Title has it, just wondering how to Blur background in Zoom calls. I don't have Zoom Pro, is that the issue? Just wondering how to fuzz out everything behind me, shouldn't seem to be that hard, but it's not in the Settings>Background & Effects>Virtual Backgrounds.

As of writing this, Zoom does not support person/face-detection based virtual background in their Linux-version software. The solution below helps achieve the similar effect, and since it creates a virtual webcam, you can most likely use this solution for any apps that use a webcam, for example, Microsoft Teams. These instructions were originally posted by @BenTheElder, and IMO is a super fun and neat project, especially if you are into computer vision. -source-virtual-background/

What the code is doing essentially is grabbing image frames with Python and OpenCV. For each image, the face/body is cropped using TensorFlow.js Bodypix, and merged with the specified background. The modified images are then used to create the video feed via pyfakewebcam and v4l2loopback. I have tested the below instructions with Ubuntu 20.04, code used is archived in -background

As others have pointed out already, virtual background without green screen is not yet supported by zoom for Linux. There is a feature request for this in the zoom developer forum. Maybe supporting it can help making this feature a priority:

Your processor is what is not meeting the system requirements. Your processor is a 2nd generation i5 processor with 2 cores. The virtual background system requirements state you must have at least a 3rd generation i5 processor with 2 cores.

Your processor is also a 2nd Generation (the 2 in i7-2600 model is the generation), so it does not meet the requirements for image without a green screen as listed. You should be able to use the virtual background with a green screen option though.

Hi @SAWeh

Your processor does not meet the system requirements for virtual background, as your processor is a 3rd generation i3, and Zoom virtual background requires a 5th generation or higher i3.

Hey @zoomuser15 it seems the 5405U is different from the i3, i5, and i7 processor names, even though your 5405U has 2 cores. I am assuming that because your processor is not an 'i' series processor series that this 5405U is not supported according to our Zoom Virtual Background system requirements.

Zoom is telling me the same thing, that my device does not support virtual backgrounds, but I have a brand new laptop and it was working fine till I just did a Microsoft update and then Zoom did an update the next time I opened the app.

This isn't right, I have been running virtual backgrounds without a green screen on my little HP Stream 11" for the past 8 months, now on my new laptop I can't run them. It's absolutely ridiculous, there is no reason at all why this has to be like this. Slight update to the program and all this issue goes away. If a 150 Notebook size laptop can do it then all of the systems I can see in this chat can. I have removed and reinstalled 4 times and Zoom still allows me to use the Blurring and Virtual Backgrounds lol

My kids play a whole range of games including Call of Duty, Cyberpunk 2077, Fortnite, Apex Legends, Rainbow 6 Seige (R6), and World of Warcraft Shadowlands, yet I cannot use a Zoom virtual background. Is the bar set too high for Zoom ?

I want to purchase a new computer just for Zoom, and I want to use a blurred background without a green screen, and I'm looking not to spend too much. I'm attaching my specs for one that I'm looking. Does this fit the specification which I would need?

So if I'm reading your comments correctly, my computer/gpu (which can run ridiculously high resolution 3D games) isn't powerful enough to run a zoom virtual background? Would you mind telling your folks to figure that out? It's crazy to have to buy a new processor/GPU so I can have a virtual background with zoom...

Hi @Franswahili

Unfortunately, the Celeron line of Intel processors all seem to be below the system requirements for virtual backgrounds. Intel processors are supported from the Intel Core i3 product line and higher.

Help. I have the same problem; says my computer does not support virtual backgrounds. Processor is AMD Ryzen 3 2200GE with Radeon Vega Graphics 3.20 GHz. I don't know a lot about computer; is that not enough?

