment within that portion of the slider, too.

Thanks for your answer! I contacted the supportĀ

I have the lastest update installed as well, Extra Dim is off and adaptive brightness is off. I have also no other app installed that could influence the screen brightness.

Once I have the same problem after the computer went in to service and the guy downloaded something and the dimmer worked again no problem, but I don't know what it was or where to find that driver(?) or script to use with the console. Any tip?

I usually just use Fn + Left or Fn + Right to adjust my screen's brightness but the minimum settings are still too bright for me (especially when I'm working at night). I tried going through the Power Options in the Control Panel (plan brightness already at the lowest settings). Is there a way to dim my laptop's screen beyond the minimum?

Dimmer is a very small and free piece of software designed to provide brightness reduction on LCD screens, TFT screens and LED screens when it either don't have, or lack proper brightness control. A must have if you work on your computer at night with very low ambient light. The reason I mention LCD's, TFT's or LED's is because these are the flat panels we all have on our laptops or notebooks and usually are limited and can't be dimmed very low. The desktop versions and the old CRT type monitors did not suffer from this limitation.

I know this is an old question, but I figured I'd put my two cents in. I actually use f.lux, and it's a great piece of software. It supports (though I don't know since when) screen contrast dimming with use of the Alt+PgDn and Alt+PgUp hotkeys (Down for dimmer, up for brighter) and it's an eyesaver.

Alternatively, use it as my (exceedingly photosensitive) partner does on her laptop: crank up all the settings to their extremes, disable the timer, and just use it as a global setting for dropping the brightness on your monitor

One thing to note is that I don't recommend changing the brightness via monitor buttons if the monitor is LED. Most LED monitors change the brightness via a process called Pulse-width modulation which is really bad for the eyes.

I looked quickly and didn't find any info if your monitor is a led based one or not. Some older monitors have fluorescent tube for lights (I think) and those probably have a pretty high lowest brightness setting. So if you have that type of monitor you are probably not going to have any luck making it darker through settings. 17dc91bb1f
