So it made me think, when Eren ate his dad shouldn't he have properly remembered all about his dad's past or even Kruger's past instead of just having faint memories of his dad crying and giving him a key. It doesn't make sense to me.

I know the Gala is about the Mission, but I begin to feel extra excitement for the night because for me, a small part of it is in remembrance of Zachary. I proudly get ready, feeling like I'm about to have a special night with Zach. Marley's Mission has given me something so special to look forward to year after year. It comes at the right time too. Zachary's birthday is always just weeks away. I remember back to the very first gala. I was full of nerves. I cried most of the night. I was so happy to know I was going to be receiving the Remembering Zachary Award, but I was so nervous about it. I was only starting my journey then. I just started to speak out in his memory. I was still afraid of how I'd be received or who would truly care. Often bereaved parents live a life on the fence. We can be happy, but are always teetering on sadness.

The big moment of the night came. Gene announced the awards one by one, and one by one, all of the people came up to accept them. The last award is always Zachary's. Gene called McKenzy and I up to present the award to this year's recipient, Lackawanna County Detective, Chris Kolcharno. Gene said a few words, I can never tell you what they were because emotion always overcomes me. Especially this night. Kenzy started crying and then I started crying. Crying is okay. They were tears of sadness and joy. Having Kenzy, all grown up by my side was meaningful. Add to it the fact that we were both giving the award to Chris was powerful. Nearly 11 years ago, Detective Kolcharno was one of the lead investigators in Zachary's case. He knew me then and a very little Kenzy. To be able to honor him, in Zachary's name was something I'll always remember. I am thankful that he accepted the award and I am certain that it was just as special to him as it was to me. He cares so much about what he does and it's his passion to help protect children and seek justice in their honor. He travels the country educating other law enforcement officers about crimes against children. He's shared with me that when he gets the opportunity he talks about Zachary and some of the positive things done in his memory. I have always considered Chris someone who is a part of Zachary's family, but having this award makes it official. It means so much to me that the people who were part of this nearly 11 years ago, are still around to see that we are doing okay. I want Chris to know that he has impacted my life in a positive way and I know I am who I am today because of the continued, collective support I receive. I cherish the times I get to speak to him and his wife, Karen.

Question Number 1: What great event turned around the life of Alma the Younger? If you responded that an angel of God came down and called Alma to repentance, I would give you partial credit. Certainly that was part of the equation. But I think the story more importantly illustrates the power of remembering the Savior and thinking of Him than it illustrates the ability of angels to call us to repentance.

As I was thus racked with torment, while I was harrowed up by the memory of my many sins, behold, I remembered also to have heard my father prophesy unto the people concerning the coming of one Jesus Christ, a Son of God, to atone for the sins of the world.

In our day we suffer from the same busy lifestyle and materialism that afflicted the Zoramites, but we also have added a variety of additional distractions that prevent us from remembering and thinking about the Savior. Our minds are stuffed with the thoughts of pop culture, entertainment, advertising, hobbies, sports, and other trivial concerns that easily crowd out those vital thoughts we should be having of the Savior.

One blessing of remembering Him is an increased sense of gratitude. It was simply the fact that he remembered that made one cleansed leper so very different from the other nine.17 The grateful leper remembered and therefore focused his thoughts on the giver of the gift rather than on the gift itself. It is impossible to contemplate the Atonement without a profound sense of gratitude and thanksgiving. Gratitude is the fertile soil from which so many other important virtues sprout.

Another blessing of remembering Him is that it recalls to us His example as the kind of person we ought to be. Here in the Harris Fine Arts Center, students are instructed in the techniques of art and painting. This is not one of my skills. A few years ago I was with my family in the Teton Mountains, and our car was parked on the highway because of road construction. I noticed an artist at the side of the road. She was painting the magnificent mountain scene. I had some time to observe her technique. As a nonartist I was impressed at how much time the artist spent looking up at the vista as opposed to the time she actually spent painting on the canvas. In order to get it right, she spent a tremendous amount of time studying, contemplating, and mentally processing the scene she was painting.

One more analogy: I was recently in a toy store and saw a jigsaw puzzle that boasted of having 2,000 pieces. I am sure there are trained counselors and therapists who can help people who like to put such things together. I am not a huge fan of jigsaw puzzles, but I remember doing a few as a child, usually at Christmastime with cousins. From those experiences I know that it is extremely difficult to put a puzzle together if you do not have the picture that is on the cover of the box. Similarly, it is challenging to put this earthly experience together if we do not frequently look at what the completed picture ought to look like. The life and perfect example of the Savior provides this picture. I suggest you refer to it frequently.

As my mind caught hold upon this thought, from the top of my head to the soles of my feet the most beautiful spirit erased all the enmity and feelings of revenge that had infected my soul. All those negative feelings were completely gone. Brothers and sisters, I testify that when we remember the Savior, good things happen.

We must know Christ better than we know him; we must remember him more often than we remember him; we must serve him more valiantly than we serve him. Then we will drink water springing up unto eternal life and will eat the bread of life.30

The prophet Alma taught that out of simple things great things come to pass.31 Remembering the Savior and thinking about Him are certainly simple things, but I testify they bring mighty changes in our lives. Thinking of the Savior fills us with gratitude. It more powerfully increases the ability of the Holy Spirit to direct our lives. It helps us repent and change our behavior; it opens our eyes to the needs of others; and it helps us resist temptation. I testify that each of us has the ability to train and discipline our minds to more frequently remember Him.

"He was a little bit late getting out there, so mom and dad had already gone the bed," Cate remembers. "So he comes in and sets up at this piano in the living room and starts playing the piano, and he was really sounding good!

"Back in the day, we could make a living just right on Dickson Street; we didn't have to go anywhere," Rogers picks up the story. "We'd play one club and then go 20 feet into another club, and played four or five nights a week. I remember pushing my equipment down the sidewalk just to go to another club because it was too close to get in the car."

Other than during the height of Beatle Mania, Marley seemed to maintain a moderate level of success in the local circuit. Fayetteville native Eric Johnson -- who holds a PhD in American Studies and was formerly with the Pryor Center for Arkansas Oral and Visual History -- remembers Marley as part of the "old guard of Northwest Arkansas musicians."

"We had quite a bit of success on Dickson Street with the blues because there weren't that many people that were playing the traditional blues," Marley says. "Because I was old enough to remember Muddy Waters and all those guys that were very famous with us kids."

"It was a pretty good production, and good for live, too. It was all one take," Rogers remembers proudly. "It was a lot of fun, and it was live, and it was real. No lip-syncing, no Milli Vanilli or nothing. It was just us."

Today, February 1 is the first day of Black History Month. Black History Month is an annual celebration of the achievements by African Americans. It is a time to remember. It is a time for recognizing the central role of African Americans in U.S. history and honors their contributions to the United States. It is a time to celebrate the rich history and culture of our brothers and sisters of the African Diaspora.

Black History month is a time to be resistant to our amnesic tendencies. It is a time to be reminded that Black history is part of the history of the United States. Indeed, the legacy of slavery has not only shaped the lives of black people but many aspects of American life. Black History Month 2023 is a call to remember. James Baldwin (1956) noted that,

"I know that being here today is hard," Austin said as he extended his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives. "I know that it aches to remember this milestone year after year. And I know that nothing can make it right.

"And, as the years go by, it may feel that the world is moving on or even forgetting what happened here on Sept. 11, 2001," he said. "But please know this: The men and women of the Department of Defense will always remember."
