Dove Holes Methodist Church was opened in May 1876 received numerous improvements to improve the Church over the years. Recently it started with the re-building of the outside wall adjacent to the A6 and this was followed up by tarmacking the car park, new floors downstairs, redecorating the Church upstairs, renewing the toilet and kitchen positions, new enhanced de-luxe toilet and more recently new modern kitchen. The downstairs floor has been completely renewed and a modern floor carpet fitted to suit all uses. The building has been repointed outside to stop all damp, roof repaired and re-painted outside.
The latest project that has just been completed is a revamp downstairs which has included redecorating everywhere in the main hall and Post Office area. This has been sponsored with a grant from Tarmac's Landfill Communities Fund. *
We are proud, as a Methodist Church, to boast that we have a Post Office in the smaller room downstairs. This is open on Tuesday and Thursday mornings and is a friendly operation run by our postmaster Mike. (You can always get a cup of tea and biscuit here) – Books and jigsaws on sale for a nominal 50p each.
Dove Holes Methodist Church is part of the newly developed High Peak Partnership and welcomes people of all ages to our Church and events. Varied services are held every Sunday morning at 10.45am – everyone welcome – followed by a natter and home made cake and refreshments – just turn up.
The activities that we host at our Church include:
· Home of Chapel Male Voice Choir, who practice every Monday and are always encouraging new singers both inexperienced and experienced. Look out for their concert at Dove Holes Church on September 12th at 7.30pm
· Our infamous Pancake Party, this year being held on Shrove Tuesday, February 25th at 6pm – completely free – we just ask for a small donation to our chosen local charity.
· We hold a monthly Luncheon Club on the third Wednesday of the month – good home cooked food by the Churches together group for a nominal £5 – Food second to none.
· Dove Holes Brass Band concerts
· Carol Service with Dove Holes Brass Band
· We hire the Hall for various events:
o Dove Divas monthly
o Keep fit groups
o Sewing Club monthly on Saturday mornings
o Visually Impaired Group
o Children’s Parties
The main room is ideally suitable for Christenings and private functions and parties of all kinds. The hire fees include the use of the modern well displayed kitchen and modern toilet.
We now come on to the most recent project that has just been completed. Thanks go to Tarmac for its generous funding for our painting downstairs. Without the company’s help the work would not have been possible.
*The Tarmac Landfill Communities Fund (or Landfill Tax Credit Scheme as it was formerly known) enables landfill operators like Tarmac, to donate part of their annual tax liability to enrolled Environmental Bodies for a variety of approved community and environmental projects. Landfill operators can reclaim 90% of their contribution as a tax credit which means the remaining 10% must be provided either by them or an independent third party. Through the fund, which is administered on Tarmac's behalf by Derbyshire Environmental Trust, Tarmac donates around £1 million each year to community projects throughout the UK. The fund is open to applicants who meet the strict criteria for projects delivering community benefit. For more information please go to www.entrust.org.uk
