I know about the registry setting look up, but don't trust it since it's more than a little misleading (uninstalled may not remove it). And I've considered just launching a video, but an error could be caused by something other than Media Player not being installed, so it's not conclusive either.

Ideally, I'd prefer a solution which could be used from both my C++ application AND my NSIS installer. But my the C++ app is the most important, I'm willing to live with the registry hack in the installer.

So, I would suggest you check the registry under HKLM\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\ and if it exists, grab the value of the Installation Directory or Installation DirectoryLFN (default is %ProgramFiles%\Windows Media Player) and check that wmplayer.exe exists within that directory. If it does, then you will know that WMP is installed.

How do I install Windows Media Player in that same Steam bottle? Can I just edit the json and rerun the task ? I didnt want to do that without some consultation because it took me 3 hours to download the game, and i didnt want to nuke the wine bottle and have to redownload it.

Wow thanks! So, I do have the 32bit version which is the default installed. Unfortunately the cool winetricks WMP10 thing had the same error, this is only for 32bit versions of windows. However I was able to easily install WM9 thanks to you!!! And that worked!!

EDIT:I am getting this error message no matter when trying to install WMP10. I've tried to reinstall/uninstall WMP11 but still can't fix this. Is there any place in registry that can fix this? I suspect this is not directly related to WMP registry but some dependency stuff like DRM. Thanks!

Issue resolved by deleting all "wmvcore.dll" and "wmploc.dll" libraries in system drive. ref: how to remove DRM. Looks like WMP installer find cached wmcore and wmploc libraries even delete them in system32 folder. Which is making downgrade WMP so painful!

Testing build 1803 Enterprise (not the N version) now.... I found after I upgraded the Media Player was no longer installed. I had to install it via the old school Programs and Features control panel -> Turn Windows features on or off -> Media Features and select Windows Media Player. After this was done, the 7.18 VDA installed without a hitch.

We are having the exact same issue with 1803 and Win 10 Enterprise. I guarantee this isn't an "N" version. We do clean up all the Windows 10 provisioned apps before installing, however per Citrix best practices.

Joey need some advice got this other gen 3 up and running this one boots right up but need some advice the firmware version is 1.14.09 should i update it and if so to which version and should i put the wdlxtv on this unit like my gen 2 i know that there were a lot of these units with the last firmware update and people were rolling it back would like to have the best firmware with the most options for this player

Joey i also want to make sure whatever firmware i use is the official firmware so i do not run into issues like the other one

Joey just curious is there a better guide out there for installing the wdlx tv or is the wiki one the best that is out there i know that the wdlx tv forum website has been down for some time so there is no place to ask questions

Joey thank you so much got it installed tonight and up and running and everything is working perfectly i think i will play with both of them for a little bit then go back to the original firmware on both units or do you think they would sell better with the wdlxtv installed on them

I'm looking for a way to use my OMV Hardware also as Mediaplayer. Important are HD-Audio Outputs (Dolby Atmos) and i'm familiar with Kodi and also a bit with Plex. The OMV system is connected with HDMI to a HD-Audio-Receiver.

After all i installed LibeELEC as OS to get Dolby Atmos and a full media player. That worked out of the box. For all other things i've used the LibreElec / Kodi Docker-Addon. Works like a charm, does not use many resources.

My thought is that when set to automatic it cant find a valid player, maybe that is because the video format does not fit the criteria for any of the media players? or maybe its because the media players are not being properly loaded?

Ran into this issue and finally solved it by moving my MediaPlayer->OpenSource(FileMediaSource) method from the constructor to Tick, or anything in runtime. The media players must not be loaded on construction.
