Welles is a 2023-2025 co-VP of Sisters in Crime NY (NY Tri-State SinC), a member of Crime Writers of Color (CWoC), and (as J. Szathmari) serves on the Board of Control for the Arts Students League of New York. Her writing is informed by her training in theatre, urban planning, education and her skeptical nature.
