Our research focuses on understanding the basic molecular mechanisms controlling cell fate and apoptosis. An important goal of our project is to identify gene and protein regulatory networks controlling immune cell fate and apoptosis, with special emphasis on myeloid cell populations (monocytes, macrophages and myeloid derived suppressor cells). We study how dietary phytochemicals regulate the immune function controlling chronic inflammation in the context of cancer, bacterial infection and obesity. Our studies contribute to identifying targetable molecules that control apoptosis, rewire metabolic function and reeducate immune cells. Our research contributes to the development of effective preventive and therapeutic strategies to control chronic inflammatory diseases.
