Connecting electronic instruments such as guitar, bass, keyboard, or drum machines directly to a PA or recording system. Simply put, a DI box converts the high impedance, unbalanced output signals to low impedance, balanced output signals. By doing so, the instrument signals are now converted to the proper voltage level for the PA or recording system - which greatly reduces and/or eliminates connections which could cause tonal shifts and distortion.

Here's my problem: I set my Audio project settings as Direct Out, and make sure the tracks are pointed at the right channel (1-4). In the export settings, in the audio format subtab I also set it to direct out. I suspect there is a setting I am not getting right in the audio format options because I absolutely cannot get the clip to reimport correctly. It comes in distorted, like the gain was forced WAY up on import. More importantly, it isn't bringing all 4 tracks back in.

I am completely stumped.

There's a "direct out" setting in the project audio settings, and again in the main export menu. Once you get into the format options, that option doesn't exist. Mono, stereo LR, quadrophinic, 5.0, etc... are the only choices for Linear PCM. I've tried exporting with each of these with varying results - all bad.