This is insane. There are threads on this topic literally going back years and Zoom just expects us to solve the problem ourselves--a problem that Teams doesn't have, as you know. Apparently the only solution is for me to buy a new laptop just for the "privilege" of accessing all the features of Zoom. Or I can paint my walls green so I have a "green screen." Please don't refer me to the page with the system requirements--the processors for just about every laptop I've looked at either aren't on your list at all or the numbering system is different. How am I supposed to know what's equivalent? For example what the *** is an Intel Processor N200, to name just one of several I've come across that aren't on your list. Since they're not does that mean they won't work? Even if they were just introduced a few months ago? How am I supposed to know what--if anything--is equivalent? I can't believe I have to buy a new laptop, try it out and hope that it works, and then return it if it doesn't.

For your next virtual meeting, take advantage of the opportunity to seemingly be joining the meeting from anywhere by choosing a background that transports you to a professional location such as this regal wing of a Los Angeles Public Library.

As a member of the remote workforce, you have the ability to work from anywhere. Even when you are working out of your home office, a flexible workspace, or your neighborhood coffee shop you have the opportunity to exercise your creativity and choose a Zoom background that fits your #WFA state of mind.

One of the most common choices remote workers make is to utilize their local flexible workspace. To match your Zoom background to your surroundings, choose a virtual background that reflects your love for these shared spaces.

Just now catching up on the last season of Game of Thrones? To match your Zoom background to your current pop culture obsession, join your next meeting from the Iron Throne to draw eyes and command respect.

For a large Zoom meeting, a background image that is too busy or detailed runs the risk of being distracting to the other meeting attendees. When you want to stand out without attracting too much attention, a solid image background that is more than a blank black or white box hits the sweet spot.

If you want to get creative, try designing your own Zoom background image. Use a photo you've taken or check out free stock photo sites like Unsplash, Pexels, and Pixabay to find a fun Zoom background image.

Whether you want to change your background to a photo of your pet or favorite vacation destination, you'll need to crop your image so it fits Zoom's background image dimensions. Your image will need to have an aspect ratio of 16:9. Cropping your image to 1280 x 720 pixels or 1920 x 1080 pixels should work well.

A massive benefit to blurring your Zoom background is protecting personal information. If your environment has personal information such as family photos, certificates, or even personal effects, like posters or a sports flag, blurring your background is a great way to hide this.

As earlier noted, once the blurred background has been enabled, it automatically remains the default background for your future meetings. This can be undesirable if you only want to use the blurred background temporarily or for a single meeting.

Instead of blurring your physical background, you can replace it with a virtual background. You can choose from the various background images provided by Zoom or upload your images and add them as backgrounds.

The app's straightforward user interface makes it easy to set up and join Zoom meetings on any laptop or tablet. Besides ease of use, Zoom's excellent HD video and audio call quality attribute to why it's the most popular video calling software around.

What also makes Zoom stand out from similar apps like Google Meet and Microsoft Teams is its host of useful features. For example, Virtual Background lets you change your background on Zoom. You can use the existing templates or customize your backdrop with your own image or video.

If you run into any issues with changing your Zoom background, ensure that you're using uniform lighting. Also, be sure to choose a green screen color that's different from the color shirt you're wearing or your friends and coworkers will end up talking to a floating head.

Heads up: A blurred background takes a bit of time to load. Just like another virtual background. So if you switch from one Zoom meeting to another, you might get a pop-up that asks you whether you want to continue the meeting without the background or wait for the latter to load. In case the virtual or blurred background takes too long to load, just restart the meeting.

The virtual background feature allows you to display an image or video as your background during a Zoom Meeting. This feature works best with a green screen and uniform lighting, to allow Zoom to detect the difference between you and your background.

You can also upload your own images or videos as a virtual background. There are no size restrictions when adding your own virtual backgrounds, but we recommend cropping the image to match the aspect ratio of your camera before uploading it.

The Communication Office has prepared 4 Zoom virtual background templates for use. EdUHK members are welcome to use it. These 4 templates are preloaded into the Zoom app. If you cannot find it or accidentally delete it, you can download it at EdUHK Zoom Virtual Background Templates.

System RequirementsThere are some prerequisites for using Virtual Background. Below is an abstract of the requirements. For details, please visit "Using Virtual Background in Zoom meeting". e24fc04721
