A few weeks into her fourth pregnancy, Kelsey noticed some bleeding. Since women with a double uterus are at a higher risk of miscarriage, she made an appointment for her first ultrasound. After the UAB ultrasound showed the baby was doing well, Kelsey asked her to check her second uterus for good measure.

Due to the rareness of dicavitary twins, Patel and Davis had only a handful of case reports to study and use to guide a plan for delivery. In some cases, both babies were born vaginally; in others, the cervices would dilate only to a certain point, thus resulting in a double cesarian section. There were also cases where one uterus went into spontaneous labor and the other did not.

The team began the induction process and waited to see if one baby would progress further than the other. Since she had two uteri, she required twice the monitoring and charting, and was assigned two labor and delivery nurses to monitor each uterus and baby.

There was not a set blueprint on how to anticipate the birth of the second baby, so the team listened to Kelsey and Baby B for the best course of action. They continued with an induction on the left side, but Baby B was not descending as anticipated for another vaginal delivery. A little over 10 hours after her sister was born, Baby B, named Rebel, was delivered via c-section on Dec. 20 at 6:10 a.m. weighing 7 pounds 3.5 ounces.

During pregnancy, the developing babies get oxygen and food from their mother through the placentas and umbilical cords. Fraternal twins have separate placentas and umbilical cords. The technical name for this is dichorionic.

Fraternal twins can be the same or opposite sex and their genes are as different as any other brother and sister. Often, same-sex fraternal twins look different. For example, they might have different hair or eye colour. Occasionally they look quite similar.

Women who are pregnant with twins sharing a placenta need to be checked more often than women who are pregnant with twins with separate placentas. Frequent checks help to pick up any complications early.

Twins sharing an inner sac (monoamniotic) are also at a higher risk of complications during pregnancy because of the chance that their umbilical cords might tangle and cut off their blood supply. These twins are checked even more closely. Medical professionals often recommend that these twins are born at 32-34 weeks. This is earlier than other types of twins, who are generally born at 37-38 weeks.

Identical twins are more likely than fraternal twins to get the same illness. If one of a pair of identical twins is diagnosed with a particular disease or health condition, like high blood pressure, the other twin should be checked often for early symptoms.

In very rare cases, twins can be born physically joined together in different ways. These twins, called conjoined twins (previously called Siamese twins), can happen if the fertilised egg splits quite late after fertilisation.

While every pregnancy is different, most women carrying twins will havemore frequent prenatal visits than women carrying only one baby. If yourtwins are sharing one placenta, you will automatically have a more frequentmonitoring schedule.

To find the best care provider for your twins, make sure that the physicianis comfortable managing twins, including vaginal delivery of twins ratherthan only offering acesarean section(C-section) for delivery.

There are a few ways to introduce solids to your babies: purees, baby-led weaning or a combination! I will be honest in saying that we did not begin with baby-led weaning (BLW) in mind, in fact I knew little to nothing about it. We started with a combination of store-bought and homemade purees.

Before you jump into starting solids with your twins, familiarize yourself with foods that should be avoided at first. Here is a list of some of those foods, but please do your own research to learn more!

When we were starting solids with our twins the first food we gave them was organic oatmeal (gluten free) mixed with breastmilk. It seemed like the right starting point for us as we felt it was more nutrient dense compared to rice cereal. We followed the directions on the package and started with a very thin consistency and slowly worked our way up to a thicker one! The girls handled their first time eating it well; just a bit of coughing here and there, but there was nothing to worry about and they definitely enjoyed it!

I also want to mention that whenever you give your baby something that is round (tomato, grapes, berries, etc.) make sure you cut it into fourths. Those circle shapes are the perfect size to get stuck in your babies throat so be extra cautious about them! Again, always supervise your babies eating. Check out the list below for some of the foods we tried during this phase!

As twin moms, we know by now that bottle or breastfeeding twins takes a lot of time throughout the day and when you start to add meals to that already busy schedule it can feel hectic. Most of your day will be consumed with feedings of some sort and cleaning up messes, but it gets easier as your twins get older. There are some phases (like food throwing) that seem to last forever but one day it will stop. Go with the flow and enjoy the (messy) ride mama! Good luck starting solids with YOUR twins!

Welcome to my blog! I'm Christina and I'm here to share my motherhood journey with you. I have identical twin toddler girls, a baby boy and a tween step-daughter. You can expect to read a lot about twins here with some healthy living and DIY thrown in occasionally!

Okay, this is not a requirement I would usually have for a baby monitor, but this is so cool. In addition to the 18 hours of video storage/playback, the 1080p HD camera will automatically take pictures when your baby is smiling, crying, or making a big motion.

As an educator, I typically recommend that parents of twins wear one baby at a time in the first few months. This is a great way to keep one baby close, with proper positioning, while tending to the other (think changing, feeding etc.).

Our twins, Alder and Winslow, arrived early at 34 weeks and five days on Oct. 2, 2020. Despite being premature, they were born completely healthy. They spent 12 and 14 days, respectively, in the neonatal intensive care unit, and I spent a few nights in an adjacent unit recovering from my C-section.

One year since starting Trikafta, we have beautiful, smiley, squeaky infant twins. Kory and I are still in disbelief sometimes. We have babies? We have babies! 2020 simultaneously flew and crept by, full of the highest highs and lowest lows. But here we are, home with our healthy infant twins. What a year.

As twins are often born early, it's a good idea to discuss with your midwife or doctor where you should give birth. You should also talk about whether you would prefer a vaginal or caesarean birth. Your doctor or midwife will most likely advise you to give birth in a hospital because there's a higher chance of complications with a twin birth. 006ab0faaa
