Dalmatian puppies are born with plain white coats and their first spots usually appear within 10 days; however, spots may be visible on their skin from birth. They continue to develop until the dog is around 18 months old. Spots usually range in size from 2 to 6 cm (1.25 to 2.5 in), and are most commonly black or liver (brown) on a white background. Liver is the recessive colour in dalmatians, meaning that both parents have to carry the liver gene to produce this colour of pups. If both parents are liver, then all puppies will be liver-spotted. Black spotted dogs always have black noses, and liver spotted dogs always have brown noses.

Horses are gregarious and feel the need for company. The dalmatians served this purpose. They would run along side the horses or under the axle of the coach and keep up with the team for as much as 20 - 30 miles per day. They would also help to clear the way for the team and keep other dogs from interfering with the horses.

Early firefighters took tremendous pride in their companies. They would turn out and parade through the city at almost any occasion. Polished brass and brilliant paint schemes and the gleaming leather were always maintained. Just as the dalmatians worked with private coaches, they worked fire companies. When dalmatians appeared with the engines, people looked just as they did with the coaches in England.

An earlier version of this article misstated the number of dalmatians that have a genetic mutation that causes uric acid disorder. It is most dalmatians, not all. In 2011 the American Kennel Club voted to recognize certain dogs without the trait as purebred dalmatians.

When horse-drawn fire engines arrived on the scene, firemen naturally chose dalmatians to assist them, since the breed was accustomed to running long distances, and to being around horses. Their bright white coats, covered with large black spots, made them a highly visible warning sign to bystanders and onlookers, as the dogs ran ahead of, and cleared the path for, fire engines racing towards a fire.

With technological advancement, horse-drawn fire engines became obsolete, and the need for dalmatians to clear the way for fire engines no longer existed. People knew better than to get in the way of motorized fire engines speeding towards them with blaring sirens!

Fortunately, firefighters did not fire the gentle dalmatian from his position in the department. Instead, they honored him, by adopting the breed as the official firehouse mascot. The tradition continues to this day, and dalmatians can still be spotted at some fire stations.

The game itself does not follow the movie's storyline. The player can choose the role of two of the dalmatians, Oddball or Domino, who are out on the town looking for treasure. It's not long before the player realizes that a toy found buried in a park was made at one of Cruella de Vil's toy factories; the fact that her toys are being buried rather than being played with is making mean Cruella very upset. Facing financial ruin from lack of sales, Cruella sets an evil plan in motion - to reprogram her toys to capture any Dalmatian puppies in sight. Soon enough, Domino and Oddball are out on their biggest adventure yet - to save their brothers and sisters. The player needs to save their brothers and sisters, collect 100 bones and stop Cruella's henchmen. Player's health can be increased by picking up food. The player fights Cruella a few times, then off to the Toy Factory where Cruella is waiting for them. The game includes several challenging levels, from the sewers to the circus. The player befriends many other characters that help them along the way. At times the player has to take a challenge to fight Cruella in certain levels as well as other enemies such as Jasper or Horace.

I loved this adorable Dalmatian costume so I bought it and had no regrets! It was perfect and I loved the little collar detail too! He wore his black crocs and was super comfortable and had zero complaints about his costume.
