Changing the default router password is the first step in securing your WiFi network from intruders. Although the process of changing the router password varies from router brands, the overall concept is the same so you can take the guidance from the following steps to get the basic idea.

During network configuration some settings may have been done improperly as a result you are unable to log in to your router settings page (Web/Blue GUI). I just installed the Nest Wifi (Gen 2) with 3 nodes. Mesh set-up seems good with "mesh connection test" reporting great connection between mesh nodes. However, how do I confirm that my devices are connecting to the mesh network and not the router, since I used the same SSID/password? The MAC Address in the connection properties for my laptop doesn't match the router OR any of the Nest nodes, nor are any of the devices manufactured by Intel. I just want to be sure my devices are connected to the Mesh system and not the router but don't know how to confirm. Please advise. Thanks!

Thank you! Wouldn't this double NAT situation always exist since the Nest connects to the modem/router via the ethernet cable? I suppose if the modem and router are separate devices and the Nest connects directly to the modem, the router is more obviously removed from the equation. Just curious if 1) I'm understanding correctly and 2) why directions don't mention this issue when you have a combined modem/router device. thanks!

Another possible solution is to set up multiple SSIDs and provide separate passwords for each one. It's not as elegant as having multiple passwords for the same SSID, but it would accomplish the same thing and would be easy to manage if your router supports multiple SSIDs.

One such router is Asus' RT line of consumer-level dual-band routers (I have the RT-AC66U) which supports up to three "Guest SSIDs" per band in addition to the main SSIDs. Each can have its own authentication and access policies. This even allows you to track usage time for each guest SSID.

Because most people aren't able to access the 5GHz band just yet, you would likely need 2 of these routers to provide enough 2.4GHz access points to do what you want for 7 people, but these routers can easily be configured as "AP-Only" mode so you can chain them together.

I would answer your question with another question...what do you hope to gain by having each user connect using a different password? The exercise seems somewhat pointless to me unless you're also hoping to attach some sort of network policies to the different credentials that you didn't mention in your original question.

If your desire to use different usernames is to be able to control access for different users without affecting other users, you might be able to use MAC address filtering instead. MAC filtering is by no means foolproof, but it would have the added benefit of preventing password sharing amongst users.

Another option is to move all of this out of the WiFi scope and further into the network. You could consider using a single WiFi password and using a captive portal upstream in the network to perform a second level of authentication. You need a RADIUS server! But today, even small home routers have enough power to allow this.I have a Asus RT-N65U and a Asus RT-N56U at my parents house with custom firmware and FreeRadius2. You do need some Linux knowledge to set it up!The router allows to set a RADIUS server in the web interface. After you set one up, you just enter localhost there!

Are you trying to change the admin password? Are they using your regular wifi or the guest wifi? If they have access to the admin pw for the wifi, you can change it by going to , clicking on Wifi Settings, entering the current admin password, and then changing the password in the box labeled "password."

If the password change isn't completing then you're going to need to use a device that's connected with an Ethernet cable to change the password of the particular WiFi band (2.4GHz or 5GHz), or be connected to the opposite band of the one you're changing the password for.

You're in the righ section in the WiFi settings. You'd want to change the password in the "Password" box for both the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz radios. Additionally, if you don't use or don't want to allow Guest access for either radio, you can uncheck the SSID Enable and SSID Broadcast boxes for each of the Guest radios (2.4GHz Guest and 5GHz Guest), and then click Save Settings.

For the password on the two regular radios, change the Password for the 2.4GHz radio, then click Save Settings, then do the same for the 5GHz radio. Just don't lose the newly created password(s), of course. Also, you can use the same password for both radios (like it is by default), or you can use a different password for each. It's up to you.

Incidentally, if you add a wifi router and this new router has not 802.11r active, it would work - and funny thing is it will work even after you remove that router (if you use same SSID and WPA2 key). But the reason behind is 802.11r disabled, not the fact you have added a router.

Not if you are using Tmobile home internet or any other service where you can not turn off the roaming feature 802.11r. I my case I just added a Wifi repeater to my network and then my printer would prompt for the wifi repeater password. Spend $20 for repeater or get a different printer.

A Solution - I don't know if this is the only or best solution but it worked for me. Go into the router, log in, and enable WPS mode on the wifi channel you want. Go to the printer and find the dialog that lets you connect wifi using WPS Pin mode. This will give you an 8 digit pin to enter into your router. This is for the Hitron - Go to the WPS section of the Wireless tab on the router and select "PIN" next to WPS Mode. This will give you a box in which to enter the PIN from the printer. On the Hitron you then select the button labeled "Start". A progress bar will appear. When it is done, you should be connected.
