One of the best parts of Bixby Voice is that it gets to know your personality and interests, offering personalized responses. You can even make purchases with your voice by telling Bixby what you want from Samsung-linked platforms.

Similar to Google Assistant and Siri, Samsung has its own digital assistant: Bixby. It comes preinstalled on the best Samsung phones, TVs, refrigerators, and other devices. In some aspects, Bixby is more powerful than other voice assistants. Still, it has certain drawbacks, which is why it's not that popular despite being on the market for over five years. Read below to find out everything about Bixby, its features, what makes it unique, the devices it is available on, and how to use it.

Bixby is Samsung's digital assistant that lets you get stuff done using your voice. It is an evolution of S Voice. Bixby can send texts, check the weather, call your friends and family, launch apps, and control music playback like other voice assistants.

Bixby's deep integration with system settings and certain third-party apps sets it apart from Google Assistant and Siri. You can use Samsung's voice assistant to change the brightness level, toggle auto-rotate on and off, take a selfie, or reply to an email in Gmail on your device.

The other two digital assistants let you control basic system settings or send a message to your friends and family. But they cannot open your Instagram direct messages or show your YouTube subscription list as Bixby can. This is what sets Bixby apart from the competition.

Another advantage Bixby has over Google Assistant is that it supports on-device processing for many basic commands. This allows the voice assistant to work offline and process many daily use commands without being connected to the internet. You must download an on-device Bixby package before you can enjoy this mode.

When you first launch Bixby on your phone, it asks you to pick a voice to get answers. Tap the radio button beside your preferred voice sample and tap Continue. Check the number of permissions Bixby uses to function properly. Tap Continue.

This voice part of the assistant lets you interact with it using the "Hi, Bixby" command. You have to set up Bixby Voice before you can use the hotword, though. You need to say "Hi, Bixby" multiple times so that the digital assistant recognizes your voice. Follow the steps below to activate and use Bixby voice wake-up.

You can turn on the Speak seamlessly toggle to say the command you want without waiting for sound feedback. After setting up Bixby Voice, you can ask the digital assistant any question or give it any command you wish.

Samsung offers a Google Assistant Routines-like feature dubbed Bixby commands with its digital assistant. Using the feature, you can automate certain tasks on your phone based on a single command. Let's check it in action.

The virtual assistant transcribes what the other person on the phone is saying in real time. You can then respond by typing your message or selecting a quick response. This is a great feature to have, especially if you receive calls from unknown numbers throughout the day and don't want to waste time attending them.

Bixby comes preinstalled on all mid-range and flagship Samsung Galaxy phones and tablets launched in 2017. The Galaxy S8, Note 8, S9, and S10 series shipped with a dedicated Bixby button. Since the voice assistant failed to take off, Samsung eventually removed the button on newer devices and merged its functionality with the side key.

Besides smartphones and tablets, Bixby is available on Samsung's smart TVs, Galaxy Home smart speakers, Family Hub 2.0 and Bespoke line of refrigerators, and Galaxy smartwatches. It is the only voice assistant available on such non-mobile devices.

Bixby isn't perfect, but it stands out with its deep third-party app and system settings integration. Still, the voice assistant is nowhere as popular as other voice assistants. While it may seem like Samsung has given up on Bixby, that's not the case. The company drops a major update for its voice assistant once in a while with some useful new features.

Speak to Bixby when the conversation window appears. Bixby Voice recognizes your voice commands more accurately if you speak according to standard language conventions. Speak clearly so that Bixby can understand you correctly.

Often compared to the likes of Siri and Google Assistant, Bixby does have a lot of similarities to other virtual assistants. However, it has some helpful features that make it truly unique and a helpful tool for anyone looking to get the most out of their Galaxy devices.

At its core, Bixby can be used as a simple virtual assistant for operating your device hands-free, or it can be a more central part of your smartphone using experience depending on your phone usage habits. I have disabled Bixby in every way I can find, and followed all the guides to do so, but for some reason both of my bluetooth headsets only open Bixby when I press their respective assistant button.

If you are using a Samsung device for the first time, you might be surprised to learn that Samsung has its own voice assistant similar to Apple's Siri, Amazon's Alexa, and Google Assistant. It's called Bixby and is built into many Samsung devices. It works like any of those other voice assistants, so you can use it to answer questions, perform common commands, and automate tasks that you frequently perform with your phone.

Users can also personalize their Bixby Text Call voice. Using the new Bixby Custom Voice Creator,2 users can record different sentences for Bixby to analyze and create an AI generated copy of their voice and tone. Currently available in Korean, this generated voice is planned to be compatible with other Samsung apps beyond phone calls. And for those who want to customize their wake word, Bixby now supports changes to the Custom wake-up3 phrase within Bixby settings as well, adding a new option to create a personalized wake-up phrase.

Nope. Tried it multiple x before posting. Included hard resetting the watch and triple checking assistant was set as default before pairing.

no change.

Emailed support and was instructed to call support. Will have to do that when I get a change.

Bixby can get tailored information about the weather, reminders of meetings, news articles, and others using artificial intelligence. It can learn individual voices, so it can personalize its answers.[19]

On 20 March 2017, Samsung announced the voice-powered digital assistant named "Bixby".[22] It was introduced alongside the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ and the Samsung Galaxy Tab A during the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2017 event;[23][24][25] although released for these devices, it could also be sideloaded on older Galaxy devices running Android Nougat.[26] A while before the phone's release, the Bixby Button was reprogrammable and could be set to open other applications or assistants, such as Google Assistant. However, near the phone's release, this ability was removed with a firmware update, but can be remapped using third-party apps.[27]

In June 2021, screenshots surfaced for a replacement for Bixby. The three-dimensional virtual assistant, Sam, was popular on social media though it was unclear whether Samsung devices would include full voice and virtual assistance.[35][36]

As of April 2018, Bixby is available in over 195 countries, but only in Korean, English (American), and Chinese (Mandarin).[37] The choice of languages has since expanded: Samsung has deployed Bixby's voice command function in French,[38][39] and on 20 February 2019 Samsung announced the addition of further languages: English (British), German, Italian and Spanish (Spain).[40] On 22 February 2020, Samsung announced the addition of Portuguese (Brazil), for Galaxy S10 & Note10, in Beta, and later for other models.[citation needed]

Samsung has added South Korean celebrities as voice options for its Bixby voice assistant. The Bixby Celebrity Voice allows users in South Korea to pick one of three prominent actresses as the default voice for Bixby, with more expected to be added soon.

Like most voice systems, Bixby requires a bit of training when it starts up. First comes the hotword training, which works a lot like Google's. You say "Hi Bixby" a few times, and the app records your voice. So far, so good.

Next is something a little different. You're asked to train Bixby by reading a few canned sentences, which is more like an old-school voice-dictation program than these cloud-based assistants. When I did it, the page instructed me to read the first sentence, which is "Health is always important." Once I was done reading it to Bixby, the logo animated into a spinner animation while Bixby processed my speech. This thinking went on for about 20 seconds before the app told me "Bixby couldn't understand you. Tap the Bixby logo to try again." ff782bc1db
