Hello Fathers!

This seems like kind of a silly question to ask, but I suppose "life is today, repeated":

Is listening to audio prayers through an app like Hallow while doing daily chores or other mindless tasks an authentic form of prayer? I have conflicting feelings about it.

On the one hand, it feels like a way to cover my daily life in prayer and to sanctify these small tasks. Since they are somewhat automatic, my mind will be occupied by something, so it would be better to use these tools to focus on God. But on the other hand, it feels as though I'm giving God half my attention, especially if I listen to prayers like the Rosary instead of sitting with the beads, praying vocally, and having no distractions. This concern is magnified with prayers that I would say anyway in a given day, but instead do while folding laundry or something similar.

Todah raba a million times. This is wonderful; such a gift for I am sure many of us. Once it came to my hands I couldn't stop listening. Going to shul once a week is a slow process for learning all the prayers and melodies. This tool makes the path of learning one of light, joy and happiness. Shalom,

Thank you for the creation of such wonderful programs on CD. I have to say that these CDs (although I downloaded mine from iTunes) are the best, not to mention the clearest, form of teaching prayers that I have ever come across. For someone who was not brought up religiously and does not read nor speak Hebrew, this program has been the best teaching tool of all for me and my entire family. So, to all who may be reading this feedback and are debating whether to buy it or not, I say go ahead and do it. You will not be disappointed.

Consider this a fan letter. My sons are learning the prayers and we just found the website with your tutorial. Not only are the lessons/instructions excellent but your voice is clear and comforting. Brings back memories.

Rabbi, I can't tell you how much I enjoy listening and studying the various weekday and shabbat prayers on your website. In a very short time I have been able to learn and lead many of the prayers in my shul. I just wanted to thank you for lighting that flame in me...

As we began to prepare for our daughter's bat mitzvah at our Conservative congregation here in central New Jersey, I sat down to google an audio recording of birkat ha-mazon and some additional prayers, to assist some family members just learning these prayers. Our congregation is still developing such digital resources -- we do have a 2-CD tefillah collection, as well as a recently added zemirot CD for our hebrew school program --and eventually came across your recordings.

Please accept my gratitude and compliments for putting such a clear, instructional selection of recordings on the Web. While I had first found recordings from several outreach sources, they were neither as comprehensive as yours, nor were they consistent with modern Conservative practice. Listening to Rabbi Zimmerman's recordings will be very helpful.

Dear Rabbi Zimmerman,

I just want to thank you for the wonderful help you've given me that you don't even know about. I have been given an Aliyah at my nieces' bat mitavah this coming Saturday morning (twins) and needed to learn it again. I'm late deafened and haven't heard it in a long time.

I found your web site and though I can't hear much, your audio files are so clear and precise, I can understand enough to do a decent blessing. The pronunciation is incredible and I could follow most of it. I was terrified of getting up in front of the congregation without being able to hear, but your web site has given me the refresher I needed and the confidence to enjoy my honor.

Thank you so very much for putting this on the web where people like myself can access it as much as they need. God bless you and L'Shana Tovah.

Sincerely,

Eileen Seigel

My brother Jiri thaught me the S'hma in Birkenau telling me it would save my life -- Jiri was hanged a few days before the Russians liberated the KZ. He was 13... Listening to some of the audios of the website brought him very close to me again....

The voices on the app drove me crazy. There are only two voices to choose from for much of the prayers or meditations. I tried them both, but I could NOT get over the breathy, slow, “forced prayer voice” feel to them. You know how people do that thing where they use a totally different voice when they pray aloud? It drives me crazy. Does this make me a bad person? Probably.

Some of the pacing of the prayers was So. Slow. The first day I pulled up the Angelus to pray, I heard the first part of the prayer and then silence - when one would normally respond with the Hail Mary. I thought I was supposed to fill in the prayer myself, and so I started saying it out loud, when all of a sudden the app said “Hail Mary, Full of Grace…” It made the Angelus seem much longer than necessary. I get that Hallow is a meditative app, but the point of the Angelus is that I take a small break in the middle of my busy day to pray. The long pauses here just weren’t doing it for me.

Scheduling phone reminders for prayers on the app was not intuitive for me. It seemed like the app was forcing me to create a “family” (a group where you can schedule prayers to invite other users to) in order to schedule prayers. I was a week and a half into using Hallow when I asked a friend who was using the app for help with how to schedule prayers and set reminders in the app.

We create our life experiences through our thinking. One way to align ourselves with Spirit is through meditations. This collection of audio meditations from the Unity Prayer Ministry (Silent Unity) will help you center and balance your thoughts. Relax and take a deep breath, and enjoy!

Recordings of some Basic Prayers are given here. They are in my own voice. Since these prayers were created as a resource for children to learn, they are broken down in smaller parts, to enable them to be repeated with convenience.

The Rosary is a powerful form of meditation prayer using a set number of specific prayers. These prayers, coming directly from the Bible, ask Mary to intercede for us to Jesus. For many, praying the Rosary is a daily must. We invite you to pray the Rosary at your convenience using the information below. We even provide audio files that allow you to pray with someone and to help you learn its mysteries.
