Dowden Custom Woodworking is a one person woodworking business in Chapel Hill, NC. Amy has been woodworking and creating projects since 1998. In 2007 she started her own business to design and create custom pieces based on customer requirements. In 2013, she went back to full time teaching Chemistry and Engineering, so time is more limited for large projects. She loves the challenge of designing and building the perfect piece for each customer while exceeding their expectations.

Amy Dowden has a Material Science and Engineering Degree and a Secondary Science Teaching Degree from North Carolina State University. While obtaining her teaching degree, she took classes to get a minor in Technology Education. One class she took was woodworking in 1998. She immediately cherished the satisfaction that results from designing and building projects. She enjoyed woodworking as a hobby for almost ten years before starting a business in 2007. She loves the challenge of designing and building custom projects that highlight the wood’s natural beauty and character.
