You're an artist, so you know how difficult it can be to give up your favourite things. A list of things that successful artists from the bfa course in chennai gave up in order to make their art is provided for inspiration! It might not hurt as much if we already have permission from our artistic heroes and heroines who did the same thing before us.
Let Go Of The "not Enough" Mindset:
Be confident in your abilities and never give up. Successful artists don't think about things like "not enough." There is never enough time, money, confidence or whatever it is that you need at the time to make or do what you need to be a successful artist.
Don't Give Comparisons:
Comparisons are negative. They only make you feel like a failure if they're not in your favour, and feeling frustrated is no way to live life! You will never be the best at everything (unless you want to take up Olympic-level competitions), so focus on what's good about yourself instead of pointing out all that could go wrong or doesn't work for someone else.
Don't Give Excuses Any Longer:
"You must show up if you want to be a successful artist. You must put in the work. After all, there are no shortcuts when it comes down to being great at anything worth doing; It takes hard work and dedication on your part as well as from those around who support what you do.
Give Working All Of The Time:
We all know how hard it can be to get out of bed in the morning and go to work. But even if you don't want to do your job, you must show up at the studio or office every day so that they think we're working.
But sometimes our bodies need a break from their routine- giving them time for physical care like sleep and food will help keep us healthy as well as mentally sound!
Don't give advice from people who aren't well-informed.
Some people give advice they're not well-informed about. But you have the ability to choose who you listen to and what kind of advice that is, so spend it with those who motivate you as an artist while also inspiring your creativity!
Give Up Striving For Perfection:
Achieving perfectionism is a fallacy. The reality of our imperfect world will never allow for such an achievement, and what's more, it paralyzes us from ever sharing our work with others to see the journey we've gone through in order to get where we are today.
Give Up Feeling Self-centred:
It's easy to get caught up in feeling as if you're the most important person on Earth. But that couldn't be farther from the truth; there are a million ways we all make our mark, like doctors and lawyers or artists and craftspeople who can bring out colours and creativity into people's lives.
Give Yourself To Be Free Of The Want For Praise:
Sometimes you may wish for universal acclaim, but it most likely won't happen. In fact, that's actually preferable because your work would be liked by everyone if they knew how to appreciate it or are on the same subject as you.
Don't Give In To The Myth Of The Dispersed, Genius Artist.
The myth that artists are all geniuses who work in complete isolation is false.
Successful artists know they need to be organized, and this helps them reduce stress while also portraying themselves professionally. Without a system in place, it's easy for an artist to accidentally sell the same piece twice!
