For some time now my downloads from BBC iPlayer on my iPad nor iPhone will not play on my tv via Apple TV. I can download to my iMac and play them on the TV that way. But it is not very convenient, the iMac is in a different room and the feature that automatically playing the next episode does not work on the iMac downloads.

For example; I downloaded a program which I started watching whilst still having an internet connection. I later closed the app and went underground, then I tried to open the app and continue to watch the downloaded program (as you can, quite rightly, do on the iphone version of the app). Instead of opening iplayer and allowing me to continue watching the downloaded program offline, the app refused to open and the download couldn't be viewed. When back above ground, and with an internet connection, the app worked perfectly again.

Downloaded 6 episodes each of a kids programme before hols onto two different hudls, also a top gear.

However if you want to play direct from the iplayer web page (without uploading onto the tablet) you now need a separate bbc app which is I media player I think. It linked it to me from the iplayer website.

Is there any way to remove DRM from BBC iPlayer downloads programs to keep BBC iPlayer videos permanently without time limitations? I have downloaded some programs off iPlayer and want to remove the DRM from iPlayer videos, is this possible? The DRM on iPlayer programs is driving me mad! It won't even let me put programs on my MP4 player which ''works with BBC iPlayer''. How can I get around this iPlayer DRM in order to save the video permanently?

 Answer:

The downside of this iplayer-dl is that it requires you to manually copy and paste the URL or ID of the video into the command line. I thought it would be handy if there was a link on the iPlayer page to download an episode through iplayer-dl.

I carried out a manual scan of my laptop with Windows 7 using your marvellous free Malwarebytes which found two files with Backdoor.bots. After quarantining them and rescanning they did not reappear. What horrified me the most was the files that they were found in; they were BBC iplayer downloads files. Should the BBC be notified that their iplayer download system is spreading malware or perhaps more to the point, should the public be made aware of the danger?

I've just upgraded from a 4s to a 5s. Previously on the 4s I could download a program on BBC Iplayer when connected to wifi and then watch it back at my leisure. Now on the 5s I can download the program in iplayer but when I go to play it it buffers for 5 minutes or so and then tells me it can't be played. If however I am on wifi it will let me play the downloaded program. What has changed betweed my upgrading between the 4s and the 5s - think there must be something I've not ticked somewhere. I have downloaded and reinstalled the Iplayer app a number of times and have tried downloading various programs but still get the same problem. I have also tried restting my network settings - again this makes no difference.

Thanks All - I've tried all these things. I am connected to wifi to download the program - as a test I then turn off my wifi signal and try to play the downloaded program - previously this always worked fine and still does work fine on my old 4s (the kids now have the 4s and they can watch downloaded programs on iplayer without a problem).

BBC iPlayer Downloads is a section of the app where your downloads are stored ready for you to watch them, even if you're offline. Access your downloads by going to the menu and selecting the 'Downloads' icon, which has an image of an arrow.

As with the iPlayer, you can download radio programmes and podcasts so you can listen to them later even without an internet connection. These can be found in the 'My sounds' section, a personalised part of the app for your downloads, subscribed programmes and bookmarks.

A BBC spokesperson told us: "An update to third-party software has meant that some people are experiencing problems downloading BBC iPlayer content to computers. We are aware of the problem and are working to fix it. Mobile and tablet downloads are not affected by the issue."

File sizes for TV show downloads are very large, and the BBC is likely concerned that mobile users could unwittingly devour their monthly data allowances quickly. For example, of the two quality options available for download, the lowest results in a one-hour programme totalling 326MB. A higher quality version of the same programme is roughly double, at 638MB.

there is no web ui for this image, you simply define the shows you want via the env var value for key "SHOWS" with a comma to seperate the list and get-iplayer then monitors and downloads any matching shows.

you dont need to putty in, all you need to do is edit the container and define the shows you want to download by setting the value for env var "SHOWS" (comma separated) get_iplayer is run for you inside the container and will search and download any shows that match the values.

Is AtomicParsley not supposed to be part of this container image? I also see that Plex has a very hard time matching any of the downloads and I guess this is why. Am I supposed to be installing AtomicParsley seperately or something?

You also use the BBC iPlayer downloads app to watch your downloaded programmes and control where they are stored. To find out where your shows are kept, open the app and click the Settings option at the top right-hand corner. Once the settings options are available, look under the Destination heading to find the location of your downloads.

The BBC iPlayer downloads app also allows you to change the destination folder if you need to. You can also quickly open the location by clicking the View in Explorer or View in Finder link.

One other thing to bear in mind is that although the BBC turns a blind eye to get_iplayer usage, it is not in any way supported and is always susceptible to unexpected changes in the way the BBC streams its content. In other words, reliability is in no way guaranteed or even expected!

Some have complained about the loss of support for Microsoft Windows Media, which allowed files to be played back on other compatible devices. Equally, there were many critics of reliance on proprietary digital rights management. Apparently, the WMV downloads accounted for less than 0.1% of requests.

I listen to BBC iPlayer downloads on my phone all the time. I've just bought an R1 speaker and want to listen either via bluetooth and/or WiFi but have no idea how to do this. I've paired the speaker and the phone, but the sound doesn't come out of the speaker. I've connected both to my WiFi but the sound doesn't come out of the speaker. A podcast that was stored on the phone did come out of the speaker, but that's not the answer. The manual doesn't give me a clue.

The new BBC iPlayer Download application simply requires a one-off installation. It will then start when you wish to download a programme through the browser version of iPlayer. A show or film will appear in the client and be ready to watch when the download has completed. You can also queue downloads and easily see which shows are available in a list with thumbnails. ff782bc1db
