On February 24, 2015, Blogger announced that as of late March it would no longer allow its users to post sexually explicit content, unless the nudity offers "substantial public benefit," for example in "artistic, educational, documentary, or scientific contexts."[9] On February 28, 2015, accounting for severe backlash from long-term bloggers, Blogger reversed its decision on banning sexual content, going back to the previous policy that allowed explicit images and videos if the blog was marked as "adult".[10]

Taryn has also hosted a mastermind group for food bloggers, as well as an in-person retreat with fellow food creators. She explains the process of organizing both, in case you feel inspired to do the same!

Being a professional travel blogger in my mind means two things. One, it means this is something that generates an income. Two, it means that you are in this for the long term, and can be expected to deliver a professional level of service to both your readers and any clients that you might have.

There are all sorts of ways to generate an income, and there are hugely varying opinions as to what a travel blogger *is*, varying from a journalism approach, through to writing more personal stories and tales.

Self hosted means that rather than having your blog sitting somewhere like yourblogname.blogger.com, with a company like Google in charge of the backend of your site, you have it sitting on a server somewhere with the name yourblogname.com, and you have control over the site.

When I started blogging, I ran a series of articles on this blog where I interviewed some of the most popular travel bloggers in the world, and asked them for their tips on how to run a successful travel blog. This was actually a fairly selfish endeavour, as I wanted to learn as much as possible, and asking the experts seemed like a good way to do that. You can check out that series here.

Travel blogging conferences are aimed specifically at travel bloggers, and feature workshops and training experiences to help you improve your skillset in all the relevant fields, from content creation through to social media management and working with brands. They also offer opportunities for networking and meeting with brands.

The word Professional is used in this blog post for a reason. If you want to be taken seriously as a travel blogger, content creator, influencer or whatever you choose to call yourself, then you need to behave in a professional manner.

A popular area for travel bloggers to generate an income is to partner with a brand and promote it to their audience. This can be in the form of posts on site talking about the product / brand, sharing content to social media related to the brand, and so on.

Finally, some travel bloggers offer advice to their readers in the form of helping them to arrange travel itineraries. Wandering Earl for example offers full tours, helping travellers to experience the places that they have visited, know and love.

Some travel bloggers and content creators have a user supported model. This uses platforms like Patreon whereby readers and members of the community can pay a small amount each month to support their favourite creators.

Whew. That was a lot of information. To top it all off, I just want to include some other posts from some great bloggers, as well as some resources and communities that you should consider joining if you want to take your blog to the next level.

A blogger writes content on a blog, which is an online platform for publishing articles, stories, and other forms of written expression. Bloggers create content on a regular basis, usually centered around a particular theme or topic, and share their perspectives, opinions, experiences, and insights with their readers. Blogs can cover a wide range of subjects, from personal stories and lifestyle tips to news, politics, technology, and entertainment.

Blogging has become increasingly popular in recent years as more people turn to the internet for information and entertainment. Many bloggers have built large audiences and gained influence through their writing, and some have even turned their blogs into full-time careers. While anyone can start a blog, successful bloggers typically have strong writing skills, a clear voice and style, and a commitment to consistently creating engaging and informative content.

With the rise of social media and digital platforms, bloggers have become even more influential, using their online presence to influence public opinion, challenge established ideas, and promote new ones. In many cases, bloggers have been able to bring attention to issues that might have been overlooked by mainstream media outlets, making them an essential part of the modern media landscape.

Duties and Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities of a blogger can vary depending on the specific niche or industry they are writing about. However, here are some general responsibilities that most bloggers share:

Types of Bloggers

There are many types of bloggers out there, and the specific categories they fall into can vary depending on their niche, content, and audience. Here are some of the most common types of bloggers:

The workplace of a blogger can vary greatly depending on their individual work style and preferences. Some bloggers work from home or a designated home office, while others may work in co-working spaces or coffee shops. The primary requirement is typically access to a computer, internet connection, and a quiet space to write.

For bloggers who work from home, the workplace may be a spare room or corner of the house dedicated solely to work. This space may be equipped with a desk, comfortable chair, and other necessary equipment such as a printer, scanner, or camera. Working from home can offer the flexibility to set your own schedule and work environment, but it can also require discipline to maintain focus and avoid distractions.

Co-working spaces have become increasingly popular among bloggers and other remote workers in recent years. These spaces offer shared workspaces with amenities such as Wi-Fi, printing, and coffee or snacks. Co-working spaces can provide a sense of community and collaboration with other professionals, as well as a separation between work and home life.

Coffee shops and other public spaces can also serve as a workplace for bloggers. These environments can offer a change of scenery and a break from the isolation of working from home. However, working in public spaces can also come with distractions and noise that may impact productivity.

Regardless of the physical location, bloggers often spend a significant amount of time working on their blogs. This can include researching and writing content, editing and publishing posts, and promoting their work through social media and other channels. The work of a blogger can be fulfilling and rewarding, but it also requires dedication and persistence to build a successful blog.

The importer connects your server to the blogger server to copy across the posts. For this to work you need to have connectivity from the server to the internet and also have at least one of the remote access protocols enabled, e.g. curl, streams or fsockopen. You can use the Core Control plugin to test if these are working correctly. The importer connects to Google over a secure connection so OpenSSL needs to be enabled on your server.

The importer uses the SimplePie classes to read and process the data from blogger so you will need the php-xml module installed on your webserver.

This version of the importer imports these too, but you can disable this via a setting in the blogger-importer.php file. Tracking images of size 11 are not processed. If you with to specifically exclude other images you could code something for the image_filter function.

The importer is designed to download the high resolution images where they are available. You can either disable the downloading of images or you can change the constant LARGE_IMAGE_SIZE string in the blogger-importer.php file to swap the links with a smaller image.

Note: Our free blogger migration service is for smaller blogs that have less than 1000 blog posts. We can offer a migration service for larger blogger sites, but that will be a paid service.
