Three point bending is a common test to assess bone strength in mice and other animals. To my knowledge, no automated method is widely available to process data from these tests. To address this gap and facilitate more rapid and standardized testing, I developed this code based on Jepsen et al., 2015.

SPM allows continuous analysis of the shape of smooth scalar series within regular discrete bounds based on the height and width of connected data points in the series. The output is a statistic ‘field’ (e.g. the t-statistic as a function of time) that identifies regions that differ significantly across experimental factors. This approach mitigates the errors introduced by running multiple comparisons (e.g., individually testing each time point) and the biases introduced by selecting single points or regions of continuous series for analysis (either a priori or post-hoc based on qualitative observations).
