Cats Hate Water

Once, there was a naive, grey long-haired tabby cat named Logan. Logan was known for jumping into things without thinking. The other cats often found amusement from his shenanigans. Logan was exhausted after a long day of running around, and fell asleep on top of a small windowsill. This windowsill was overlooking a street lined with cute, little picturesque houses with white picket fences in a nice little row. Each house had well manicured lawns, with beautiful flower gardens that were full of color. It seemed to be a nice warm afternoon, although the skies were a bit grey. Logan was stretched out across the whole windowsill and was contentedly dreaming. The dreams were pleasant until it suddently turned into a terrible nightmare. The dream seemed like real life. It was also a nice cloudy afternoon until a torrential downpour started, and started flooding his neighborhood, and possibly even the world. He could feel the water coating his fur. Suddenly, he was startled awake by the feel of a drop of water actually landing on his fur. He immediately thought his dream was coming true, and the world was definitely flooding. Without any pause to see where it came from, he took off running down the street as fast as he could run. His younger brother Severus saw him and shouted at Logan "Yo, what's up?" as he saw Logan run by.

"The world is flooding!" Logan yelled back.

"Oh snap!" exclaimed Severus frightfully. Since he is also a cat who hates water he took off following Logan down the street. After that, Myrtle asked the same question and them joined them. Then, Sophia followed suit. After that, Otter joined them. It continued until they had a whole pack. They kept running until they made it to Trouble.

Trouble was the neighborhood 'Old Man' Cat. He'd been around the block a time or two, and knew these young cats often easily overreacted. He made them stop and asked them, "What in the world is going on?!"

"The world is flooding!" yelled several of the cats, in unison, back to him.

"Oh goodness. Surely not. Who saw this start?" he asked as he started eyeballing each cat, one by one.

"Not I!" "Not me!" "I think it was him" "No it wasn't me" echoed all around in a loud chorus.

Finally Logan stepped forward. "It was me!" he said worriedly.

"I see! What proof do you have?" Trouble stared intently at Logan.

Logan started shifting his eyes around to everyone but Trouble."Well, see I was asleep in this windowsill, having a perfectly good dream, and then all of a sudden I felt water on me, and I knew the world is flooding!”

"Did you look to see the source?" Trouble said as he rolled his eyes.

"Well, no, I took off running to be safe. What cat wants to stay to check out the source for water?" Logan answered sarcastically.

Trouble let out a HUGE sigh. “Alright, let's go have a look. Show me where you were."

"Alright," Logan agreed reluctantly. He really didn’t want to go back to where the danger is. They started walking back to the house Logan was napping at earlier.

Once they got there, Trouble immediately could see a hole in the gutter and saw a steady drip of water coming from it. Drip, drip, drip, it went right into the spot where Logan said he was lying.

"Do you see this?" Trouble asked Logan, referring to the gutter.

"Yes," Logan admitted sheepishly. He knew he made a mistake, and they needed to go back and tell the others. Though, the others probably would not be too surprised. But cats hate water, so any chance was enough for them to follow Logan. It's better to be safe than sorry. Thank goodness Trouble was wise enough to take the time to check the source and learn the truth. The others will definitely be relieved.

Author's note:

I used the Foolish, Timid Rabbit and changed the story to use my cats and their hatred of water on a very similar story line. It starts with a nightmare, followed by the Rabbit waking up thinking it was actually occurring. The Rabbit runs away from the source, with other animals joining him. Eventually they run into the Lion who helps show the Rabbit and the others the truth. I followed the main plot, but of course had a bit of deviation. Obviously, instead of a Rabbit, and other animals, I chose to use all Cats. My son and I both like cats, and I thought it would be an entertaining twist. Plus the fact that I have six made it easy to come up with names and set the scene. All cats mentioned are my actual pets, and I tried to stick with their real personalities. I hope my dogs don’t get too offended, but since they were only three they wouldn’t work. Maybe in another story.

The image I chose, of course, was a cat to help with visualization of the story. It could very much be Logan asleep on the windowsill. Of course, in real life Logan is a dark grey, long-haired tabby, but that’s besides the point. Actually, I don’t have a cat that looks like that. Maybe I should contemplate getting number seven, but my family may kill me.

Back to the story, I hoped in making the changes I did, that it would entertain readers. It would be fun to read and they can see the moral of the story: Don’t assume. Always check more in depth. I mean, I guess this is where I can put the old adage about assuming… “Don’t assume because it makes an (other word for Donkey) out of U and Me.
