I received my first Etch A Sketch when I was 2 years old, promptly broke it, and cried until my parents got me a new one. I have been drawing all my life since that time. The subjects of my art are widely varied and it has never mattered where I am, I will draw almost anywhere.
The initial satisfaction of positive reactions fueled my desire to continue drawing. The ability to produce something that provided enjoyment to others has always been a great motivation in my work and something I always strive to achieve. A portion of my artistic education came from family friends who were artists. They taught me perspective and vanishing points, structure and form. My passion moved from a desire for appreciation from others to a desire to excel at artistic expression, especially in the form of realism.
I felt I found my calling in life when a friend gave me my first comic book. I drew Superman, Batman and Spider-man and any other comic book superhero I could find. I spent hours meticulously copying the comic book covers and decided that I wanted to draw for the rest of my life.
I attended the San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts where I received instruction in new techniques, styles and artists. I won the award for “Best Male Artist” in my grade every year. By the time I started college, I was anxious to continue growing as an artist and to expand my knowledge of artistic expression. I gained enthusiasm about not only the final product, but also the process of creation. At the time I graduated from college, computer art began to permeate all areas of artistic expression. I was excited to expand my abilities by including digital mediums into my portfolio. I believe my training in illustration provided strength in my digital work.
I continue to love creating art no matter the medium and feel satisfaction in a job well done. I believe the principles of design and artistic techniques are valuable, whether the work is a piece of fine art or a corporate website, and I remain dedicated to providing quality work.
