A theme is a collection of specific fonts, colors, and slide layout. When any of these elements is formatted manually, that formatting overrides the theme. For example, if your presentation uses the Courier font and you manually format some of the text as Tahoma, reapplying or changing the theme will not affect the text that is formatted with the Tahoma font.

If you apply a theme and some slides don't change to theme layouts, the layouts were probably changed manually. For example, if you move a heading to a different place on the slide or change the position of a table, those items have manually formatted layouts that don't change when the theme changes.

Bear in mind that the Theme slide controls every slide in your deck! When you edit this slide, you are changing how every content slide in your presentation looks. You may have noticed that when you select a different theme in Google Slides, it rearranges the text on your slides and adds shapes to the background. This is because each theme has built-in slide layouts and background graphics. You can edit these layouts with a feature called the master template editor. Once you learn how to use the editor, you'll be able to customize your entire slide show with just a few clicks.

The master template editor in Google Slides allows you to quickly modify the slides and slide layouts in your presentation. From there, you can edit the master slide, which will affect every slide in the presentation. You can also modify individual slide layouts, which will change any slides using those layouts. Here are some common uses for the master template editor.

You can use the master template editor to modify any slide layout in your presentation. It's easy to make small tweaks like adjusting background graphics and more significant changes like rearranging or deleting placeholders. Unlike the master slide, changes to a slide layout will only be applied to slides using that layout in your presentation.

It is worth noting that in beamer the basic container is a frame. A frame is not exactly equivalent to a slide, one frame may contain more than one slides. For example, a frame with several bullet points can be set up to produce a new slide to reveal each consecutive bullet point.

In the code there's a list, declared by the \begin{itemize} \end{itemize} commands, and next to each item is a number enclosed in two special characters: < >. This will determine in which slide the element will appear, if you append a - at the end of the number, the item will be shown in that and the subsequent slides of the current frame, otherwise it will appear only in that slide. These effects can be applied to any type of text, not only to the itemize environment. There's a second command whose behaviour is similar, but it's simpler since you don't have to specify the slides where the text will be unveiled.

If you want to highlight a word or a phrase within a paragraph, the command \alert{} will change the style of the word inside the braces. The way the enclosed text will look depends on the theme you are using.

It's really easy to use a different theme in your slideshow. For example, the Madrid theme (most of the slideshows in this article use this theme) is set by adding the following command to the preamble:

To find customizable slide templates and themes, you can explore the business presentations templates or search by PowerPoint templates. Once you find a template that resonates with you, customize it by changing its color scheme, add in your own photos, and swap out the font.

Start from scratch by creating your own PowerPoint template. Follow tips for designs and business presentations so that your unique template is cohesive and relevant to your brand. Incorporate your brand's color scheme and graphics so that all your slides aren't text only.

You can get PowerPoint templates that have modern designs, animated ones, or even hand-drawn art in each slide. The color schemes range from bold to subtle. Each template's slides are also organized based on what you may want to include in your presentation. You can use the template as a starting point and customize its specific details from theme.

I added a big, ugly square to these layouts to make it easier to spot the corresponding slides in the body of the presentation. I then replaced the layout of those slides with the relevant layouts in my Theme.

Using the methods mentioned above, you can change the Google Slides theme colors to suit presentation requirements, branding needs, or presentation style.
